Having craft beer knowledge is not that different from having a wine background when considering food pairings. When I introduced my foodie friend to a world outside of Coors Light and similarly boring beers a month ago, we have visited a significant amount of distributors ranging from Brooklyn to Port Jeffetson. All in the name of finding that genre of beer that is most appealing to our tastes. These days, there is so much craft beer on the market, deciphering through all of the choices is time consuming as to seeking out particular bottles and can get expensive to the seekers. The initial welcome greeting I got from the owner of The Beer Garden was genuine, in that he laid his business and customer relations intentions out to me. Whatever we need, just ask. "I want you guys as my customers for a long time, anything you need, questions you might have, just ask" He walked us aisle by alsle, recommending some and pointing out the over bought, over hyped beers. After a few bottles were in hand, I left to enjoy the banana bread stout, double chocolate stout, Bells: Two Hearted ale. Amazing selections mixed with attentive customer service. As someone who doesn't like beer, I love this place. They have a great selection of ciders, and even sodas and other fun stuff like fruity shots as well. I've brought some friends here and they've all found beers that they like. Brian (the owner) is super friendly. Visited this place finally this past weekend after a couple months of wanting to make the trip but not. We got a parking space right in front on Sunday (no meter!) so that was great. This place is a bit smaller than the Triboro distributer in Astoria, but had a great selection of beers (domestic, imported, and craft options) as well as cider. The staff member was super helpful. I typically know what I like but my friends were uncertain and he walked them around picking out options and so far they've loved the 2 they tried. I am really excited to try the things I bought and will definitely go back. His prices seem to be a bit higher than what is listed for the same things online, but he's a small business and it's covid so I guess that's okay. I paid $120 for 5 4-packs + one specialty 16oz beer so that's a bit steep. Some things I'm most excited to try: bourbon barrel brewed stout with earl grey tea lavender cider maple cider a couple of pastry ales chocolate stout They also have crabbies! The best neighborhood beer store! Brian is the man. He's knowledgeable and extremely friendly. He's always down to give you the best deal possible. I came here when i needed a few cases of Coronas + Coors for a family party. He literally wrote the prices down on a card and told me when it was best to get it. He also said he sells ice! They know what customer service is all about. My good friend and I were having a fun Thursday night and happened to run out of Blue Moon. And not just any Blue Moon, Cinnamon Horchata and Spiced Chai Ale. We decided to give Beer Garden a call to make sure they were still open (9:06 on a Thursday night isn't exactly a turn up session for everybody). When our call was answered we were informed that they normally closed at 8 but they were still around and even offered to stay until we got there as long as we were close. We of course jumped at that opportunity and told them we would be there in 15 minutes. My friend and I then made sure we would be there within the 15 minutes. Upon arrival (we made it there in 9 minutes) we were so amazingly pleased to know that our 12 pack was placed in the freezer for safe and cold keeping. I don't know about you, but this level of service made me feel like an incredibly valued customer. They have definitely made a loyal patron out of my friend and I. Been meaning to stop by this place and today I happened to be in the area -- yet another treasure of Queens, NYC. This store is for the discerning beer drinker, stocking not only the normal cheap fare but an impressive collection of some very exquisite and unique items you're not likely to find at any local supermarket. It was my first time visiting, but the proprietor welcomed me like a regular customer and gave me a guided tour of his collection of stouts -- so many good ones to choose from. My one point of concern for the budget-conscious is that NONE of the products had any price tags -- so you're necessarily reliant upon the owner to inform you. I've been coming to Beer Garden for many years, and Brian never let me down. He really knows beer, and I have tried many great ales on his recommendation. As a matter of fact, I quit alcohol 8 years ago but still come to Brian for non-alcoholic beer (Clausthaler, he always has 2 varieties). This is a great place to find your out of the ordinary beers from around the world at decent prices. A friend was visiting from South America, he's a Austrian Ex-Pat living down south and hadn't been to his home in Austria in 15 years. This place had one of his have Austrian beers, Stiegel, so two packs were purchased for his arrival. Needless to say, they were gone in two days!! First time visiting this beer garden and the owner was really nice and helpful. He went out of his way to help us out as we were trying to get some beers last minute to meet up with friends. This store is the pinnacle of customer service. I always go over to the beer garden (we call it Brian's because that's the man behind the counter) and he is always ready to tell you about what is new and local. Today sealed my loyalty as a customer. I had gotten a box that had a hole in it, and two big growler type bottles crashed and splattered all over the sidewalk. I called Brian up and explained the situation. He said to come on back and show him the top of the bottle unopened. He replaced both bottles for FREE. What a nice guy. I'm going to echo what at least one other reviewer stated. I've lived in the neighborhood for the last 4 years and have driven past Beer Garden so often, I've often made a mental note to check it out, only to continually forget said mental note. I finally checked it out this past Wednesday and was immediately pleased with my decision. As soon as I walked in I was jovially greeted by Brian and encouraged to ask for assistance in locating any beer I was seeking. Once I did, he instantly left the counter and guided me to the Newcastle Ale I had been searching for, for weeks in Queens. He even offered to open up a warm 12 pack so he could switch out 6 of them for 6 cold ones he had left in the fridge. After that, I casually mentioned being a Guinness fan and that I might come back to pick some up another day. Brian then walked me over to the shelf where I encountered two new versions of Guinness I never even knew existed. After I paid, we exchanged handshakes and names while I let him know he had a new return customer. I left pleased that even being in a less fashionable area didn't induce Beer Garden to cut corners on customer service. The kicker for me was earlier tonight when I finally returned for that Guinness I had mentioned. As soon as Brian saw me he greeted me by name and we continued our discussion about the different varieties of Guinness. I was even more impressed by his attention to detail and apparent concern for customer satisfaction. It is very great to have a source like this spot to explore the vast beer market and discover a new beer or simply find a specialty beer of your preference. The shop separates itself because of the manager, Brian, whose amiable demeanor in an otherwise unsavory area, makes picking up a 6 pack for the evening less of a chore and more of an adventure. You will find your seasonals as well as imports from Denmark, Caribbean, Asia etc. There are larger beer distributors out there, but the choices can be overwhelming. Here, the selection is just right with enough rotating, restocked and standard options on the shelf. Very easy to get to (about 1/4 mile West from the Hillside ave exit on the Van Wyck).
