Joining Mezger Martial Arts has been one the smartest choices I made. I joined the 6 week challenge and let me say that I actually seen quick results that I for sure would have not seen if I would of stuck with my LA fitness membership. Audrey and Guy do this for a living and you can see the passion they have in transforming people. I started with a weight of 198 and lost 17lbs. Drop a body fat percentage of 6.7! And by the last day left with a 3.8 muscle gain!! Would definitely recommend not only because you meet cool people and see results but you will learn self defense and how to have more self-control. Here we are, the day after my 6-week challenge, 30lbs lighter than when I came in. Super grateful for this challenge. My background is full of sports/team training with coaches. After I graduated, all of the workouts stopped, but I brought my bad eating habits with me and over a span of 9 years later, I was shy 12lbs of 300lbs. I'm 6'2" and 27 years old. Definitely shouldn't have been that large. About to take this plan, along with a new membership at Mezger, and keep it going until I lose another 30lbs to get to my goal weight. I don't have enough great things to say about this gym! First of all they are super flexible when it comes to classes , they start as early as 6am and all the way to 7:30pm which is perfect for a busy professional. Also, the instructors are some of the most knowledgeable in their trade and are very helpful and patient in helping you reach your goals and encouraging for someone who has never done martial arts or boxing. The group classes are amazing but they also make sure to give you a little one on one time. I highly highly recommend this gym whether you are a beginner or a professional fighter. This is a long, detailed, but hopefully helpful in depth review so just in case TL/DR: Great attitude Variety of classes Reasonable pricing Huge facility that most importantly is CLEAN CLEAN CLEAAAAAAAAAN! One of the best if not THE best gyms I have ever trained at! No matter if you are new to martial arts and fitness or a seasoned vet this gym is one of the best places to find coaches and training partners that will push you to your limits and achieve your goals. I really cannot say enough about the wonderful staff and coaches at the gym and the tight knit family environment that I think will really surprise people with preconceived notions of what the atmosphere of a MMA gym or martial arts school might be like. As a lifelong martial artist who has had the good fortune of training and learning with some of the best in the world, Guy Mezger's gym is top notch. In fact when I used to live in the area many of my most cherished moments training came through the opportunities training at this gym. Him and his coaches have a wealth of knowledge to teach and most importantly are just good people who will inspire and motivate you to be your best. Plus you never know who will walk through the doors for a training session or for a seminar. At least while I was there legends like Alistair Overeem and even rivals Royce Gracie showed up for seminars. Plus there are a multitude of classes including boxing, variety of grappling (BJJ, Wrestling, Sambo, Judo) muay thai/kickboxing, and even a more traditional martial arts program. Really there is something for everyone of any skill level and age. Not to mention that at least when I was there it was one flat reasonable fee that allowed you access to all of these with the exception of certain skill level classes that were based on your experience, i.e. sparring, competition teams, etc. However this is for the safety of the members so someone new or perhaps not quite at a recommended skill level doesn't get thrown to the lions the first day. However the best part of this gym to me really is the attitude. There is a no nonsense attitude that is infectious in all the right ways. People are there to work with a mindset of iron sharpens iron but never in an intimating or arrogant way. People truly earn their respect here and it shows through the values. Coaches and partners are there to push you and the way they build you up is one of the best examples of the importance of martial arts. During my years there I saw many people lose weight, achieve goals, win, and grow as better people. There is always ACTIVITY at the gym which I think is highly important. As a member it motivates me to work harder and inspires others to do the same. The more activity you see means that people are thriving and it's alive. A gym, and more importantly a martial arts school without activity to me means the school has become complacent. NOT THE CASE HERE. Plus as a self proclaimed martial arts nerd I still get a kick hearing Guy spin a yarn or two about his days in Pancrase, UFC, Pride and so forth. Lastly in this long review I really want to mention the upkeep of the facility itself. IT'S HUGE even for TEXAS sized standards and most importantly CLEAN. You get a decent amount for your money; lots of mat space, plenty of heavy bags, a weights area, Ring/cage, and my favorite CLEAN BATHROOMS. I cannot stress enough how important this is. A dirty gym says a lot about the value and standards the coaches and staff have not only for themselves, their clients but also what they are teaching so I really respect that the gym has really high standards to keep the facility well maintained for the members. ESPECIALLY since anyone who has trained knows the high risk that ringworm, MRSA, Staph, etc. can be in training not to mention the general grossness of nasty mats or stinky gym environments. This gym does not have that problem which I for one greatly appreciate. Less sick I am means more time for me to train. I highly recommend this gym, miss training there, and hope other people can benefit like I did from such a great place! read more

