After 7 years we happened to be back in the area. We remembered eating here but couldn't remember the name. After some research and some help from our hotel we were able to verify this was the right place. As we remembered the service was great. We felt really comfortable as if we came there every week. All of the staff were welcoming and helpful. The original owner passed away based on a memorial in the menu. But it seemed like everything he built remained the same. My original steak sandwich wasn't on the menu this time so I got the "Friday Steak Special ". This was a hand-cut steak that was 13-14 oz steak and was very tender and had good flavor. It was much more fatty than I expected but I like a bit of gristle. This place is a diamond in the rough and they embrace the "hole in the wall" feel since it's even on their t-shirts. My parents were with us this time around and they liked the fries, onion rings, and burgers. My wife got grilled shrimp and loved it as well. THIS IS A CURRENT AND ACCURATE REVIEW!!! All of the reviews I read must be old and no longer accurate. We stopped for lunch and the place barely had any lights on inside. I pictured that this must be what it's like in a strip club during the day.‍The fountain drink machine was out of order so drinks were canned and you could get ice out of an ice chest that was sitting out. As far as the food, we were told that we could eat from the lunch line or get a burger with fries. I could not even tell you what was on the lunch line due to the dim conditions but it seemed to have been sitting for quite a while. I saw reviews with photos of great looking food. This was NOT that. We ordered burgers and fries and then felt like we couldn't leave. The burgers were good but the hand cut fries were too thick. Then the kicker is that it turns out a burger with fries is $14. I was very irritated to find out that my husband also left a tip when no one waited on us. A lady at the counter took our order but we had to speak to her first when we walked in. She was not friendly. She did not check on us or do anything that qualifies as a waitress/server. I don't know how this place passed health inspections and really feel bamboozled by the reviews I had read that led me to this place. We walked in to this place on a bright sunny day at 12:30 in the afternoon, and it was movie theater dark inside. Every square inch of the place was covered in old, dirty, knick knacks. (Yelp billed this garage sale junk as, "memorabilia." HA!) We managed to make it through the dark to a counter where we asked a guy wiping sweat off of his face where we ordered, and he said, "here." There were no menus, no menu board, nothing. He just pointed to several vats of food under a warming lamp and started naming off food as he continued to wipe sweat and swat flys away. We looked at the food in the vats and saw macaroni and cheese, some sort of meat, mashed potatoes, and various other bulk-made items. Nope! We turned around and got the heck out Dodge. Definitely a one of a kind place. From the outside it looks like a little antiques store. The interior is very rustic, filled with unusual antiques and the food is off the hook. The fried green tomatoes are some of the best I've ever had. The fried dill pickles were crispy and really good. The steak is so tender and well seasoned that no sauce was needed. I had a baked potato that was slow roasted and delicious. My friend had the Bayou burger and it was huge! It's so big that it could almost be shared with another person. The staff is awesome. If you like to smoke, this is a good place for you since it is allowed inside. There is a small smoke free area, but We had to take it with us. I really should know better by now to not judge a book by its cover. This place looks like a complete dump inside and out. I was nervous pulling up here, scared I might get murdered. No kidding. Yelp helped me find another hidden gem. Klondyke is awesome! If you have read my reviews, or seen my check-ins, you know that I enjoy visiting places that some may consider sketchy, shady, or even slightly murderous. I am also always on the lookout for a great burger, which is what led me to Klondyke. When I first saw Klondyke I was a little worried. It looked like an old shady gas station and I was reluctant to walk in. Once I walked in I was even more reluctant, but I put my faith in the great yelp reviews, and I am glad I did. Here is how the experience went: We walked in the front door and saw a small convenience type store to my left, a bar looking area to the left complete with two older guys drinking Bud Heavy and smoking Marlboros. We just kind of stood there not really knowing what the heck we should do when a younger girl walked up. Girl: Can I help you? Me: Do you have food? Girl: Yes. Me: Um, is there a menu? Girl: I can make pretty much any short order food. Me: I have no idea what that means. Girl: Like short order type food. Me: Do you have hamburgers? Girl: Yes. Me: Can we each get a cheeseburger with fries? Girl: OK I was all ready to send derogatory compliments to any yelper who had written a review of the place based on the experience until the food was delivered. When I say that the food was good, it was fucking delicious. The griddle cooked burger was perfect and the fries were hand cut, salted and seasoned and blew my damn mind. If you would have bet me $1000 bucks that this would be the best burger I had ever had in Mississippi, I would've taken your bet, but I would have lost. So glad we overcame the sketchy outside. We started to hesitate to give this place a try, but with the high ratings from YELP, we ventured inside. Still, the inside is dark and the clientele appears to be hardworking locals. We sat down and dove in with the fried green tomatoes, topped with crawfish and "come back" sauce. I would have walked straight out the door. The months of built up crud is a health code violation , I am sure. PLEASE CLEAN THE RESTROOM, I want to come back!! I ate every bite of my food, so I hope the lack of cleaning in the restroom does not carry over to the kitchen... but then again, the waitress did warn against washing my hands in the unisex bathroom and directed me to an equally gross sink. Whenever I'm in Vicksburg I go see David and the crew at the Klondyke. Being from San Diego I am quite the beer snob. The Klondyke does not disappoint when it comes to beer selection.
