It was about 5:30 p.m. in early March on a Saturday and the sun was still out when I called them from the nearest home, about a half mile hike from my vehicle. My vehicle was stuck in snow. They said because of the distance it would take them 1.5 hours to 2 hours to show up. The reality is that I was a 34 minute drive from the headquarters, according to Google Maps. They didn't give me any sense of how much the service would cost. By the time they showed up, around 6:45 p.m., it was cold and dark. It wasn't strange weather conditions though -- it wasn't raining, snowing, and the temperature was just under freezing, if I recall correctly. We had no access to cell service where we were located or once we left the house so we couldn't call around for other choices. The head office had radio service with their truck driver. The truck driver told me it took him 20 minutes to get to the site from his previous job. The office said, through the truck driver, service would be $340. We tried to bargain with them. They declined. All they did for actual work was use a winch to pull the vehicle out of the off road patch of snow, which took about 10 minutes or less.

A New York State Trooper quickly responded and called for a tow truck, as the truck was obstructing traffic. Sam's Towing and Recovery responded and towed the truck with the tow dolly attached 7/10ths of a mile to their yard. They first attempted to charge me $356 (cash only), but after I complained to a New York State Police supervisor, they dropped it down to $324 (cash only). I find it outrageous that a tow truck company which is part of the New York State Police's Rotation Tow Program is allowed to rip off people who have the misfortune to break down on Route 17 in Sullivan County.

They wouldn't even drive me the 1 mile round trip to the Bank of America ATM to get cash... I had to walk. Needless to say, I wouldn't let them work on my car (As it turns out, the problem was a bad fuel pump). Instead, I had it towed to Rea Ford's Service Department in Monticello, who sent a tow truck from Monticello to Liberty to pick the car up. This place did my alignment and told me I needed a tie rod end which was ordered and shipped to…read morethem. They told me to come back and all will be completed. Went back in and it was found that the previous service to fix my exhaust holes that cost me $546 was not done so my wife sat there for almost 4 hours waiting for what was supposed to be a quick thing. They replaced the tie rod end and I felt like it was pulling slightly but possibly angle of the road. Few hundred miles later I noticed my tire wear very quickly on the outside edge. Soon after the other side same outside edge. I now have to put new tires on and these tires are onky a few months old and less then 5000 miles in total and less then 1000 miles since the service. I call setup appointment to get new tires in and back to this garage for alignment under warranty. Dont hassle about new tires mistakes happen etc. After there they say their wheel alignment machine is stuck and cant do the car. No call or cancelations on their part just wait until im there to deliver the news. Call back today and same issue so I ask can i bring it elsewhere and you cover the alignment? Your closed the next 2 days and I need my vehicle. I now have to drive my car with new tires and be destroyed very rapidly or rwnt a vehicle or cancel all my plans and wait for them to make good. For me this garage was going to be my main shop and now like many before I will never ever use or go to. I did not complain about the high prices or that the parts they had to order for me which are double the price and from the same place I coukd walk into and order them from but for cheaper..they made over $750 just ordering parts from Napa that took a week that I could have just went and picked them up. My exhaust leaks cost $546 i coukd have gotten a brand new deal full exhaust for that if I ordered it and not them with the huge markup price. No complaints at all until now with the games. Of course my vehicle is new and had less than 30,000 mi on it. But what disappointed me is that I asked them to pop my windshield wipers on for me. And they charged me $34 an hour's worth of Labor to do something that took less than 5 minutes. I was very disappointed by that. It's not that I can't afford it but I am in my '60s.
