I did want warn parents about the contracts. These are not yearly nor month to month, but the duration of the program (Black Belt & Master's) which would mean multiple years. Standard cancellation is 25% of the remainder of the contract. They are financially holding parent's responsible based on a commitment their child will make on pursuing a Black Belt or Masters Program. As we all know, children tend to change courses and want to try things over time, but be mindful of the potential cancellation charge you'll face should your child want to do something different. While we are glad they were able to work out a somewhat more reasonable cancellation charge, the contracts with this instituion are very one-sided and not favorable to parents at all.

My Experience with MKMA: What Parents Should Know Before Signing…read more I want to share my experience with MKMA because I think parents deserve to understand exactly what they may be committing to before enrolling their children in the Black Belt Program. First, I want to be fair: MKMA is a good Taekwondo school. The instructors are wonderful with children, the classes are engaging, and my kids genuinely enjoyed their time there. I have no complaints about the quality of instruction or the experience my children had while attending. My concern is with the length and structure of the contract and how difficult it can be to leave once your family's circumstances change. When I enrolled my two children, I did not fully understand the extent of the financial and time commitment I was making. The Black Belt Program involves a 60-month contract, a five-year financial commitment. Looking back, I wish I had slowed down and asked many more questions before signing. Five years is a very long time when you're talking about young children. Kids change their minds. Their interests change. They discover new activities they want to try. Family schedules change. Financial situations change. What works for a family today may not work a year or even a few months from now. In our case, both things happened. My children's interests changed and they wanted to pursue other activities. Taekwondo is also a significant time commitment for a family, and eventually it became difficult for us to continue. At the same time, my financial circumstances changed, and the nearly $600 monthly tuition was no longer sustainable for my family. When I reached the point where I needed to stop lessons, I discovered just how difficult and expensive it could be to leave the program. The standard early termination amount presented to me was $6,863.50. After explaining my circumstances and communicating with MKMA, they reduced the amount to $3,885. Here's another detail that I think prospective parents should know: I was required to pay that $3,885 settlement in cash at their Plano location. Paying in cash was not my choice or my preference. It was the requirement given to me in order for the cancellation to be finalized. I was not offered the option of paying the settlement by credit card or electronically. As a single parent living paycheck to paycheck, coming up with nearly $4,000 in cash was an enormous financial burden. I ultimately paid it because I wanted to resolve the situation and move forward. I want to be clear that this review is not about the quality of the Taekwondo program. My children had positive experiences, and I think the instructors do a great job. My concern is that a five-year contract for a children's extracurricular activity is a significant commitment, and I don't think every parent will fully appreciate what that means when they're sitting down to enroll their child. If you're considering MKMA, my advice is to ask a lot of questions before signing: * How many months am I financially committed? * What happens if my child decides they no longer want to participate? * What happens if my family's financial situation changes? * What happens if our schedule no longer allows us to participate? * Exactly how much will I owe if I need to cancel early? * What documentation is required to cancel? * How must an early termination settlement be paid? * Is there any way to cancel without paying the full early termination amount? Do not assume that stopping classes means stopping payments. Read every page of the contract. Ask questions. Make sure you understand the financial commitment, not just the monthly tuition, before you sign. I wish I had done that. My hope in sharing this isn't to discourage families from trying Taekwondo or from considering MKMA. It's simply to make sure another parent doesn't find themselves in the same situation without realizing what they've signed up for. The classes may be a great fit for your child. Just make absolutely sure the contract is a great fit for your family, too.

I help tie their belts, show them their forms, and cheer them on during testing. I remember when I was like them, looking up to the black belts. took me a while to finally write a review! read this for a genuine review from a former decade long…read moremember here. i was with the white tiger family for a very long time, went from white belt to a 2nd dan black belt here and then went off to do tkd at the collegiate level afterwards. i think the best part of white tiger overall for me has always been the people there. just such caring instructors and staff and some of my best friends (even to this day), have been made on the mat. also, some of the most fun trips i've ever done have come out of taekwondo too, from new york, austin, seattle, and miami to the kukkiwon headquarters in korea. so many experiences come from the tournaments and detours you'll take as a tkd athlete in life. in general, white tiger has always excelled in teaching poomsae (tkd forms) as well as in tkd demonstration. it's also a very well connected school in terms of the broader network of tkd schools and masters. as such, there's lots of opportunities to participate in fun tournaments and events and really level up your skills. i genuinely think it's worth it for anyone interested to give it a shot and, who knows, it might just become one of the most memorable things you do in your life. just like it was for me! :)
