Worst experience I've had with fast food. I used to think that the line was always packed because of the amazing service but no. There's always long lines because of the extremely slow food service. My Dad wanted a harvest salad for lunch so I went to the drive thru at Beef-a-Roo for a late lunch. I waited behind a car that was at the speaker for more than 10 minutes. It took another several minutes for him to order, meanwhile not a car moved I. front of him. I pulled up to the speaker and waited another couple minutes u til they took my order. A minute or two later the line finally moved one spot. I still haven't even rounded the corner so I can't say what they were doing but after waiting another 10 + minutes I had enough! I had been in the line for a half hour and still wasn't even headed toward the window. I left. Dad still wanted his salad for dinner so I went back. the "manager" was speaking Spanish to the kitchen staff, three girls stood around near the fryer, and after a short while they took my order. when it was prepared the " manager" apparently called my name though I couldn't understand her. I took the meal to Dads house and had the worst tasting, toughest beef and cheddar sandwich ever. when Dad finished he said "I guess this is the last time I order this" because his salad was apparently as bad as my sandwich. Way to go new owners! You've managed to destroy what was once one of the best fast food restaurants in the area! really bad staffing, bad food, delivered at a snails pace!, F- You won't see the two of us 2-4 times a week any longer! read more

The service here is always a hit or a miss. Th lady at the front with blue hair was incredibly rude and misleading. I asked to upgrade my drink size and she said that I would be able to then didn't do it and charged me for a ranch when it has came with my meal free of charge every other time I have come to this beefaroo and others. I always seem to have a problem whenever this blue haired person is here. I don't know if they have issues but it really needs to be fixed. All I am asking for is a nice experience while getting my lunch. This is not the first time and will definitely not be the last time that I have been disappointed by this person who is the face of this establishment when i come here. First-timer did t quite know what to expect. Italian beef? Nope. Kinda like Culver's meets Arby's in a weird way - BUT way better than Arby's and as good or better than Culver's, too! The regular beef sandwich was piled high with delicious shaved roast beef. So much great flavor. My sister's burger was excellent and the fries were very good. Stopped here while I was in Rockford. I've never heard of this chain before... mostly in Illinois. I tried the very delicious olive burger (nicely cooked, and very juicy). The French fries were perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside, and tender on the inside. They have a very extensive menu, consisting of roast beef sandwiches, several types of burgers, and even soup or chili, which is seasonal. Staff is very polite and accommodating. Prices are very reasonable. Hopefully we get Beef a Roos up in Wisconsin. read more

This place was nothing like I expected, although I'm not sure I could tell you what I expected. Coming with a seasoned professional I was a bit overwhelmed, but with her astute guidance I settled on chicken strips, a junior cheddar fry (not cheese fry, I'm told this is important), and a chocolate shake. The shake was literal perfection. It was simplistic and delicious. The cheddar fries are excellent as well. Pairing perfect fries with ooey gooey cheese is a genius idea. And the fact that they layer the cheese and fries parfait-style is so smart. Chicken strips were very good as well, although the breading was a bit thick for my liking. The space is open and welcoming. Very clean. And the staff were so kind. I would definitely recommend. read more

I think some of these regional fast food chains get a lot of points from local folks due to the nostalgia factor. There's something to be said for the tastes you grew up with, the ones that remind you of a special day or a fond memory. So, that said, I get what Rockford people like about Beef-a-roo. It's definitely a step above most of the national chains just based in the fact that it's clean, people are friendly, and the food is fresh. That said, the burgers are simply "if Burger King looked and tasted like the picture on the menu." At least that was my son's remark when he tried the bacon cheeseburger. The cheddar fries are tasty and it's nice that there's cheese all throughout the cup, but they're nothing special. I'll pop in again if I'm in Rockford, just because it's different, but it's not something I'll be craving. read more

You have to be pretty rude for me to bother writing a bad review, and I have a lot of empathy for service industry workers, so when I say the people who work here are rude, I mean it. We called back because our order was wrong (no biggie, happens sometimes,) and my wife wanted to make sure she wasn't charged for food she didn't get, and whoever answered the phone was rude as shit and cut her off and promptly hung up on her. Most of the restaurants and fast food joints on this side of town, and Auburn st in particular, are questionable to downright awful (especially the big chain fast food spots) Beefaroo is probably the only place actually worth going. I've been there many times and have never had a problem, food is always fresh and delicious. Their shakes are awesome, roast beef is extremely good (way better than the other roast beef places). The roast beef is flavorful enough to eat their sandwiches plain, or with cheddar. Rather than ordering cheese on anything I usually prefer to just order a cup of cheddar on the side, is cheaper and usually works out better. There was a period several years ago where I knew of Beefaroo and it's kind of silly memorable name, but had never tried it or gone in there. Until one day I tried it and now it's my go-to choice for fast food. I always get the kids beef sandwich or two, fries, cup of cheddar, large shake (banana is great) and a kids berry fruit cup (these are also really good and refreshing!). Can't recommend this place enough. Just look at their reviews compared to any other fast food place on this side of town. read more

