Houseaphilia: The addiction to home decor stores and wanting to decorate a home (which you usually don't own yet). Skip your trip to the therapist, I made this "addiction" up but you have to admit that you have probably been caught once or twice in an Ikea or Crate & Barrel designing a future home with money you don't have. Bedfellows fits into this genre of "shopping" and there I was looking at furniture which I can't afford and won't fit into my apartment. Bedfellows is basically a showroom of bedroom sets with a few other home decor items thrown in (lamps, a xylophone, etc). Currently, and this may just be the current home decor trend; the furniture was predominately vintage-inspired pieces. Admittedly, as a vintage buff, they were indeed interesting and attractive but I can find these pieces for much cheaper at garage sales, thrift stores, and vintage stores. Prove it, you say? Then come over to my apartment as it is straight out of a 60s-70s catalog and I bought everything at secondhand stores. Regardless, if you aren't into the search aspect of the quality of vintage/retro, you can shop at Bedfellows for vintage-inspired looks made with modern materials. Remember to bring your credit card because this place is pricey. The customer service here was sadly a bit prissy. The woman on duty did not make us feel comfortable and was more of the "I'm in your face because I don't trust you" sort of employee and seemed to snap slightly after anything we said/asked. It was one of those situations I complain about on Yelp when neighborhood stores unfortunately are not welcoming. Very small and slightly cramped, Bedfellows can still satisfy if looking for a specific (but pricey) piece. Overall, stick to Ikea. read more

I'm so pleased with my experience. The product I wanted had to be special ordered, and Bedfellows provided the fastest possible turnaround at no additional markup. The store owner was on top of things and communicative throughout all stages of purchase, delivery, and setup. And the final product was amazing. I was referred to Bedfellows through a friend when I asked where I should go to design and purchase my American Leather Confort Sleeper. We did shop around, but found all the prices were the same so we simply needed to find the best customer service to guide us. This was our first time to design a couch and at American Leather prices, we needed some hand holding. First off, Neil is the owner and the person you will deal with over the phone and in the store. He always answers the phone or calls back immediately. Right away I knew his customer service was great. My husband and I visited his store several times to pick out the fabric, design and style of couch. He was extremely helpful. Our couch was delivered a few weeks later and he kept us in the loop every step of the way. The couch is perfect! It's more then we could have imagined. He truly helped us pick out the perfect leather and color. He knows American Leather! He's an expert. I'd suggest depending on his advice and wisdom to get the right couch! His patience with my toddler running around during our many visits and with us changing our minds...his customer service never wavered. Never again. This used to be my favorite store. I bought furniture, accessories and one ridiculously over-priced plant stand from this store. Until recently, I've been happy with the quality and the customer service. BUT a few months ago I bought two recliners that had a number of problems, especially the fact that they started falling apart the week they were delivered. In the process of trying to exchange them, I've had to deal with an angry woman named Barbara who I assume is an owner or manager. She is "helping" me with obvious reluctance and resentment. After a few weeks of being stalled and ignored, and several emails and photos later, the store finally agreed to exchange the chairs and make the changes I wanted. Now I get a call from Barbara who has completely changed the story I was told by another employee, raised her voice to me numerous times and basically made up a story about a phone conversation we never had where we supposedly agreed on things I did not want. We never had this conversation. I think she is trying to berate me into admitting to something by sheer intimidation. She is argumentative, uncooperative and is treating me like I did something wrong when it is her product that failed. All I want is my money retuned and someone to pick up the crappy chairs so I don't have to deal with this store ever again. I ordered two pieces of furniture, a TV console and a bookshelf, and am very happy. The items arrived earlier then expected and were white glove deliveries - and included FREE of charge! The installer was top notch, very precise and careful with the assembly and cleaned up afterwards. No large cardboard boxes or bits of styrofoam left behind. I stumbled upon Bedfellows a couple months ago. As I looked through their collection of unique items, I saw a beautiful handmade slit drum. Because it was handmade, it was priced accordingly. I spoke with the Neil, the owner, and told him how much I loved the slit drum. I mentioned, as a music teacher, I am always looking for interesting instruments for my students. He offered to reach out to the artist who makes the slit drums to see if he could make a smaller one that was less expensive. Cut to two days later, I get a call from Neil, who had gone out of his way to call the artist, and explain to him that I was a music teacher interested in a drum for my music class. The artist not only made me a full size slit drum, but he gifted it to me for my school! Then kindness that Neil showed me, as well as the artist who created the drum, was such a welcomed surprise. For that kindness alone, I highly recommend supporting this beautiful store! read more

