Went here last night for a late dinner with family. Two of us ordered the ribeye platter. The third person ordered casadilla's with Delmonico steak & an order of deep fried Pierogies. Server was nice and professional. Unfortunately the Beef Baron ran out of beef! No ribeye steaks were left. Evidently there was a run on them earlier in the evening. Imagine that?! We ended up with alternative meals. My mom with fish and me a bunless burger. Food was decent but I'd had my heart set on steak, honestly. 3 stars because they fell down on not having steak inventory in their beef restaurant. read more

They charge for water. Don't know why but paying for water is forbidden, just kidding it's extremely unwelcoming. Like almost an invitation to not come back, which some of the regular patrons asked me to go and then you got to pay for what is free, it's considered an insult in some cultures. read more

Been going to this place for a while since it's walking distance from my house and it's always good. The food is great priced and always consistent. Their fries are especially great! we went to the race St. Tavern a week or so ago and were disappointed. we decided to go back to the Beef Baron. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! great service! Delmonico steak sandwich was on point! Wife's salad and sandwich were also excellent. The same owner has both but we were disappointed at Race St. last time for several reasons (see previous review ) owner suggested that I stay at home to eat after previous review. we like to go out so we did not heed his suggestion! Would give 0 stars if I could. I went there to eat with my family about 9 months ago. We used to eat here and this owner's establishment on Race St in Catasaqua. I ordered the Taco Salad. After the waitress came back with our drinks less than 2 minutes later, I asked if the meat had Taco seasoning and if they had Taco sauce and receiving "No" as an answer, I told the waitress I didn't want the taco salad. She then proceeded to go in the bank kitchen area and brought the taco salad out anyway about 15 minutes later. The waitress asked me if there's anything else I would like since I always told her I did not want the taco salad. I said I didn't want to be charged for another meal on top of the taco salad I didn't want since I was paying the whole bill for my family. She said she would take the taco salad off the bill and asked if there's anything else she can get me. I did not eat the taco salad and instead ordered the wings since she said she would take the taco salad off the bill. A different waitress brought the check to our table, which is when I discovered the waitress did not take the taco salad off the bill and flipped her words completely saying it was up to the owner if the taco salad would be removed or not. This waitress went back to the kitchen area with our actual waitress hiding back in the kitchen area to speak with the owner and in turn told us if we did not pay the entire bill, they would call the cops on us. They did indeed call the cops on us. We waited for the police to arrive, and paid the bill as intended. The waitress never even asked for a form of payment after we stated the taco salad should be removed from the bill as she told us it would be. This place has no class and shows no customer appreciation. My young child should not have had to go through that to be crying afraid that the police were going to arrest us all. read more

Such a shame. It used to be awesome here and the food was always very good. For 30 years or so I've been coming here. You order a medium burger and it was cooked perfectly. Now since they remodeled the ambiance is gone and the food is terrible!! Had a burger, asked for it medium, and it was overcooked. This has never happened. The rolls aren't good, and the roast beef was tiny. What was a consistently great restaurant is now terrible. We gave it 2 tries since the remodel and will never go back. Wish they'd go back to how it was as now it looks like a generic bar. Need to improve food quality read more

It's been a few years since I've been in the area, so I wanted to go to my old familiar bar for a burger and some beers. Since moving back to the area, I noticed a lot of changes and improvements, but change isn't always a GOOD thing the last time I was at the Baron, was when it sold, they added credit cards and a fryer, and thatsvwhere it SHOULD have stopped. Apparently the owners gutted and basically created an entirely new establishment. Well let me tell you, they absolutely destroyed what was there. First of all, a Bar should not have BRIGHT white walls. Lime blinding white, the old bar was great where it was. The amount of money spent "improving" the bar was an absolute waste and I doubt they will ever regain it before they sell it off. The Burger was good, but I'll never be back, they killed my watering hole, RIP Baron, you'll be missed... Chang isn't always good, some traditions shouldn't be messed with read more

