There are softball fields, a kids play grounds, plenty of hiking trails and a beautiful large lake and dock. We spent a few hours hiking the trails. They are well maintained and the views are breath taking. The lake is large and beautiful and looks to house several species of fish. There is a board walk and two floating docks on each side for shore fishing. We plan to come back with our kayaks for a day of fishing. There are picnic tables and a few BBQ grills. Perhaps a picnic lunch and then kayaking. The park is dog friendly with a leash. Lots of people walking and enjoying the quiet scenery and fall weather. You won't want to pass up West Ashley Park.

The park is very pet-friendly, with wide trails, open spaces, and plenty of room to walk, sniff, and explore. We love coming here in the winter months because it's much less crowded, which makes it perfect for letting our dog, Luna, really enjoy herself without a lot of distractions. She gets to explore at her own pace, and we get a peaceful, relaxing walk. Another nice bonus is the cost--it's only $2 per person to enter, which is very reasonable for how much space and how well-maintained the park is. We have the Charleston County Park Pass, so we don't pay anything to get in, making it an easy go-to spot for regular visits. The trails are well-kept, there's a great mix of wooded areas and open space, and it never feels overly busy during the cooler seasons. Highly recommend if you're looking for a quiet, dog-friendly park, especially in the fall and winter when the crowds thin out.

There are three playground sets, two adult swings, two baby swings, a basketball hoop, large field area, hopscotch and rocking horses. The equipment was hot since there isn't a whole lot of shade, but it didn't stop my kid from going down the slide six hundred times. There were quite a few ant hills around the "wall" of each jungle gym set, so be cautious. I got bit a couple times. I didn't really see any bugs in the mulch. I'll probably come back here with my daughter sometime since it's not too far away.

There are 3 different playground sets that will work for a variety of ages. They also have some metal "rocking" horses, swings and a nice big grassy area for running around. There are trees, but not enough to shade the equipment. Unfortunately, no toilets. Absolutely no kids anywhere to be seen, not sure if that's a good or bad thing. Overall it was just okay. It's not worth going out of your way for, but if you live nearby I think it's a good hidden spot.

My most recent visit was for two days of volunteer work with my running club, which hosts a race that begins and ends in the park. Cannon Park's most prominent feature is the raised platform with four columns, which are the last remnants of the old Charleston Museum that burned down in 1981. Lately, people have used sidewalk chalk to write inspirational quotes and positive messages on the columns. For dog parents, Cannon Park is the place to go. Your pups will meet plenty of other pups to social with, as this seems like Charleston's token dog park. I'm not sure if dogs are supposed to be off leash in this park or not, but they often are. The park has doggy bags and waste receptacles, but watch your step as not everyone cleans up. I almost slipped stepping into a few holes as well, and I wish the city would give the park some TLC and level those so no one gets hurt. The park has a small playground, which is shaded but the equipment looks like it's seen better days. Although the Charleston City Parks website claims the park has wifi, it is spotty at best, so I wouldn't count on it. If you're hungry or thirsty while in the park, there's a Walgreens and a gas station very close by. This simple park doesn't have a huge tourist draw, which could be a plus. Since it's so close to the hospitals, it's the perfect place to go for a walk for some fresh air and a little escape from the medical community.

There is plenty of green space here and room to breathe and run around. This is a great place to come in the middle of the day as there is plenty of availability to park and enjoy everything.