What a horrible experience, I took my friend to buy new furniture from this shop but honestly I should have read the reviews before hand, because many customers commented negatively about the attitude of the two owners. Yes Barbara I am talking about you! I am wondering how come you are in this business when after your staff made a bunch of mistakes and had a terrible attitude, you never said I'm sorry once after my friend spent $3700.00 in your store. Every employee gave me a different answer regarding the mistakes made and very little effort was made to right the problem. From getting the wrong item delivered which as it turned out they did not even have in stock, to being misquoted pricing on more than one item. Unfortunately my friend had just moved into a new home and really wanted the furniture but her yelling and talking down to us because we asked for a discount after all the screw ups was just innapropriate. As expensive as your store is the least you could do is be nice while you are screwing customers. I still love Studio city but Bedfellows was a huge letdown and I will never go back. read more

We LOVE this furniture store! After months of looking for the perfect bedroom set a friend told us about Bedfellows. We were delighted by the store - it is major eye-candy! They have vintage treasures expertly blended with the new. The first few visits to the store we kept finding great accessory items for other parts of our house. We love vintage items and even found a super cool new-to-us metal desk for the office. The staff listened to what we wanted and were very gracious and patient during our selection process - which was lengthy (weeks). We ordered a bedroom set and it arrived on time. The delivery guys were very careful and set everything up with care. We could not be happier with our beautiful new bedroom set and our experience with Barbara, Neil and Michael - the wonderful team at Bedfellows. Yes the items are higher priced then mass-market furniture stores. This is because they only offer fine & unique furniture - expertly crafted - heirloom quality - obviously built by craftspeople not assembly line workers. It was shocking to read that people would go to this locally owned and run store - take up their time and expertise and then try to find it cheaper elsewhere. Love Bedfellows! I keep coming back here, and purchasing something every time. Iv gotten multiple pieces for my empty home, and every time I come back I fall in love with a new piece. Neil is really nice and helpful, what are all these mean reviews about him! He deals with me and my boyfriends bickering and always manages to find us what were looking for. He sat with us and went through catalogs upon catalogs to help us find what we desired. If he says two weeks, he means two weeks (or less). Unlike most furniture stores, Bedfellows doesn't lie about delivery date. And their delivery guys are on time, and NICE! They get the furniture in with no scratches, and leave it where you please. Not to mention their super quick. I also adore Bedfellows for their great customer service, they actually call you to let you know the status of everything. My husband and I have been a customer here for years. Barbara carries the design aspect of the store while Neil handles all the business aspect. Barbara always helps us with the fabrics and shades while Neil tries his best to give us a good deal. As for their floor models, I would buy it all if I could. Their taste is amazing. We've custom ordered two Delarobbia chairs and a sofa so far and we've been pretty happy with both the product and the service. Gotta also love their first wave alternative music playing in the background. Something very nostalgic about their store that always gets me coming back. I bought a coffee table, a sofa, two chairs, and a bench from here and was very satisfied with both the pieces and the service. I have (or had) an empty house and so it was really nice that I could choose to buy the pieces off the floor and get them immediately. They offered to order me pristine new ones but I needed them asap so I elected for the floor pieces. I really love the style here, it meshes perfectly with my own and the stuff is quality made. Me and my GF took quite a while deciding on exactly what we wanted but Neil was patient with us even though I wouldn't have been quite so nice if I was in his shoes. I had my own interior designer already but I hear they offer design services also in addition to just selling furniture. If the way they have laid out the sections in the store is any clue to their skill level I would say they are pretty darn good designers. read more

My boyfriend got bitten by their dog! The dog was out in the showroom lying down and my boyfriend very slowly and cautiously leaned down to let it sniff his hand and it bit him, HARD! He had 3 small punctures on 3 knuckles. The lady said "Shorty go to your jail!" and never once said 'sorry'. She wasn't very concerned at all, actually. We shook it off as he wasn't bleeding badly or anything....we walked around the showroom for about 5 minutes only to find 'Shorty' still out and about, waiting to bite someone else! Totally ridiculous. I am a huge dog-lover but if your dog isn't 100% people friendly only an idiot would leave that dog out in their place of business, and leave it OUT right after it has bitten someone! read more

