I had never seen a counselor/therapist before so I was very picky and did a lot of research. I wanted someone who shared the same faith with me and had experience handling the issues I was dealing with. I narrowed my search to Jamie and that was one of the best decisions I've made in my life. Right from my first meeting with Jamie, I felt very comfortable, zero judgement, I was free to bear my heart out to her and she diagnosed the root cause of my issues which was a life with no boundaries. I had the biggest light bulb moments I've ever had in my life during our sessions. I spent over a year with Jamie and each session was super refreshing. I looked forward to each session. She uncovered a lot of connections from my past that were affecting some of the decisions and choices I was making. It was mind-blowing. I am a stronger woman with firm boundaries because of Jamie's help. She helped me work through each childhood hurt that was causing me depression. With her support, I had multiple difficult conversations with those in my past who hurt me and with each conversation, I was able to forgive and move forward and I felt a huge boulder drop from my heart. Second, I have been a patient of Dr. Scurria's for over twenty years and have always found her to be a responsible, knowledgeable and caring physician. Dr. Scurria was my physician before she joined the MDVIP program and despite being inundated with many patients, she has always taken the time to listen when I needed her medical advice and, she gives me sound advice. She has had a sign in her office which read (paraphrasing) "you may have to wait but you will have my undivided attention when I see you". If I need a specialist she always refers me to the best medical provider for a particular malady. I do not know her financial history, but I do know she has had patients who did not pay their bills. I would overhear patients in the waiting room discussing this among themselves. In addition, she has always maintained an office of very professional assistants, which must cost her dearly. I know she must have been under tremendous stress from seeing so many patients and having a huge financial responsibility. Joining the MDVIP program has made it possible for her to have less on her plate and thus help to keep her healthy and hopefully around for a long time. I will continue to be her patient for as long as she continues to practice and for as long as she can put up with me. When she joined MDVIP I was heartbroken. I thought I could not afford the program and I would have to give up my patient doctor relationship with Dr. Scurria, however, when weighing the pros and cons of having or not having her as my doctor, I decided it would cost me far more to lose her than the $1500 MDVIP fee. In addition, MDVIP worked with me to pay the fee in installments. A plan offered to all patients. Perhaps Jay D. really cannot afford the fee; I certainly understand that, however, to belittle a doctor for trying to improve their own situation so that they can offer their patients a healthier and less stressed physician, one who is willing to go the extra mile for her patients is either, someone who is unfamiliar with the everyday working life of a family practitioner or, someone who is just blatantly unkind. Of course you can find a doctor who does not belong to the MDVIP program but, you will not find a better more caring physician than Dr. Scurria.

He was very clear as to what forms of payment he accepts and how much per session he charges. He couldn't be botherrd as to the issues motivated me to seek counseling or any aspect of what I needed. When I went to the session before the appointed time in order to complete the paperwork as he requested, I found yet again an explanation of his charges, acceptable forms of payment and an explanation as to why he would not file on my insurance. Ironically, it was because he was an approved provider on my insurance that I made my way to him. I waited in the empty waiting room to be called in for my appointment. After 25 minutes with no word from him, much less an appearance, I left. Bad form, Dan. Very unprofessional. I would encourage anyone seeking a qualified counselor to look elsewhere.
