First the good stuff - the décor is really nice, great artwork on the walls, nice carpeting, clean tiles, nice furniture. As I said, friendly staff, very helpful and courteous. We used a Marriot gift card, which is typically always a problem, but they had it done in minutes. The place is clean, rooms are very well maintained and the cleaning staff does an excellent job. It's about a 10 minute walk to the heart of the town so it's very convenient. It has a rooftop restaurant, a bar and a breakfast buffet. The gym is fantastic! One of the best I've seen! Super clean, multiple machines, a virtual workout station and plenty of free weights. The rooftop restaurant is nice, good food at a good price and has a great vibe. It's apparently a pretty trendy spot with the locals. The not so great - added fees. They charged us a $25 a day "destination" fee - money that they are "giving us" that we had to spend at the hotel. Well, if you're charging us automatically, then you're not giving it to us. No mention of that when we booked. Also, parking is not free - it's Valet ONLY and it's $45 a day. That was also misleading in the listing. It reads Valet or parking garage. You can take your chances and try to park on the street, but you have to pay for that too. Two observations that are neither good nor bad - the views are "ok" - there are multiple construction projects going on in the immediate area (not the hotel's fault) but it definitely doesn't make for great views of the water or town. Hopefully, in time, those projects will finish and make the neighborhood look better. It's also a pet friendly hotel, so you'll see lots of dogs coming and going. They do a really good job masking any "smells" or "sights" you would normally come across in a pet friendly environment - I honestly didn't notice anything until I saw an actual dog and thought "oh wow, I guess they are pet friendly" Overall, a very good experience, just didn't appreciate getting nickel and dimed with extra fees.

We have been staying at this Portsmouth, New Hampshire hotel since Saturday on what was supposed to…read morebe a much-needed vacation. Unfortunately, our experience has been extremely disappointing. For the second day in a row, we returned to find that our room had not been cleaned. I repeatedly asked the front desk to make sure our room was serviced each day. We are traveling with our small dog, Rocky, who is crate-trained and secured in his crate whenever we leave the room, so there is no reason staff could not enter. In fact, we went out of our way to introduce Rocky to the housekeeping staff during our first two days to ensure they were comfortable and that there would be no issues. Despite those efforts, our room was still skipped two days in a row. The only response we received from the front desk was an apology, with no meaningful attempt to resolve the situation. While this hotel advertises itself as dog-friendly, that certainly has not been our experience. If housekeeping is unwilling to service rooms because a guest is traveling with a well-behaved, crated dog, that policy should be made clear before booking. I am terribly disappointed with our stay and would not recommend this hotel to anyone traveling with pets.
