We stayed at the Yellowstone lake inn and cabins which was an excellent location. The park has a loop road in a figure eight, very easy to navigate through the signage could use improvement. We were able to see a lot in 2 days but you need to be able to hike to some of the features. A lot can be seen from your car or a short walk. Be prepared to wait! We were there after Labor Day and it wasn't quite as busy as usual but you still had to wait for a parking place. I downloaded a narrated self tour from Viator that was downloaded to my phone. There is no cell service in all of the park but calls by satellite can be made from your phone in case of emergency. GPS does work well but is slow at times. The tour started from any entrance and picked up your location to continue. It also gave you good directions. With so many geysers and geothermal sites to see, pick what you really want the see as much as you can fit in! Almost 500 miles of roadway in the main loop. 1200 geysers, thousands of steam vents, mud pots, thermal pools- you can't possibly see it all! Enjoyed every minute!

(On some maps it was called Town Park or Heritage Park.) Did we almost see Taylor Swift? No, but we DID see Red: A Taylor Swift Tribute Band :-) (Jul 2016). And if what people posted is true that she went to Big Sky (after Manhattan, before California :-), we missed her IRL by only 9 days and 56 miles! The band was great, with excellent vocals. The park was large enough for the crowd. We brought our own camp chairs, and there were a few bleacher seats. Many folks brought picnics, and we had some leftover BBQ from our dinner across the street. Our lodging was just a 2-minute walk, so the youngest of us finished the concert at home, listening through an open window :-)

The West Entrance to Yellowstone National Park was efficient every time we went through. We never…read moreencountered a longer WEEKDAY-delay at the entrance than 15min, on different weekdays approximately 6:30am, 8am, 8:30am, 10:30am, and 11am. (Jul 2026). On the other hand, even when we entered at 6:30am, traffic built up by the time we got to popular locations to the south between the entrance and Old Faithful. Not terribly bad, but enough that we would have started earlier if we could have. Studying traffic apps, it looked like traffic was better entering before 5:30am or maybe even 6am. We never saw bad backups (besides wildlife sightings) going north, or going all the way west between the north and south loops. We never started early enough to see sunrise inside the park. At the entrance, the far right lane was for pre-paid passes. With three other lanes open, the prepaid lane wasnt even twice as fast as the others. It was around two-cars faster when the other lanes were 6 or 8 cars. Pretty efficient. And they give you a useful park map, though you can buy more detailed maps and guidebooks at the park's visitors centers and around town. We used the free ones :-) We felt that the NPS app had info that's easier to access than their website. And believe it when they say cell service is limited to the major sights and visitor centers. Even GPS was spotty. So, after our first couple hours in the park, we made a point to download maps and info before the next leg of the trip, and on the second time in, we downloaded the night before.

Its pricey in August. We paid $147/nite for a back-in site. Was it worth it? We like to think…read moreso. It's a well maintained rv park. All sites are spacious and very clean. The office and store are opened each night till 9 pm! All the mechanicals for hooking up your rv's utilities are all ergonomically configured. Nice space, nice picnic tables. Some premium pull thrus have cabannas and a little larger green footprints. On the minus side - we were a little surprised theres no swimming pool. But my one and only one real disappointment was finding the men's showers were not completely private. I presume same for the women's showers. For the high-end resort price charged, that I found to be less than expected. If the price charged was $70-$80/nite, then maybe that's ok. But we paid a premium rate of $147/nite with showers that were only partially private. I think thats a big miss. But that one miss opportunity aside, the mgt is great. The place is beautiful. The rv sites are very nice. And the convenience of its location is second to none. Less than 1 mi to Yellowstone NP's west entrance! That huge when considering how far you must travel once you are inside the park. And convenient to all the shopping and restaurants in West Yellowstone!! That just can't be beat!! We had a most lovely time!! Would we come back and stay at this rv park? Probably we would. For all the reasons stated above.

Unfortunately, I am extremely disappointed with how Yellowstone Grizzly RV Park handled our…read morefamily's medical emergency. We had planned this trip to Yellowstone as a special family vacation and were so excited to make these memories together. Shortly after arriving, our 13-month-old son, who has complex medical needs, began having significant difficulty with the elevation. His oxygen levels became so low that we ultimately had to call 911, and he was transported by ambulance to a hospital approximately 1.5 hours away. Obviously, at that point, continuing our vacation was no longer an option. We contacted Yellowstone Grizzly RV Park, explained exactly what was happening, and asked if they would consider refunding or even crediting the unused nights of our stay because we were being forced to leave due to a genuine medical emergency. Their response expressed sympathy for our son, but they still refused to make any exception whatsoever to their cancellation policy. No refund. No credit for the unused nights. I completely understand businesses having cancellation policies. However, there is a tremendous difference between someone simply changing their plans and a family having to leave because their baby is being transported by ambulance to a hospital. What makes this especially disappointing is that their email said they would "love the opportunity to welcome your family back" and "do something special" for us if we return. After refusing to even credit the nights we could not use because our child required emergency medical care, I cannot imagine feeling comfortable booking another stay. The RV park itself may be beautiful and conveniently located, but families should be aware of how strictly this cancellation policy is enforced, even in a documented medical emergency involving a child and an ambulance transport. We certainly did not choose to end our vacation this way. We would have much rather spent those nights making memories at Yellowstone than sitting in an emergency room worried about our son. I sincerely hope management reconsiders how genuine medical emergencies are handled in the future. Compassion in an email is appreciated, but compassion in a policy when a family is facing an actual emergency would mean much more.