Note that every review other than mine, is before the underwhelming renovation. The renovation removed all ambience that the Beef Baron had before. And they removed the steering wheel from the front of the house and it's nowhere to be found.!!! I went there a month ago and ordered a cheesesteak and it was quite sizable. But it took almost 45 minutes to get out of the kitchen and that my beer glass was left empty for 20 minutes is beside the point. I went back this evening to get a cheesesteak to share with my mom who is 90. I specifically told the server that I wanted crisp french fries that I lived only two blocks away and to please be sure that they were crispy. About 25 minutes later, after the server had her cigarette outside, she went into the kitchen to retrieve my order. As soon as I open the clamshell Styrofoam box I knew that my french fries had now been steamed. I pointed it out to the server who said "I'll get the kitchen to make more for you." Then I opened the box to see the sandwich I received. It was about half the size of the one that I had a month ago. I looked at the server and said " this isn't what I expected I don't want to pay for any of this". I asked her if the size of the portions changed recently. She said in quite a nasty attitude, well they probably have! And I asked" in the last month? " She said "well yeah. " I ended up getting a refund of $14.40 for my sandwich and the beer that I had while I waited. The last thing I noted is that there were not any locals in the Beef Baron. There were six people in that bar and at least four of them were from out of town. They had said that the local hotels that had recommended that they go there. I'm guessing that the local hotels don't know that the Beef Baron has changed for the worse. I don't think they're gonna stay open very long. And the lighting is so horrible I feel like I'm in an operating room read more

My wife and I are new to the area. We've been trying a lot of different restaurants trying to find a few that we can 'hang out' at. While we've had some good experiences, as well as some bad, last night at the Beef Baron is probably the worst so far. I can't rate the food because I wasn't served. My wife and I entered and were told to find a seat anywhere. And that was it. We waited about 10 minutes sitting at a table by the window, facing the bar. They never acknowledged us and we never even received a menu or ... water. Nothing. There were maybe 11 people in the place and a somber ambiance. On a Saturday night at 6:00 PM. Maybe that's a sign. Regardless, we left after sitting there, dumbfounded that we didn't get served. I will say my wife and joked about the fact that there were no other Asians in the place besides her. Kind of makes my wonder if that is the ultimate vibe that we got. Needless to say, they obviously chose not to serve us. read more

Don't let the exterior push you away. Sure it has only 2 small windows and you can't see outside. I found this gem when looking for a good burger that is not a chain restaurant. They are not using a frozen patty here and it is packed with juices. To top it off, fresh cut fries. I could eat these all day! The crowd is inviting and seems to host a few regulars. If you are looking trend hipster place this is not it. Could it use updating, sure but that would steal the charm soaked in the place. Beer menu is varied enough to cover the big beers but plenty of microbrews also. Was hoping for Spaten on tap but chalk that missed opportunity to COVID supply shortages. My son was moved out of ICU today after a skiing accident which required him to be airlifted to the hospital. His most serious injury is to the brain, but docs are saying the long term prognosis is good. I am from out of town and just needed a homey place, close to the hospital to grab a few beers and dinner. The Beef Baron and women behind the bar delivered. The food is back to above average standards. Fresh cut Fries are now served and it's back to a place that I can frequent with integrity. The heats been driving us out to dine and so since we haven't been here in at least a decade, stopped in on this Saturday lunch hour to order a burger and a beer. Everyone has different expectations on service, food and atmosphere. The cheeseburger at 8 ounces topped with fresh L, T, O, hot peppers was satisfying, cooked well but needed a bun substantial to the big burger. The bun fell apart in five different places and so, had to bite it in segments. It was not seasoned enough for my taste but I'd rather have it less salty than too salty. The fries were fresh cut and nice accompaniment. Although the main bar interior looks like the inside of a cooper barrel, the cook and grill are situated over in widest end of bar, front and center. I read reviews about new management and people commented the old owners used to serve better food but you have to consider new management equals new debt and something has to suffer, FOOD! It's a bar, so that side brings in a nice profit. Oh, and to mention service, SUZANNE , was sure and steady. Also, asked her to split the $$ tip between her and the cook. So where to begin. The drinks were the only good thing about this place. Blue moon from a bottle and not on tap? Okay fine. Water that tastes like seltzer? Whatever. Coke that tastes like diet and the excuse it that's just how it tastes? Umm no. So we decided to stick it out and I got mozzarella sticks. Worst decision ever. They were grilled, soggy, non melted mozzarella sticks. You think we couldn't get much worse, but I guess we were just gluttons for terrible food. My friends got the burger, which were burnt round tasteless discs of we are assuming Beef. I got the Baroness which was their chicken sandwich. Let me say that I was afraid of even eating half of it. It tasted like a piece of rubber that was thrown at the wall several times. It had no flavor whatsoever and I was scared of getting salmonella. We waited 30-45 min to get flavorless food that was inedible. The only pro of this place was the waitress was nice, but it could not get anything above a 1. I had the baroness chicken sandwich with coleslaw. The chicken was cooked to a juicy perfection (not precooked!!) Swiss cheese, bacon, caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato on great bread to top it off. They also have a good selection of beers and great service too! read more

