I went into Bedford with quite a few questions. I use my camera for very limited purposes in the process of making other art, so my knowledge about cameras and photography is very minimal. I got all of my questions answered by a knowledgeable, respectful employee. I also got the accessories I need to take the best possible photos for my purposes. The best, most cost effective used lens for my needs was located at their Tulsa store. They coordinated that the lens be shipped directly from Tulsa to my home as I live quite a distance from Springfield. I expected the lens to be delivered in about a week, but two days later it arrived. I'm very happy with the service I got here and this is where I plan to go in the future. read more

I had never heard of this company before, but I read the reviews and they had 5 stars, and customers loved them. I ordered from them and the next day my order was shipping. I was ordering the camera and lens as a birthday gift. One of the online reps Sean, gave me a call to make sure before he shipped out my order to see if I was using the camera and lens together, because depending on what I was filming, he had a better recommendation on the lens. Since it was a gift I wasn't sure how it was going to be used, but he let me call the person to get more info before he shipped to make sure I was getting what I needed. I have visited Bedford many times and made several small purchases and also rented a couple of different lenses for special events, and have always received very good, friendly service. But I felt I just had to write up something I experienced in their store yesterday. I have three different tri-pods - two of which were not functioning well - and the third one needed a carrying case. I did not buy them at Bedford but I took them into the store and told them I needed help. The legs on the first two of them would not stay in the fixed position after setting them up - and they would slip and slide - and on one of them one of the legs began to "angle out" once it was set up. These were not cheap tripods so I didn't want to have to replace them. The person I first spoke with (whose name was Mark, I believe) immediately walked me back to the counter in the rear of the store and tried to find the tool(s) he needed to tighten the screws, etc. He wasn't able to find the right size tool so another person - Mary Lou - stepped up and wanted to help, too, and started looking for the correct tools. Then a third person - Jim - joined in. So I now had three people earnestly trying to help me - and who were ultimately able to resolve my problem. Their attitudes were wonderful and Mary Lou in particular was a delight to deal with. The charge for all the wonderful service? $ 0. Just good old fashioned customer service. read more

Never underestimate someone's ability to disappoint you. I went in for a simple task and left feeling insulted. If they don't understand what I'm doing or how I'm doing it that's not my problem but I don't need to hear it. I'm now going with the recommendations of a fellow photographer and sending my business elsewhere. All the way to the other side of the country, in fact. I love photography but hate photographers. Everybody just wants to tell you why they're right and you're wrong. It's art. There's no right or wrong. This place is a vast improvement over the predecessors. You can walk in there without feeling like you need to be a part of the club. They aren't afraid of film or film cameras and they do their best to help you. In this day and age that's a very rare thing. By the way, they do have a wet lab in there, and they will return your negatives. If you've been sending things off through Walmart you know that Fuji keeps your negative and mines it. read more

I can't begin to say how amazing and professional this place was for my family and I. We went to Bedford to scan photos onto a flash drive for my late grandmas funeral. When we asked for the photos to be high priority due to the funeral, they scanned and provided us with a newer USB completely free of cost. The printed and scanned photos were beautiful quality and they also gave my family and I a glimmer of happiness. One staffer shared with me some of her work. They even discouraged me from spending more on one thing to leave myself open to more options in the future. I'm a professional photographer and recently moved back to Missouri and had some old British slides that needed to be scanned so I could get some photographs printed for eBay. I called them and was so happy to hear that they could scan them for me and make prints! I then asked about some other odd shaped transparencies which were a lot larger and they also said yes! I went in and everyone was friendly and extremely professional. They called to let me know that my order was ready in a couple of days and they turned out exceptionally well! Do not go to Bedford if you expect quality work or good customer service. I was quoted $1 to scan pictures and $.38 to restore them. I specifically went over what that meant with the employee that was taking my order so we were on the same page. Especially considering these were my mothers wedding photos and meant a great deal to me. I was told it would take a week to do the work correctly. Got a call in less than 24 hours that they were ready. My scans were worse than before with white specs of dust on the scans and artifact that was not in my pictures. Customer service wasn't great, but they agreed to fix it. I was never angry or asked to speak to a manger, I was kind and asked them to correct the photos. Then I got a call from the manager who was irate, told me it would be $30 a picture to restore, accused me of lying, and was belligerent. I was kind the entire time and eventually had to stop the conversation and hang up because I couldn't take it anymore. He was beyond rude and the worst phone call or interaction I've ever had with a manger in my life. Would not ever recommend them to anyone and never will go back. read more