I love this store. I just moved into a new place in the area and purged most of my old furniture. I started at Bedfellows with purchasing a solid walnut platform bed which is just beautiful. Everyone always asks what it is and where I got it. I bought the floor model because I'm impatient and the delivery people showed up on time and were careful and professional. I have since been back for end tables, nightstands, a mirror, rugs, lights, etc. The furniture is great quality and design. Really the best part of my experience has been my dealings with Neil. He is knowledgeable, personable, professional and honest - just a pleasure to do business with. He will take his time explaining pieces and and items, give me ideas when I ask, and I have never felt any pressure to buy anything. Browsing Bedfellows is now a routine weekend stop. read more

I deeply regret having to come to the realization that I was taken by this store. I like the style of many of the products, and the store is generally fun. Some things are safe: ceramics, glass.. BUT!! A little over a year ago I bought from Bedfellowes: A coffee table. I remarked on the "solid wood" and the fat owner said yes. A week ago a friend wearing a dress walked past the corner and lifted off the unbelievably thin veneer. It's a piece of crap! It is coming up all over the whole surface of PARTICLE BOARD. I bought an expensive office chair. The wheels are breaking off, and some damage occurred to the "leather" which showed me it's not even leather. But sold as such. I am sorry to say this, but I spent good money to get quality and all I got was a "look". I do regret this, seriously. But the owners are not nice people, in no way personable. They don't warm up to you... I don't think they even like their customers, only fake it. I mean, nice without a connection, and disinterested in any discussion that is not about his taste and style. A glazed look when you talk about your things, having been inspired by THEIR things. I have the sense it's there as a money maker, not because of a real passion or even a consisten attention to quality or even interest in other people. Never again was right. ****UPDATE**** HAHAHAHA!!! As if on queue.. 2 of the wheels on my EXPENSIVE AND SUPPOSED TO BE NICE office chair have broken off. What a piece of crap! I weigh 156lbs... It's gorgeous and another one of my favorite "Let's Pretend I Had A Million Dollars To Furnish My Dream Home" stores and even if it all seems a bit out of your budget, it's great for inspiration and ideas. Avoid at all costs. I purchased an overpriced bed frame from here a couple of years ago. When I ordered it, I paid in cash (bad idea) and asked if it was constructed from hardwood. A reasonable question considering the price I paid. When I received the bed, it was not constructed from hardwood, but a pressed/particle wood of some kind. The delivery guys also chipped the right corner at the foot of the bed. A small, maybe 1/2" chip, but still damage to something i paid handsomely for. When I told them about this, they promised to replace it, but never did. This was a platform bed so it also had a middle support section, which was cracked when I received it and broke over the coming weeks. They PROMISED to replace the middle support. AFTER CALLING THEM NUMEROUS TIMES, THEY NEVER DID replace the support! So terribly unprofessional, I honestly can't believe they're still in business. I'm reporting them to the BBB now that I think about it. read more

