The title feels misleading and used to attract Christian families, but Christian values are not reflected in practice. Students who do not maintain a 4.0 are discouraged rather than supported. The school also claimed it would become accredited, which never happened.

They do so many creative projects and activities, and the approach to reading and math is much more hands on and intuitive than the worksheets he experienced in his kindergarten. There was a nice path around the school for walking. The only reason why they didn't get five stars, is because I know nothing about the school itself or the teachers . There were some nice big houses close by, so I would venture to guess that they have the budget to hire good teachers. That to me is the Crux of educational problem in this country people. My son attended the Little Scholars Academy pre-school on SW Dakota St for a year and a half, and…read morewhile the teachers were nice, there's a lot of turnover because they are underpaid (when minimum wage went up, the monthly tuition increased to make up for it- i.e. teachers are paid minimum wage), and because of this I'm not sure that the "extensive training" the website touts is accurate. (In 16 months, he had 6 teachers). A red flag was when my son had a speech delay and I was getting him support services through the county, they would not allow support to visit his school or meet with his teachers. I'm pretty sure that is illegal. They were not concerned about helping my son catch up to his peers. My son is a pretty easy tempered kid, and I often felt like because of this and his delays they didn't try to engage him very much. (Though he did have one or two fantastic teachers who did-.) Additionally, while management is friendly, their back office staff is extremely unprofessional. There was a miscommunication regarding last days and fees which I'd left a message for the manager to call me to clarify, but I instead received a nasty email from the girl from accounting (who suddenly put "Legal Dept." in her title, for the first time ever) threatening me with a law suit instead, completely out of proportion to the situation. Shady business practice, fraudulent too. I wouldn't wish this BS on anyone.

Our group has meetings in the band room of the oldest part of the main school. Staff is great. Super cool, they have adult-size chairs and tables for meetings! My discovery was that an over 110 year old school building is perfectly excellent! I have had arguments with parent friends over the primacy of green schools and fancy new construction. My primacy is involved parents over everything, by a mile. The cleanliness, spirit of student work posted everywhere, the humbleness and economy of instruments, sheet music and more, demonstrates concretely what is really important for kids. Parents. Ainsworth School and any Portland school is a perfect venue to engage for meetings and to draw together all neighbors to do something in the neighborhood.

To truly understand the impact Portland Christian has had in improving every aspect of our child's life you would've needed to know our history in the public school system. As the new kid the other students were welcoming. She had no problem making friends. She's had no issues being bullied. Their staff takes all issues serious. They don't let situations build up before intervening. I've never felt I was being bothersome when requesting things or asking questions. My child feels emotionally supported when having a down day. She's not trying to stay home anymore. She's trying new sports to be part of the team. She's the courageous confident kid she was before the pandemic. It's a true testament as to the dedication of the PCS staff and community. It's hard to find words to describe our gratitude.
