We are soup people - well, I became one after marrying my husband last year - and also empty nesters who live in a rural area, about a half hour from most restaurants. So, we were excited when we came across Beehive Meals, because we don't have to cook quite as much. We have a small portable electronic freezer that we take on trips that we use for our soups. It's so easy to pick one that we're in the mood to eat, plop it in our Instant Pot on the slow cooker setting a couple of hours before lunch or dinner and open the lid to homemade goodness. We really like the variety, too. I have read reviews where people say they aren't flavorful enough. Just make sure to scrape the seasonings out of the corner of the bag where they tend to settle. read more

Some of the meals are good, but it is so overpriced for what you actually get. I made a roast meal today that was supposed to be for six people. The calorie count per serving was 220 calories. In what universe is that a meal? Most meat should have a serving size of at least 3-4 ounces. To feed 6 people you need 18-24 ounces. The meal today had far less than half of that and an about a teaspoon per person of vegetables. If they wanted to be honest, it should be called beehive side dishes or beehive snacks. In no reality can you call any of these pre-packaged things a meal. It's way easier and more cost efficient to buy a main dish from Costco and add your own sides. read more

Very slow shipping and dishonest communications. I ordered a time-sensitive food gift on 2/19. Didn't hear anything until a week later - 2/25 - when they claimed that UPS had asked them not to ship anything because of poor weather. How ridiculous! I checked UPS and there were no delivery alerts and on the face of it, when does UPS ask businesses NOT TO SHIP?? The gift finally shipped on 3/2 - ELEVEN days after ordered. It arrived on 3/4 - 13 days after ordering. So - non-existent communications for a full week and then insulting (for the dishonesty) communications trying to cover for the delay. read more

The 5-6 serving package barely offers 4 servings. The packages state 3/4 C per serving. (e.g. no way you can serve 5-6 servings with 1.5 chicken breasts.) 2) One or two side dishes + vegetables are a must to make it a full meal for approx 4 people. 3) It's not a dump and go into crockpot for 4-6 hours. Realistically it's approx 3 hours of cooking time so need to start in afternoon, which is inconvenient. 4) When you order, your confirmation email and the box of meals don't have your menu order. You must go onto the website to see what the monthly menu is. 5) Overpriced for the portion size. Overall--the idea is good; but really needs improvement on the portion size and cost. Super slow processing times, same menus, and snarky customer service. Processing times are not as advertised very frustrating. I order the meals to help me prep as a single mom working full time. Recently I called about a late shipment (still not shipped) and the customer service rep gave me a line that adds more time to process. When I asked when it would be shipped the girl continued to tell me "1-3 business days after ordering", rather than do anything or get any information about my order. We've been subscribers on and off for about 9 months. We originally signed up for postpartum meals and really appreciated the gluten-free option. The food is convenient, fairly easy-to-use, and great when you don't want to figure out dinner but... 1. the meals really lack flavor, creativity, and variety. (My freezer right now has about 7 Beehive Meals bags that are basically just chicken breast frozen in a sauce.) 2. A lot of the sauces are really sweet, really salty, really buttery, or really bland. 3. Most require you to cook something to serve the meals over like pasta or rice or it's meat like the sloppy joes or marinara sauce and you have to provide your own accompaniments. 4. The meals are small. We get, on average, 1.5 chicken breasts per meal for 2 people. 5. One of our meals had pork that had been packaged way past its prime. It was green and we had to throw it away. Beehive Meals has made dinners at my house so easy! I no longer stress about what we're eating, going to the store for ingredients, cooking, and cleaning up a huge mess. They've given me back my sanity and time! During the week we have four people in the house (my boyfriend, myself, and my two kids). We purchase the freezer meals for 5-6 people and that feeds the 4 of us with occasional leftovers. Beehive Meals provides the main course, but I add the sides (like a veggie, salad, or rolls). Cooking dinner is so simple now. I grab a dinner from the freezer, pop it in to the crockpot (use a liner for easy cleanup), and turn it on. It slow cooks anywhere from 3 to 6 hours depending on the instructions. If it's a chicken dish, I'll shred it at the end and then pop it back in while I'm finishing the sides. It's so simple and easy....and delicious! Beehive Meals drops the freezer meals off at my house in a black insulated bag (I'll upload pics after my next delivery on the 19th). I purchased 10 meals for a friend having a baby. when I purchased them I had decided I wanted to wait on the subscription , so I cancelled the subscription. In turn cancelled my delivery. So a couple days later i checked on it again and it was still showing cancelled. So I placed a new order, when that order was placed it charged me twice. I did receive two boxes, however that is not what I had ordered. I contacted customer service and they told me there is nothing they can do about it. It is not my fault their system messed up and charged me twice. I shouldn't be stuck with almost $200 more in charges because of it. Especially during the holidays. I'm very disappointed.. read more

