Easy access from the tollway from direction and easy to get back to the toll road after thanks to the excellent signage. I stopped by the Beckley Travel Plaza on my journey to my parents. I needed to use the restroom and grab lunch. First stop, restroom. There were lots of stalls and it was clean and smelled fresh. There was an ATM machine in the hallway outside the restroom. There were several restaurants including Popeyes and Wendy's as well as Starbucks. I ordered a single with cheese at Wendy's. There were several people waiting so I checked out the Mountain State Market to look for some Marshall University items. The store sold huge popcorn containers as well as several different sauces and preserves. There were West Virginia t-shirts and other items like mugs. They also had and over the counter drug section. My single with cheese was ready in about 7-8 minutes. Then I was back on the road again. I would stop here again as I liked the various options and the wait wasn't bad considering how busy it was. read more

Renovated about two years ago, it's a nice stop for clean restrooms, food, gifts and more. Prices at the eateries seem a few dollars higher than what you'd typically pay and the wait can be pretty long... maybe it depends on the time of day. It's a new, attractive, and very clean travel plaza, though not a truck stop. The showers have been removed. The food options are Popeyes, Wendy's, and Starbucks, which I find somewhat limited. Prices for food and beverages are high, and the restaurants close in the evening, leaving only the restrooms open. The building's design is awkward; upon entering, one is immediately in a small store. The quick-serve restaurant lines are to the right, requiring one to navigate around them to reach the gift shop in the back. This design is particularly inconvenient during busy periods. read more

Very nice travel plaza about 30 miles south of Charleston WVA. The surrounding town of Beckley offers a multitude of food and other choices, but the travel plaza keeps you within shouting distance of the interstate and offers enough food and gas for a great pit stop. Nice clean bathrooms too. This plaza is a relatively new as it appears to be one of WVADOTs largest and most spacious. Food items included Chic-fil-A, Starbucks, Wendy's, and the like. Lots of seating to enjoy the food. Unless you're going to Charleston, this plaza makes a great stop and avoids the city. Recommended. read more

Crowded. Parking is tight - especially pickups or larger. If you have a camper (even a small one) don't attempt to gas up and consider skipping this stop. If you do pull in, park at the outskirts and walk. Driveways are tight. Gas station is hard/awkward to access. Bathroom hygiene basket overflowing. Out of toilet paper. Half of the restrooms closed off. Long lines everywhere. Whoever designed this should be sued. We will be going up the hill to Tamarack from here on out. read more

The travel center and little shops on either end are great! The bathrooms were clean and service ppl are very friendly. Being national truckers we wish they had showers available here. You would think with how massive this place is they could squeeze a few in to purchase. With that being said, Starbucks was closed when we arrived at 6pm even though online it says 9pm. Popeyes just ignores you when you're standing at the counter to order (3rd time now). Wendy's was pretty much our only choice yet again. Food wasn't too bad and service was friendly. read more

Warning - if you are pulling an RV do not pull into the gas pumps.There is literally no way to exit from any of the pumps except the very last outside one. Even that one takes some maneuvering. It was definitely not designed to accommodate gas rigs pulling RV's. You can park on the truck side and access the services . read more

Whoever designed the traffic patterns around the plaza and auto gas pumps did a horrible job! The signage is nonexistent to utterly moronic and makes zero sense. People are lost driving up wrong ways etc. the inside of the plaza is far to small and also is set up for maximum traffic jans of people. Lastly, all the stuff for sale is overpriced and cheap as hell. The older plaza was far better and nicer. It feels like you added more crap and made the bucket even smaller !!! I stupidly forgot my wallet in the women's bathroom with my ID, cash, credit cards and drive off. 20 minutes later when I re what I had done, turned around and drove back, sick and worried. This place looks cool from the outside, but is a miserable excuse for a useful travel stop. DO NOT STOP HERE IF YOU ARE ON A TIMELINE. This is a very bad attempt at a Buck-ee's-type travel stop. I pulled in around 12:30pm on a Sunday, and it took a total of 25 minutes to get gas, use the restroom, and grab a pre-made sandwich. Gas was about $0.10 more expensive than down the road. I picked up a mediocre turkey & cheddar sandwich that rung me about $12- they did not have any mustard or mayo available for the sandwich either. I would have gone to one of the fast food restaurant, however, the lines looked to be 25-30mins long. read more

