This is the kind of place that families have been coming for generations. You definitely step back in time. Its divey. We started with the onion rings which are hand battered! They were not bad but I prefer a thinner cut onion ring. The comeback sauce they served with it was great. I ordered the Beechwood Special with a 6 once filet medium rare with creamed spinach. The filet was a lower quality cut but you get what you pay for ... steak, salad and side all for about $44. The service was very good... no complaints there. The steaks and pork chop were the best I ever had! However the sides were mediocre at best. The fried green tomatoes appetizer had hollandaise sauce and crab meat, but the fried tomato by itself had no flavor whatsoever. The battered fries had no taste without the dipping sauce. The mac and cheese was dull tasting and the green salad was more lettuce, one tiny wedge of tomato and 2 little rings of onion. I really expected more for the price of the food. The service was good. Very busy . It reminds me of an old cafe/truck-stop from the 50/60's era. The cafe was full and it was a little too loud for my personal comfort. read more

Eat here often when in town. Steaks and shrimp are good. Asked waitress if grouper was fresh. Said comes in fresh and they freeze it so I decided to try it. I could smell it as soon as they sat it down. Was so fishy tasting, I could hardly eat half of it. Told the waitress and she said she would tell the manager. Well, never saw that person. Traveling through and stopped at Beechwood. . The parking lot was full but they had ample seating . I had Great catfish , sweet potato and broccoli. Hubby had jumbo fried shrimp and onion rings . Amazing service, the waitress remembered us every time we came back (3 times). Loved the lounge area, fun open and great for sports. Absolutely the best steak in the area. The au jus served with the steak is the wildest and most underrated item I never knew I needed with a steak (slightly sweet and fatty like butter). If you are within a 30 minute drive, do it. Food was average, service was good atmosphere was lacking in my opinion because everything was outdated looking and the worst part for me was the smell. The place smelled like a nursing home or at least it smelled like they use the same type cleaning products, my wife agreed when I made the comment. The ceilings have water stains from either the a/c duct work sweating or roof leaking and there's no telling what might be going on up there. Overall I'd give this place a 3.5 star. read more

I enjoyed the special with filet and fried catfish. The filet was cooked perfect, and the fried catfish was prepared perfectly. I had the crab claws and it was a very nice portion. I had the steak prepared Med-rare, cooked perfect, and the dipping sauce is a sweat aju, hard to describe but compliments the meat really well. The fried shrimp are normally good but last night they were rubbery as if they were boiled then battered and fried. Another issue was the steak not be cooked as ordered. As the prices are already high and going higher I see no reason to pay for the inferior quality food that is being served. Same for the other 3. Someone at our table said that seemed to happen a lot there. That is not acceptable for this to occur on any regular basis. My steak was very tough, and very difficult to cut and to chew. Presumably that would have been better at Medium Rare. Give a passing glance of approval to the ghosts that obviously haunt this joint. Give a tithe to the cooks of your beautiful creation. Would not recommend. We wanted to try something different from the usual chain restaurants and chose it due to other reviews on Yelp. We ordered the fried pickles, catfish dinner and Beechwood cheeseburger. Good: The sauce for the fried pickles was great and the jalapeño bun on the burger was the best part of the meal. Bad: Absolute worst catfish we have ever had, not much flavor except for extremely fishy. The fries were mediocre. The burger was also bland, cheese was not even melted, and it was slathered in mustard. Meals were supposed to come with hot buttered rolls, they never made it. We did find out from the table beside us that they were out of them. The service was poor also. We waited for silverware after we had received part of our meal and finally got it from another waitress not ours. The overheard communication with other tables was sarcastic "we have other tables that have been waiting even longer than you". The customers got up and walked out. Comment might have been ok if it wasn't for the tone it was delivered in. The restaurant itself was dated and dingy, what could be expected from an old diner. I don't generally judge a restaurant from appearance, some of the best places to eat are old diners similar to this one. read more