horrible!!! waitress at bar when asked what lite beers they had flicked her finger at me towards a wall board. when I said I could not read it from my angle she proceeded to help another costumer who came in after me. the customer after placing his order pointed to a larger board I could read WOW only 2 why could she say than to me??? ordered my husbands beer and my drink then our food after she had a smoke break while 3 other staff either sat joined her or only 1 helped customers. my chicken sandwich was 4 small pieces of chicken on a roll so dry it was chalky to chew that is what I could chew the rest was grizzly or something nasty. who ever is running this place has destroyed it. not surprised if it closes in 2 months. should have known to turn around and walk out once she flipped her finger at me. The place was empty and I should have heated that as a warning what a shame to take an icon from the city of Allentown and destroy it. By the way, my waitress was the only one that had red hair and she did not have a very personable attitude, except for when she was flirting with the one male customer at the bar. Ah, the Beef Baron. I first came here when I turned 21 back in the day and had a blast (I think!?). As Charly J stated, the inside of this place has completely changed. This place used to be a dark, cramped place but they did a really good job in sprucing it up and making a lot more room to move around. The place is still dimly lit but trust me, it was way worse before. The food is good and solid, - always has been from what I can remember. Burgers are massive, juicy and very good. I ordered the Red Baron burger medium and was barely able to get my mouth around it...barely being the operative word. The menu is pretty inexpensive as a whole. I don't think anything is above $8 or $9. They have a pretty decent (and cheap) beer selection as well - both commercial and microbrews. This is very much a local and unpretentious bar. The bartenders definitely have their regulars who come in and they know exactly what they want. Quick attentive service and definitely no brown-nosing to be found. Maybe we got some really fast service because it was DEAD on a late Sunday afternoon, but hey, I ain't complaining. Decent place, but nothing spectacular. I'd come back again and won't wait another 10 years or so. read more

I like the Beef Baron. However, they need to step up their game a bit, Beer selection is good, burgers are good, the help isn't ! Was there today, actually twice this week. Today, the bar person was a bit inattentive. Spent too much time at the far end of the bar talking to patrons, seemed to know them, on the phone, sharing some phone stuff. A couple comes in, sits at a table, and sits for 15 minutes. Even during that time, the bar person goes to the register and still never looks up. The couple left. I wanted to say something, but didn't. They lost business. Good help is hard to find. Bar person also was not rude but something was a put off to me. She went out to smoke too often too. The food quality has gone downhill over the past few years. My husband and I stopped in for a burger and a couple beers on Saturday 3/26/16. The burger was terrible. The bun was still frozen. The older blonde haired bartender... Who has been our waitress/ bartender before with the same similar crappy attitude... Was simply rude and seemed annoyed that we walked in. There were 7 patrons total in the bar on a Saturday night at 9:00. This is the 3rd time over the past 2 years I have been there and felt this bartender was horribly rude. I took a bunch of friends there for my birthday last year, and my friends commented on how bothered the waitress acted that we were there. I have been a patron for years, but no more.