A few of the meals had holes in them and were leaking meat juice and sauce onto all the other meals. I had to rip the meals apart to separate them (because they were stuck together with sauce) and fit them in my freezer which I am hoping didn't make more holes. When I first started getting beehive meals I really enjoyed them I especially enjoyed the fact that I could substitute out meals that my family would not eat or enjoy especially as a mom with kids who can be picky. However now that they have changed their delivery system now I'm unable to swap out these meals and sometimes I'm left with meals that I have to donate which makes this service less cost-effective for me and my family. They seemed very communicative at first (I'm talking very responsive with emails back and forth), but once I asked a simple question regarding discrepancies with macros I haven't heard anything back. Even if there is no answer right now, they should at least say they are looking into it, especially considering the kind of customer experience this gives off when you're very responsive one minute and no longer responsive right after a discrepancy is raised. Even if the timing is just a coincidence there should be enough self-awareness on their part to see how this looks. Disappointed in these. I have seen a lot of influencers rave about these and I'm just kind of confused. They all taste the same and they all end up as mush. I think because all the ingredients are frozen and then cooked together the quality is just poor. Also, almost every single meal ends up with a layer of grease/oil across the top. I really want to like Beehive. It's extremely convenient and I like using my crock pot and providing my own sides. With that said, far too many of the meals center around shredded chicken. "Shredded chicken with a sugar chicken sauce" pretty much sums up the average meal you get from Beehive. The chicken noodle soup is inedible and we skip months when it is on the menu. Veggie Mac This is our 3rd Beehive meal. Pretty goo Directions say use 3 quart crockpot but does not indicate how much water. So assuming 3 Quarts, stirred contents in 3 quarts of water. After 2 hours on low in the crockpot pot...only slightly warm and obviously far too diluted to be useful. Will continue with elbow pasta as instructed but at this point we will probably go out and order a pizza. Won't post this until we finish with the poor directions and hope for the best. I found Beehive Meals through an ad and am so glad it targeted me - I ordered for the first time last month and am so pleased. I am a busy mom and professional, so when I forget to plan ahead for dinner, I throw one of these prepped meals in the crockpot and have a fresh, healthy, delicious meal made with real ingredients (and printed on the label which I appreciate!) for less than takeout or eating out. The portions are very large and even for my hungry family we usually have plenty of leftovers which is awesome. Plus, the best part: they deliver!! Other meal prep companies don't offer this and you have to go pickup but with Beehive you just put a cooler out on your porch and they drop off all the meals contact-free and then you put in your freezer. It would say on the bag that there were three or four servings of one and a half cups, but we would maybe get 3 cups total out of the whole meal. That's my biggest complaint. I love the idea. We are a family of four since I have a daughter in college. Me and my husband, then a 13,10 year old. So I thought I'll pick the 3-4 servings package since I have a really picky son. Now I understand that it's not a complete meal. I did the bang bang chicken for my first meal. I was SHOCKED when I took it out of the package and put it in my crockpot. It was one chicken breast total. How is one chicken breast supposed to feed 3 to 4 people. Also chicken cooks down and its weight when cooked. It did not even feed me, my husband and my 13 year old. I will say the chicken and sauce were delicious. But I had to run to the grocery store and buy more chicken to put in the meal. I contacted customer service about my experience and told them how disappointed I was and they offered me a $25 gift card on my next order. That is all they did. Their customer service is just as bad as their portion sizing. They stated they go by USDA's recommendation which is .25 of a pound or 4 ounces of meat per person for dinner. That is not realistic. It is not stated on their website anywhere the customer service rep gave me this information. I looked all through their website and that is not stated, if that would've been stated I would've gone for the bigger package the 5 to 6 person meal since it was $30 more. I now have meals for two people instead of three and four people, and I now have to go buy more food to go with the nails that I've already purchased to make a dinner for my family and it ended up costing me more money. I really enjoy cooking so I was hesitant to try Beehive Meals as I am picky on flavor and cuts of meat. I have enjoyed cooking these meals as a supplement to always having to cook a full dinner. It's nice to pull it out of the freezer and put it in the crockpot and let it cook during the day. We usually will add pasta, rice or whatever suggestion for each meal along with fresh fruit and vegetables. The serving size allows for us to have leftovers for a couple days which gives us a break from cooking as well.