As we were in Vicksburg on a Tuesday when our B&B's restaurant and nearby go to restaurant is closed we wanted to try something new for a change. This store has been at it for like over 65 years. The dining area is expansive and there is a large back bar area with additional seating. The tables are covered with white tablecloths topped with plexiglass. The table is set with a nice red cloth napkin. I ordered a Tanqueray Martini up. It came to the table ice cold and fully at least 4 ounces. Ten bucks. Very, very good. A+. We shared the fried shrimp and oyster dinner. Both the shrimp and the oysters were very large and perfectly cooked, which is to say not overdone. The batter here is nice and crispy but a little hard. But really tasty. The onion rings are great and it all comes with three sauces... cocktail, comeback, and remoulade. The house salad with blue cheese dressing was terrific. Super fresh and crisp ingredients and a very nice dressing. We'll definitely be visiting here again on our future layovers in Vicksburg. read more

This place has been consistently excellent for YEARS!! It's been a while since I've been here but, as usual, they did not disappoint!! Everything was DELICIOUS!! I had the filet and I'd rank it up there with some of the best that I've ever had (and I've had A LOT). I mean, seasoned and cooked to PERFECTION!! The fried green tomatoes and wedge salad (with homemade blue cheese dressing, yep) were awesome as well. Now, the aesthetic of the establishment leaves a lot to be desired. It's an old establishment. It's been around for a LOOONG TIME and the decor reflects it. No frills for sure. Don't let that deter you though. It's stayed around for a reason and it's always packed to the brim with customers. On Thursday Feb. 20, my daughter and I were on the way to Florida from East Texas. We had driven past Texas Roadhouse in Monroe, LA and my daughter said, "I want Texas Roadhouse." So I looked to see the closest one. Well the closest one was back in Monroe and we we're not going backwards. So I typed in Steak House near me and Beechwood came up and the picture I saw looked AMAZING! It was only like 10 min from where we were. So we headed there for dinner. OMG!! It was soooo good! The salad was yummy and the steak was cooked perfectly!! Topped it off with a baked potato (daughter had loaded potato and mac & cheese). The mac & cheese was awesome, too! All I could think about was if we pass through here during open hours, we are eating this on the way home!!! The service was great! The restaurant felt like home. Like everyone in the town knows everyone and they all eat at Beechwood!! Oh how I wish I lived closer!! We're about 5 hours away. On the way home from Florida, we passed through Vicksberg about 3 1/2 hours before opening. So sadly I did not get to enjoy that meal again. But you can bet I will be back one day!! read more

Vicksburg was one of the stops on my itinerary last week and Beechwood was recommended by the hotel that I was staying at, which was across the street. I equate Mississippi with really friendly people, but I didn't get that feeling here. Our waitress almost seemed bothered to be working and spoke in monotonic tone. Dinner: I ordered the filet with bay scallops and broccoli. The filet was supposed to be medium rare, but was more medium well (quite disappointing). The steak, not the greatest but the bay scallops were pretty amazing. Now, my co-worker ordered the same dinner and his was actually medium rare (smh). The restaurant has a local, homy kinda feel. Upon entering, right there is where the grill is, sectioned off in the corner of the restaurant with plexiglass (pretty neat!) Would I go back, maybe. I neglected to review our first visit a few weeks ago. Our hotel manager recommended Beechwood and when we pulled in to the parking lot... the only way we would have known this gem existed was through his recommendation. Y'all, this food!! We did oyster po'boy and fried green tomato BLT the 1st visit. So good I drove almost 6 hours today to come back. (It's a great stop on our multi-state move) Tonight, I tried the stuffed shrimp: OMG the flavor!! Just amazing. My partner had the Beechwood Burger. So amazingly flavorful. And the fries!!! It's so awesome to mix with the Vicksburg locals and watch them pick their steaks from the butcher case and see the chefs prepare them over the flames. The employees here are simply amazing. The bus boys turn tables like I've never seen. And the servers have such charm and personality. Ask for Dani. She's a dream. I'm not sure how many more trips we'll have to make before we make our final move, but I know that Beechwood will be a constant stop for us. read more