Our family had so much fun experiencing this part of Yellowstone by water. We're all from a big…read morecity and aren't particularly outdoorsy but our guide Jason made us feel comfortable in our kayaks as he explained how best to paddle and navigate through the water. Jason kept our attention as we kayaked with his knowledge of the Yellowstone area and some of its history. We were able to admire the fantastic natural thermal formations that the park is so famous for. There are some very beautiful steam vents and caves just along the water! Towards the end of your tour, we were treated to a killer picnic along the shore that we enjoyed very much. Thanks so much again to Prismatic Tours for guiding us along Yellowstone Lake!

Great location | lots of trees | popular campground…read more We stayed here one night while we visited Yellowstone. We're continuing our trip south to the Tetons, so this was the perfect stop for the night. Quick and easy check in at the front entrance. Our site was 83, which fits a 24ft campervan. We had to use the levelers but no problem. There is a picnic table and fire pit. This site is close to the road, but we didn't mind because we put on the white noise machine to let our toddler sleep better. Showers was a big morale boost. The facility is right outside of the campground, and they give you two free showers. The facility is big and well maintained. There is also a room to do laundry. See the cashier at the laundry room to access the shower section. They will mark your free shower and buzz you in. Site 83 is across from the trash bin. We were not too far from a couple bathrooms. Our site did not have any hookups. Plenty of shade since there are tons of trees. Bear lockers provided and wildlife are definitely around. Close to the general store and Grant lake village restaurant. Would come back here next time!

This was my first time camping, and I was definitely nervous going in -- but overall, the…read moreexperience at Grant Campground was great! It's a busy campground, and we were lucky to snag a last-minute reservation about a week out. We stayed in site G221. The campground is well-run: there's shared bear storage (though we opted to keep all food and scented items, including water, in our car), the fire pit was great for evenings, the bathrooms were decent, and the dishwashing room was sufficient for basic cleanup. That said, there are a couple of drawbacks. The campsites are quite close to each other, so there's not much privacy. Also, the shower hours are limited -- open only from about 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. -- which was tough since we were often out before dawn and back after 9. And yes, bears are very much around -- one even came through the G loop during the night while we were there. Despite those few things, I'd definitely recommend Grant if you're looking for a convenient base in Yellowstone

We were able to get reservations through recreation.com for two consecutive nights at Lewis Lake for late Sept, 2024 about a month out -- but they were for two different sites. Location. We visited Grand Teton National Park immediately before coming into Yellowstone (YS) so, being on the southern entrance to YS, Lewis Lake was convenient for our first night in YS. However, we underestimated the size of YS, and Lewis Lake was about an hour or more from other major attractions (Old Faithful, Mammoth, canyons and waterfalls), etc). The campground is at an elevation of 7,800'. It is not lakefront, but the lake and boat ramp were only a short walking distance away. Sites. The campground is intended for vehicles 25' or under. Most of the campers while we were there were in Class B RVs or tents. The sites were quite close together, which encouraged some conversation amongst campers but trees also provided some privacy. Each site had a picnic table, fire ring (but fires weren't allowed), and a bear box. There are shared vault toilets, water spigots, and a trash receptacle. The campground doesn't have showers, a dump station, strong cell signals, nor much open sun for solar panels. Finally, park staff were friendly and efficient, and made sure to ensure that campers were aware of the need to be "bear aware." The campground was quiet. And, it was a great value at $20/night without a reservation fee. Using my husband's NPS Interagency Senior Pass brought the fee down to only $10/night.

Lewis Lake Review We stayed here for two nights in September…read more2020. The check in process is first come first served. You arrive at the campground and grab a reservation slip near the entrance and then drive around looking for an open campsite or a marker that has the current date, meaning someone will be checking out later that day (check out is at 10am). Once you get a spot, fill out the bottom portion of the reservation slip with your car information and other details about the length of your stay. Place the bottom part on the marker and drop off some chairs to visibly reserve the site. Then, drive down to the entrance and fill out the rest of the slip with information and put exact cash in the envelope before dropping it in the mailbox. We arrived close to 8:45am on a Thursday and snagged one of the very last spots. It was a bit stressful if I'm being honest as you see other cars driving around and people running around trying to get a spot before you. We stayed at site A-74 which felt fairly private. The sites include a picnic table, fire pit, and bear box. I wouldn't recommend it if you have a large vehicle as parking was tight at this particular location. Also, the area to pitch your tent was on a slight hill. There are vault toilets nearby and a spigot for potable water close to the end of the A Loop. Note, there is no cell service in this area (which is pretty much true for most of the entire park). It is somewhat a far drive from most of the main attractions in the park, but a good spot if you're coming or going to Grand Teton.