All remodeled but not made for people traveling with gas (not diesel) RVs, or towing a camper. The gas pumps are tight to get in and out of and sharp turns to maneuver in and out of. Don't even think of gassing up and then parking to go into the travel plaza. No ability to maneuver into an area to park. If you can find a pump to squeeze into, plan on gas & go. This has been our stop every year for years. Not ever again. Poor design without the RV/camper community in mind at all. Saw someone towing a boat with the same issue. read more

I've randomly stopped at this travel plaza a number of times at this point. It's close to the middle point between Columbus, Ohio and Charlotte, NC and I tend to visit friends in NC from time to time. It's really easy to access from the interstate, there's a giant parking lot out front, and even outside seating to enjoy your food before heading back on the road. Once inside you'll find a Starbucks, a small convenient store, restrooms, and several food options. It's kept pretty clean and while I've only ordered from the Starbucks, the service was fast and friendly. They also have a lot of travel information and literature available if you happen to be staying in the area. If you're on the road and in need of a pit stop, don't hesitate to swing through the Beckley Travel Plaza. They'll have pretty much anything you might need to keep your road trip moving and grooving. Pro tip - If you have extra time take the one minute drive across the street to the Tamerack for local goods. read more

The old travel plaza was great. The new one sucks ass. Horrible place. A complete waste of WV taxpayer money, IMO. It's design is ridiculous, it got rid of Sbarros and Burger King to put in a Popeyes and Wendy's. Both suck in food quality, price and service. A 5 piece chicken tenders at Popeye's, ALONE, not as a combo, is $15.00 plus tax. A regular, medium sized coffee from the store is $4.50!! Starbucks is almost cheaper and far better quality, something I never thought I'd ever hear myself say. They tripled the price on everything in the travel plaza I'm guessing to quickly recoup the construction costs of this hideous, consumer ass r**ing sh**hole. Update on 8/1/20: The rest of the restaurants and shops were open, so that was nice. Face masks required. Still wasn't very clean, though it was extremely busy! Only the Burger King & little mart were open (7/8/20). Bathrooms were not clean with toilet paper all over the floors. They should put on the road signs which of the restaurants are closed... most people in there were NOT happy campers to find out they were all closed. Most people wearing masks though! It's ok during the pandemic. I'm just skeeved out by peoples sketchy Covid procedures. Incorrect mask usage is pointless. Need more sanitizer units. Prepandemic, I actually liked stopping here. Needed a place to catch some shut eye after all day driving. This plaza had plenty of parking and the Burger King stays open 24hrs if you need some food. Wish they would put up water fountains and a water bottle filling station. It was very strange that a plaza of this size didn't have them. Not a bad stop on a long trip. There are plenty of stalls in the restroom. There was a huge floor fan blowing in both restrooms. I couldn't tell if it was for a spill or circulation. No sign of unusual activity in the parking area as noted by another reviewer but I was traveling with family. No mask requirement at the time of my visit in June but several people were being courteous and wearing masks. Overall, a decent stop to fuel up and take a break. read more

