Again, don't fall asleep on this place and drive past it to hit some fast food burger chain. Buddy's is the real deal. Great, family owned joint with friendly and quick service. Deliciously prepared food... at a very affordable price-point. I went with the turkey burger, while my counterpart ordered a full-blown burger with a ton of toppings. We both got sweet potato fries and they were also delicious. The turkey burger was really good. This was our second trip here. I had the single burger with mayo, cheddar, lettuce, and onions with a side of fries. DH had the Italian Beef with onion rings. Our meals with drinks were a little over $30 which I felt was too pricy. My burger was ok but not great. The "lettuce" was more like Romaine and too crunchy. The fries, to be handcut, were terrible. Being a diabetic I had to order a double burger without the bun. They were very accommodating with the toppings - I added American cheese, an over easy egg, bacon, onion ring and jalapeño peppers. Visted Buddy's completely on accident but due to a yelp review and needless to say yelp and Buddys did not disappoint. Immediately upon entering I smelled good food and was greeted with a smile. The menu is vast and they also do rotating options for specials too. I settled on the chicken Philly sandwich with extra crispy cheese fries and moverla sticks too. I haven't had a chicken Philly seasoned and this juicy ever, it's by far my favorite. The fries were crispy too and well seasoned. The portion was amazing and I was really happy. I will say the cheese sauce was just meh but I didn't mind that. I will also say this is definitely not the most healthiest of options to choose from but they won't disappoint. Our favorite burger place in Rockford! Friendly staff. Delicious food. Good portions. Reasonable price. Burgers are highly customizable and made-to-order. Always delicious. I think the waffle fries are better than the normal/home fries. The sausage gravy dipping side is good. I suggest avoiding putting mushrooms on your burger, because they seem to be the canned/watery kind of mushrooms, so it doesn't improve the burger, unfortunately. Great local spot! Fun and inviting atmosphere with Chicago sports teams as the theme (go Cubs!). Lots of good food choices. My wife and I have only ever gotten the create your own burgers because they are very good and we don't need to mess with excellence. I always get the turkey burger as the patty but they have beef burgers and veggie burgers too. Start with your choice of meat then add as many good toppings as you want. I'd definitely recommend pairing it with sweet potato fries. They also offer other entrees like sandwiches, hotdogs, and chicken fingers if you're not in a burger mood. No. No thank you. Maybe it's changed hands since the good reviews were written. Maybe it was my menu selection. I don't know, but I surely won't be back. It could have been me. Who goes to a place with "Burgers" in the name and then orders a Po Boy sammich? That's lunacy. I KNOW better. Nothing was terrible (well maybe except the floor delaminating and coming apart, but I don't care much about that.) It was all just kind of "meh" and more than a little annoying. Of note, the sandwich had some fried shrimp tucked way down into the crack of the roll (I can't really call it a "hinge" because it fell apart upon lifting it for the first bite.) On top of the shrimp were loads of shredded lettuce, covered with thiiiiiin slices of tomato on top, dressed with a delicious remoulade. All looked good UNTIL I tried to lift it to eat it. Of course, the roll's "hinge" broke, the shrimp all fell out, covered with part of the lettuce, and when I tried to bite into what was left of the sandwich, I got a mouthful of rather tasteless lettuce and roll, and both nostrils full of delicious remoulade sauce. The rest was an exercise in reassembly and consumption of a mostly insipid (except the remoulade) collection of ingredients. C'mon, guys. Use your noggin. Try eating one of these things. Then go back to the drawing board and rethink how to create and serve them. That's my advice. No charge. You're welcome. read more

The sandwich was basically a frisbee disk sized piece of deep fried, unseasoned pork loin with a comically small bun in the center. The pickles and mustard were the only part that was decent, other than that, the bread was dry. Not only was the meal a workout but I found a hair in it. I got the special when I was there it was the Cheese Curd Burger Combo. $12.99 and came with fries and a drink, I subbed onion rings and it was a small upcharge I think, but it was worth it! The burger was well seasoned and delicious. Topped with sauce and bacon, and cheese curds, and the onion rings appeared to be beer battered and were also excellent. My partner got a build-your-own burger on texas toast with sweet potato fries. Another great combo there and this place was just generally very impressive. Certainly not the most fancy of burger places, but you can go in and make a completely custom burger from meat, bun, cheese, and toppings. I tend to get a little away from traditional and essentially make a swiss patty melt but add barbecue sauce and sauerkraut and put it on Texas toast. Deliciously odd combo. Probably one of the best flattop burgers I have had in this area. It was our first time. When we got there, there was only two other people there. By the time we ordered and sat down to wait for our food, the place filled up. I think the kitchen was over whelmed. We ordered the gouda bites and assumed they were gouda curds because there was no description for them, Although they were not bad, I would not have ordered them if I knew they were gouda mac and cheese bites. They were a bit under fried and would have been better if they got a little more browning. There was three of us, we got a custom double, probably one of the best I have had, a corn dog, a beef, a gyro, waffle fries, cheese fries, and fried apple pie bites. The best of the meal were the burger and the fried apple pie. Everything that was fried (except the fried apple pie because it came out at the end of the meal) was ice cold. The waffle fries, the fresh cut fries, and the corn dog were room temp. The cheese sauce never made it out. When we asked to have some fresh fries, they never made it back to the table. The gyro was also cold and we were served tiny scraps of gyro. The beef was mediocre at best with a cheap bun and also room temp. I think whatever was easy to make, was made well before the burger was even started, then just sat on a counter and not even under a heat lamp. If everything would have come out hot, it would have made a big improvement on the mediocre things. The fried apple pie was phenomenal. Thanks again to Yelp, I did a quick search and with all of the good reviews, I suggested to the kids, burgers for dinner and we were so glad we found Buddy's Burgers. I know it was fairly new and sometimes you have to take new reviews with a grain of salt but Buddy's Burgers did deliver with a great quality burger, creative menu and offerings and value. With Covid in place, there was no dinning in which we would have preferred after spending 4.5 hours driving. I ordered off the weekly specials menu and had the Bacon Blue Burger which is two patties, blue cheese, onion, mayo and bacon ($12.99). My kids ordered a single patty build your own and added lettuce, tomatoes, fried onion, ketchup with fries. Big portions, big burgers oozing with toppings, juicy and messy...everything you want in a burger. I would think their burgers would be a great hang over cure. If we lived near by, they would be on my top 2 burger places. If we get back to Rockford, we will be eating at Buddy's. read more