This may not be saying much but "BEST MEAL IN ROCKFORD YET!" We've been here for a total of 4 weeks (with weekends in Chicago, yay!) and this was the best down to earth food we've eaten here that's not a chain you can find in Chicago (Chipotle, BWW, Red Robin, etc don't count!) Not only was the food fresh and tasty, it was cheap and served with EXCELLENT service. They brought me horseradish even though I could've gotten it myself, and towards the end of our meal, they offered us a mint or Andes chocolate mint with a wetnap. That's never happened at a fast-food type restaurant before! Got the beef and cheddar, which melted in my mouth - a high quality version of the beef sandwich at Arbys. My friend devoured the chili, which he said was like homemade, and also at the southwest crunchy chicken wrap, which was loaded with beans, corn, etc - it was literally heavy. When it comes to getting a decent burger in Rockford you really only have one option and this place is it. The burgers are huge, cooked to order, and tasty. The fries are great, they put some special seasoning on them (I am thinking onion salt but I could be wrong) and I can't get enough of them. Great shakes and malts are also really good. The best part... Well, the best part is hard... it is either the little old lady who passes out mints and chocolates to each person or the theme (this location happens to be the industrial Beef-A-Roo, I think the north woods one on Forest Hills is the best). Beefaroo is something out of National Lampoon's Vacation. In fact, I think the Griswold's stopped at Beefaroo right between their visit to their inbred cousin's trailer in Nevada and holding up the security guard at Wally World. We all know that there is an unsaid appropriate distance you keep from the counter when you are deciding what to order at a fast food joint. Once you decide, you move in for the kill and place said order. And, if the person behind the counter asks, "Can I help you?" before you are ready to place that order, you feel a little jilted, rushed and a little ticked off. Right? When I asked the local-yocals about where I could find a decent quick lunch, they argued over whether I should check out Culver's or Beefaroo. They decided upon Beefaroo and my schedule agreed so ready or not, my virgin Beefaroo stomach was ready. I hadn't even entered the Almighty Beefaroo and an overly-pleasant woman behind the counter who freakishly resembled one of the Stepford Wives smiled and asked, "Can I help you?" The following was my experience after those 4 little words were uttered: I felt irritated. And rushed. Didn't she know about the unsaid rule? There was sensory overload. Do I want the blue cheese burger? Or the hot dog? Why do all the women working here look like they belong to some sect of the Moonies? Mmm, onion rings. Shit, I have to pick up milk after work. You get the point. The food was good. The lettuce and tomato were fresh and hey, they had crumbly blue cheese for the burger. But, it was fast food. I think Beefaroo thinks of itself as Rockford's answer to In-N-Out Burger in SoCal. Not so. But, it is several notches above Micky Dee's. I recommend the Cilantro lime turkey, the Santa Fe chicken salad (a meal in itself) and the buffalo chicken sandwich. Also, the seasoned salt it a total winner. Get a can for home. This place is the best fast food you'll find. They have such a wide range of choices (from healthy to not so healthy.) I have always been a fan of the California club (sliced turkey, mayo, cucumbers, tomato, sprouts, wheat bun.) Their cheese fries are excellent--they never skimp on the cheese. Great BBQ beef sandwiches, too. Best of all, they have the largest selection of shake flavors you'll ever see...at least at a fast-food place. Coconut, banana, mint chocolate, you name it. And they top them nicely with whipped cream and a cherry. I like the oldies theme, too. Posters are up of old movies, 1950's decor, even artifacts from those days. On 12-1-17, we were on our way to Indiana & decided to stop & eat, it was after 8pm. My boyfriend had been to a Beef-a-Roo previously, it was my first visit. We just ordered our food & a bus 25-30 of kids came in. We sat in your lobby, ate our food, which was very good!! The bus group was gone, before we finished eating our meal, in approx. less than 15 min. We went up to the counter & we told your employees, we thought they did a great job. I told them that I was a Store Manager of a McDonald's in WI, and that I was really impressed at how quickly they serviced the bus!!! One of the employees said something to the effect, "If we knew that, we would have put you to work" .....we were all laughing. The Friday night crew were AWESOME!! For a chain fast food joint local to the Rockford area, this place is pretty decent. I tried the roast beef and it was ok. At least the meat actually tasted like real meat unlike other typical chain burger joints. I think my fav was the cheese fries and onion rings. It's not only about the cheese fries, but seriously, get cheese fries. The onion rings are also amazing and the roast beef, great chicken strips not skimpy little pieces. Salads and cold sandwich choices that are really delicious too. The bacon blue burger is great. The locations are clean, themed in building design and they come around to check on you and offer a choice of mint candy. This place was fantastic! I happened to be in Rockford for a day trip and passed by this place. It had good reviews so I stopped in. I got a beef sandwich that was DELICIOUS. The ingredients were identifiable both by eye and by flavor. Typically burger joints are serving "burger" flavored piles of meet, but this was something all its own. I also got a strawberry shake and fries. Great for lunch at a good price. If I'm ever in Rockford again, I'll probably stop here! read more