The owners are seasoned in design & antiques and the store has been in business @ this exact location forever! Neil, one of the owners, was very helpful during my visit. He gave me a tour of the store and explained the history of various pieces and provided details and the backstory of various artists and designers. The store's design team has an impeccable way of combining elements from different time periods, styles, textures and colors to create a harmonious "story". Very difficult to do without looking like clutter. Somehow, each "room" showcased appears streamlined despite all the "tchotchkes" abound. Far from mainstream, each piece is hand-selected, and each room is unique. The "anti-Pottery Barn" of home decor, the combination of antique, vintage, with contemporary/modern is perfectly put-together with soul. Very professional store. Laura was a wonderful help in our purchase of American Leather reclining chairs. American Leather is a fine company in Dallas, Texas making high quality chairs & sofas. My first leather chair was in 2000 & it sold me on the company. Bedfellows is an honorable small business who backs their products. I would rather do business with a small business any day than with the big corporations who have created the swamp of 1%. This store & it's service is A+ in my opinion. I highly recommend Bedfellows plus they have fun, elegant, funky & luxurious items for every taste. I live by the coast but really miss these creative quality types of stores & believe we should support the local businesses & forget shopping at big box stores. Quality over quantity. After I witnessed a crazy woman demanding a refund for something she never paid for it is obvious that the Bedfellows staff has an incredible amount of patience and understanding (not to mention talent). It's astounding what can go on in a retail store but Bedfellows certainly proved that in the face of such abject insanity they were able to hold it together with such aplomb. I bought A very expensive mattress and Box spring there. I got a good price and so far no problems. I haven't met the legendary Barbara thankfully. My sails persons name was Neil he was friendly easy to talk to and a gentleman. There stuff all seemed nice maybe a little pricey , so offer them less or don't buy it. Life goes on. Don't get taken for a ride. I've seen several boxes from Ikea in the back room. For the quality of the merchandise the price point is way too high and the customer service is rotten. If you are looking for over priced furniture, a rude staff and a product that falls apart in 6 months, this is the place for you. The staff and owner Barbara are disingenuous, horribly opinionated and lack any form of accountability or professionalism. We purchased chairs 6 months ago for my home office and they look like they are 10 years old. We have had 3 separate designers come to the house and all three have commented on how old the chairs are already looking and how they quality is below par for the money. When Barbara asked us to drive back in the chairs, I did only to be met with hostility and insults. I expressed my concern with the insubordination and allowed Barbara to purchase the chairs back if she felt they were such a great item. instead she refused and felt insulting me in front of my wife and children was the way to go. I highly recommend that if you are looking for a good product and solid warranty, do not walk into this store. read more

Oh how these review are SO TRUE! I always like to give a place a chance, despite the reviews, but this place just bombed. First, it took forever to get someone to help me. Then when i did get someone to help me they knew nothing of what they were selling and decided to have a snotty attitude when i asked questions (i.e. "How durable is this fabric, what is necessary for maintenance, what material do you use for insert, do you offer down wrap for the insert, can we choose another fabric if we're not happy with what you have available, etc.). They also were quite rude when i requested that they double check with their superior (what can i say other than if you don't sound confident about your answer i'll be able to tell and i'll want to speak to someone higher up). read more

We needed a good quality, daily use sleeper couch for our condo. I looked at the reviews online and found out that though not perfect (what is...), American Leather's Comfort Sleeper got good reviews and had nice styles. Since this was quite pricey, I wanted to see it in person and this store had it, so less than a year ago we visited. We had wonderful service from Laura and they were very accommodating with holding the the couch until we moved. Our couch was delivered with no hitch or problems. But the best part comes after. As said, this this sleeper is in daily use and I could not be happier about the sleeper side: so easy to set up and so freaking comfortable. Perfect. And the leather is wonderful soft quality. I really like the way it looks and how it holds up with lots of daily use. I did have issues with the seat cushions since we chose the tufted option - I would not recommend that on the seat part -since the buttons started eventually popping off. My husband called Laura and they will be replacing the cushions with the ones without buttons and while they are at it, making them extra dense/firm (I would recommend asking that from the get go). Now that is great customer service!!! I could not be happier with this store. Thank you so much! read more

After a devastating fired that totally destroyed the iconic Bedfellows, I was elated to see that they have recently re-opened just 2 stores west of their original location. The new store is a smaller scaled down version of the original but still has some of the coolest one of a kind decor and accessory items you will find in the prime shopping district of Studio City. If you're decorating your apartment or house this is a must see. In addition, they continue to carry only the highest quality furniture items, now specializing in sofa beds and recliners. Not the kind of stuff you will find at most chain stores but designer quality items from the best manufacturers. I think the have been in business in Studio City for over 30 years. That doesn't happen by mistake. A unique one of a kind store that is always fun to visit. I always get great service and knowledgeable suggestions from the owner Neil, make sure you ask for him, he knows his stuff. read more

This store is really dynamite with lots of really cool furniture and lamps and things. But I got a problem with buying anything from a place that has a lousy atmosphere and that's what it is when you hear people who work there, maybe the owners, screaming and yelling at each other and using foul language in front of customers and employees. I overheard this not once but two times when I was in the store over the last several months like there was a huge fight going on. I felt really embarrassed to ask how much something was with this commotion going on and got out of there. I ended up buying my mattress somewhere else. read more