This gym is awesome! The facilities are basically new and all the equipment and restrooms are clean. They have a great variety of classes...Personally, I am there for a good workout but there are a lot of professional fighters who attend some of the advanced classes. All the instructors are great; they know when to push for more and when to back off. I LOVE the boxing classes- David is awesome. I also like Guy's Tuesday classes; they are technique focused classes and he uses his fight stories as examples! After the first month of taking evening classes, I had lost visible weight and toned up! I did take Guy's advice about diet and exercise to heart though, which I think most people find difficult to be disciplined about. I am okay with the membership costs because I am factoring in that I can get my nutritional coaching from Guy, the gym facilities are available to me all the time, and I can take whichever classes I want to (instead of paying some flat rate for just one type of class). The trainers there are always eager to give you training tips and fitness advice which you would have to pay any other trainer for. Their advice comes from years of experience an not some fresh outta PT school kid. The gym provides a good mix health and fitness professionals and I can honestly say I am seeing great results from it. read more

Not sure why my original review got filtered, but this is my favorite overall gym. It's got everything here, from mixed martial arts, kickboxing, BJJ, wrestling, boxing, weights, and nice shower facilities. they've even got a nice caged ring to spar in! All the instructors are top notch and very personable. Guy is usually there himself. I see him teaching several of the classes each week. The prices here are very reasonable. In fact, it's one of the cheapest I've found for martial arts. When you factor in the experience and pedigree of the trainers, it's one heck of a deal. The equipment is great. Plenty of heavy bags, mat space, and athletes to train with. Seen quite a few professional fighters come through. read more

I found Guy's studio after trying to get out of a fitness rut. Run 5 miles, spin class, lather, rinse, repeat was getting very old. I found the studio both on Google and Yelp. I heard excellent things. I have to admit that I was intimidated as they come. However, kickboxing was very approachable. I paid $10 for a 10 day pass. Being one of three girls in a class of about thirty, I was immediately placed with a brown belt. They are serious here. You do about 15 minutes of conditioning (jump rope, sit up, push ups) and the partner up. That's the fun stuff- punches, kicks, and combos. I was pretty weak and my partners were always cool with that. I attended classes taught by Audrey. She was a butt kicker. She follows you around making sure you're kicking and hitting to your true potential. She is also hell on your abs. I'll never look at a medicine ball the same way. This is a very serious training studio and people who attend are devoted. Most are trying to be UFC fighters and this is the place to follow that dream. I enjoyed the classes, they mixed it up for me, and kicked my butt. However, as much as I liked it, I couldn't justify the 6 months at a $110 month contract. Try it though if you ever wanna kick up your routine. It's good motivation. read more

Thanks to a yelp once again once i seen this i went out that weekend to see what it was all about. Talked with the front desk lady for a good 10 mins or more about the gym,classes and mma. They offered me a week pass and signed up the boxing classes were great. After my week i didn't sign up for the 6 months only because i don't like monthly payments so i'm saving up to make a paid in full payment. I heard about Mezger Martial Arts through the 6 week challenge program! After the challenge, I found that this was a place I could easily keep coming to. They successfully guide you in nutrition, which is more then half the battle! The workouts will not only take you the extra mile, but they will teach you technique and skill. Called about a class on Sunday, thats on the schedule on their website for 1-2 pm to see if i needed sparring gear. Lady answered pretty rudely and bluntly with a attitude, not what i expected from whats supposed to be a top notch gym, called back a second time to see if any other classes were happening and she said no so i politely said ok thank you and she hung up before i could finish. Ive been before to this gym one time using group on but not sure if ill return which is sad because the kickboxing class was pretty great but professionalism to some customers goes a long way. read more

The kids program actually teaches peewees - not like some programs that just have them run around like chickens with their heads cut off. The trainers inspire and work you over every class. Workouts vary so you're never bored. My boyfriend and I have lost over 40 lbs. and kept it off. No complicated/penalized contract, and there are tons of classes from 6 in the morning to night. An excellent martial arts gym. I have trained there for around 2 years when I lived in Dallas, and their boxing and kick boxing classes are kick ass! The instructors (all of them) are very good, and their training methods vary, so its something different with each. You will improve, get fit for sure and lose pounds. The gym is very clean, well organized and gives an excellent environment to work hard. Guy himself teaches classes and he has a no nonsense attitude but is very personable and approachable. The other instructors are very friendly, and often make the class real fun. They push you and make you work further than you would think possible. Once you are ready, you can up your level and do more like sparring with people who actually compete. Overall great place for boxing/kickboxing. Might be a bit pricey for some, but its worth it if you can afford it. Never found a gym close to this kind of professionalism in Austin. read more