First the good things: I think that they have good prices, especially for developing and scanning film. The turnaround times are short, which I appreciate. I wish they sold 4x5 film, but other than that they've always had what I need in stock. However, the customer service I've had here has always been less than ideal. I'm a short woman in my early 20s but am well aware that I look high school aged. I'm used to people not taking me seriously because of how old they think I am, but it's never been as big a problem as it is here. I understand that a part of the job here is explaining things to people who are confused, but whenever I come in with film that I need scanned or developed I always encounter an employee (almost always men) who thinks I don't know what I'm doing and tries to talk me out of a certain DPI or ISO, for example. I handed in my external hard drive to transfer some scans onto and the man doing it for me asked if it was a PC or mac. I answered that it was an external hard drive and not a computer, to which he haughtily shot back "Well is it formatted for a PC or a mac?" In the end I can stand up for myself so every time it turns out okay, but the process of getting there is draining, and in this case ended with a snarky "here's your 17 gigs of photos..." at the end. I'm paying the same amount of money as I would have for a lower resolution scan so I don't see the cause for being snide. I would recommend Bedford since it's the only store like this in Springfield, but if you're young and/or a woman, be ready to face pushback from the staff. read more

How do you get these people to help you? I bought my camera from them less than a year ago. They loaded a program on my phone that linked to my camera that they sold me that same day. I just need pictures printed off of the same camera using the same program that they did it from before. Kent, says No! They don't have that program. He isn't familiar with android. Disappointed in my first experience. Went in and the salesman, Isaac Tover, to be lacking in customer service. Now he seemed knowledgeable, but had no social skills and made it seem like I was wasting his time by answering some questions. I don't mind spending a little extra money to support.the local economy, as I know online businesses have less overhead, but when uoi r products are at a higher price than online I feel the customer service aspect of your establishment needs to be decent and friendly. read more

I needed a new lens, and rented one from Bedford to try over the weekend with the knowledge if I purchased a lens, they would deduct the rental fee. Not quite the case, and it was not elaborated during our conversation prior to the rental, they only deduct the rental if you buy the lens you rented. I still purchased another lens for $500+ , but my next camera purchase will be on-line. The clerk mentioned when I rented the lens, he would be interested in some of my manual camera's and lenses. He took each lens and camera and went on-line to tell me what they were selling for, such as $20 for a Minolta camera. I decided to not sell any of my equipment and went home and listed that $20.00 camera for $100, and it sold within the hour. My point is, he told me the purchase was for himself (not resale) and it was worth only $20, hoping I would sell. Maybe they should call themselves, Bedford Camera and Pawn Shop. read more

I went to Bedford Camera in Springfield first for assistance with a damaged SD card and then to look at new cameras. They provided wonderful service. I am not technically astute with cameras and Mary Lou took as much time with me as needed to help me make the perfect choice in a point and shoot camera. I went into Bedford the other day (in hopes they had different staff from when it was Lawrence) unfortunately I recognized almost everyone. I've had multiple issues in the past with attitude and treating me like a child (I get I look young, but I am a twenty-something and age is no reason to treat someone poorly). Just to preface, I have 8 years of darkroom experience. I came to Bedford to purchase some film for a roadtrip to the Pacific Northwest. When the staff asked me what speed I wanted I hesitated, knowing I would be shooting outdoors however the PNW is not known for its sunshine. So I decided on 3 rolls of 400 speed film. The staff asked if I would be shooting indoors or out. I replied out but that I still wanted the 400. He suggested against that and said I should get the 160 instead. I firmely stated that no, I wanted the 400. So I bought three rolls and didn't bother to check the bag. The day before my trip while packing I realized he had gone against what I wanted and gave me two rolls of 160 and only one roll of 400. I was infuriated. I payed for 400 but the staff did not listen to my request and felt he knew better than me what I needed to be shooting. Low and behold the 160 has been a nightmare to shoot in dark forest lighting. I've had to stop at a camera store and buy all knew film. I wasted $30 for absolutely nothing. This behavior is unprofessional and dishonest. I will never be back to purchase or process any of my film here. I am completely disgusted by the way I was treated. read more

i had never been to Bedford before and after reading the reviews i was hesitant. I am glad i went. I had an issue with my d7100 not reading my new lens so i called them and they tried the best they could over the phone to help for about 30 min. They told me i could come in the next day and they would look at it for me. When i came in, i explained my problem and the lady behind the counter remember me and even showed me the notes she took from our phone conversation, great customer service. I ended up buying a d500, which i was already looking at, but there was zero pressure to buy and they were awesome to deal with. even after i decided to buy the d500, they let me use other cameras to make sure i was happy with what i was about to purchase. They have become my primary source. don't let the 2 bad reviews steer you away, some people are just never happy. it could be raining diamonds, then when a ruby hits them in the head, they get upset. read more