Our favorite rest area on the way up to PA! It's big and plenty of space to park (sometimes we even stop for a rest "sleep" break. The police patrol so there is the added level of security. The restrooms are always clean and well stocked. There are plenty of food options and even some fun trinkets. Be aware of your surroundings. I pulled in around 900 am on August 9, 2019 because it has such a great, family friendly atmosphere for a stop with my son on my drive from OH to SC. As I pulled in, my son told me a man was chasing a lady with a baby through the parking lot. I kept telling him I'm sure that's wasn't happening. He was adamant she was running from him. I thought he misunderstood something and said it was probably a daddy running to catch up with family. We went in the plaza to use the restrooms. A short time later we left the travel plaza to get back in our car. My son got in the car. I dug around in the back of the suv for awhile and finally went to get in the driver's seat. I barely was in the car and before I could shut the door a man was standing in the door of the driver's side. I have no idea where he came from. He talked about also being from the Carolinas like me, had car trouble etc. He didn't ask for money at all but I was getting worried I wouldn't be able to shut the door. I got a bad vibe. I tried to move fast and slam my door and lock it in one move. As soon as I did, he took off through the lot in the direction of the travel plaza. As I pulled out, my nine year old nonchalantly said, that's the man who was chasing the lady with the baby. I had forgotten about his mentioning the incident prior. I looked to see where he went. He was now heading back across the parking lot staring. I looked at where he was staring. He was heading straight for a woman leaning against the driver side door of her black Jeep parked off by herself. She was talking on a cell phone. I drove straight to her and he and I made eye contact as I approached. As I pulled up and warned her about him, he turned and walked away and started messing with his cell phone with his back to her. I sat in my car a few feet away watching him. I pulled out of there shaking. I called the police about 15 minutes later. Clearly the man had taken off because he wasn't visible on their cameras, but they said they'd send an officer over to check out the area . I really hope they took it seriously and checked their camera footage for the last hour. Don't let your guard down there. I've stopped here many times over the years and loved the stop. I have been driving back and forth to Ohio and Virginia for almost 20 years. The only place I stop, coming and going, is Beckley Travel Plaza. It is the halfway point for me either coming to Ohio to visit my family or me returning home to Virginia. It's a large travel location that is the perfect pit stop on your journey to your final destination. I normally fill up my gas tank here, use the restroom, grab a pick me up for the road and give my legs a good stretch. Being a solo traveler, I always feel safe stopping here. It's a well lit area and is normally full of people, day or night. The restrooms are always clean and there are plenty of stalls so you never have to wait. There is a few restaurants on hand. They have changed over the years, RIP Biscuit World. Currently there is a Starbucks, Burger King and pizza place. The Starbucks line is always long so be prepared to wait. The restaurants are not 24 hours but the small convenience store inside is. You can pick up snacks, drinks or a memento for your stop if driving late or overnight. If you want a safe, clean place to get stop along the West Virginia Turnpike I recommend the Beckley Travel Plaza. read more

Two stars for their location and the clean bathrooms. Minus 3 for the horrible service, no way to control traffic, and how short staffed they were for a Sunday afternoon. Horribly busy and other than the bathrooms and gas station, the rest of the travel plaza could not keep up. There's a Burger King (who's menu sign was off), a Starbucks (that seemed to handle their line well), a Quiznos (the unfortunate decision I made) and a small store. The workers at Quiznos must hate their jobs because I've never seen any fast food worker make sandwiches as slow as they were. So slow, that lets just say they give a new meaning to "fast food". On top of taking their sweet time, there were only 2 of them working during the lunch rush, not well staffed for a Sunday. Will make a note to never stop here again. read more

Yep,I paid $10 to take a shower here. I must have been desperate in my cross country travels. Actually, the showers were really nice, very clean. $9.50 plus tax for a basic shower, $1 more if you need soap and towel. Four stalls available. The attendant seemed a bit reserved until he knew I was actually going to take a shower, then he lightened up a bit. Maybe he gets a lot of kids in there asking stupid questions. Not that I'm a kid, but I did have my hood over my head (covering my greasy hair) and possibly looked suspicious. I was the suspicious one, since I've always heard tales of questionable activities occurring in truck stop showers. But nothing like that happened here. I just paid more money than I ever would pay and proceeded to take a long hot shower. The parking lot is CRAzY at night! Semis parked wherever the heck they want to park. They clear out quickly before sun up though. But that sign at the entrance that says "Cars only" just apparently doesn't exist in their eyes. read more

I remember the travel plaza's in WV - I believe they were populated by Howard Johnson's Restaurants. I found this travel plaza pretty entertaining. They had a good variety of (3-4) restaurants and shops as well as a Starbucks. This hit all the key notes I needed. As far as travel plaza and truck stops go... This rated higher since it had more variety (more like a mini-mall) to address all your traveling needs. Clean, affordable, and fast :) read more

If you want Burger King, great! They're ALWAYS open (but SUPER inflated prices and don't accept coupons, so keep that in mind). Not sure why any other fast food advertises there, because nothing else is EVER open it seems. read more
