Small but to the point - the massages I get vary from place to place but they usually follow one of 2 or 3 patterns. I like the way they handle my legs and feet here more than some others as they don't press down on my legs with their thumbs where it hurts. The older lady here is my favorite as she doesn't press too hard or too soft, and gives me the full hour routine. The younger guy presses a little too hard for me but he does fine for my SO. Oh my, are we GLAD we did!!!! This establishment will become a staple of future trips to Austin for us, and I even said during my AMAZING massage (which I had with my wife in the room with the two beds which I uploaded a picture I went back in and took), that I want to install a helicopter pad on this place so we can stop by from Houston! My wife said that her paychecks would go here (and since they are so reasonable, it wouldn't be too much of her paycheck) if we lived here. Don't let the staff who can't speak English discourage you from coming here. The reviews are pretty accurate on this post. Your experience will vary each visit depending on who you get. It's a no frills, no privacy type of place but it's also cheap! If you are looking for a customized experience based on your needs then this is probably not for you. The foot massage is the best and what I would definitely recommend. They focus a lot on your arches and into your calves. I usually start to fall asleep by the time they get to my second leg. The pressure for each therapist tends to be deeper which I personally enjoy. English tends to be a limited more limited so keep that in mind. Overall I will be back again. read more

Had a back and foot 60 minute massage yesterday. Masseuse was David. I had reconstructive surgery on my foot and ankle, and initially went to have a foot massage. In the first session, I gained considerable additional flexibility and reduced pain. I've now gone for four sessions. All with David. The previous 3 were focused on my ankles and feet. Yesterday, I have 30 minutes on my feet (excellent) and 30 minutes on my back--which was very tight and sore after two long car rides and lots of outdoor activities. My back massage was one of the best--if not the very best-I've ever had. I appreciate an aggressive massage to work out any tension and soreness. I was way overdo for a traditional massage, so I came here and was not disappointed. I called ahead to make an appt, since Covid they are only open until 8:30PM. I believe the owner did my massage, since she stopped a few times to answer the phone, but it was perfect. Firm, but not painful. I feel like I can breath again! My back and rib cage were so tight. When you first head into the massage room, they have you place your feet in a tub of hot water and then lay back on the table leaving your knees bent. This brought my lower back some discomfort, especially as I was left on this position awhile. You stay fully clothed and they cover you with a blanket. Overall the massage was nice. Can't say I notice any long-term benefits as I'm already knotting up again a couple of days later. But in the moment it was a nice atmosphere and very relaxing. All of this would have earned them 4 stars if not for the checkout process. They charge you $2 if you use a card. That is usually a burden borne by the business. OR there's plenty of options nowadays that are free of charge. That can easily be remedied by bringing cash. It's the 20% REQUIRED gratuity that there was no mention of beforehand that got me. I tip for services regardless, but it was not an experience worthy of 20% in my opinion. The business should pay their employees well enough that, again, that burden isn't passed onto the customer. I used to moderately like this place- but now its a hard no go. Recently went for a 60 min massage and instead of a private room- was ushered to a communal-3 person room with minimal privacy. The "stall" was totally open on one side and the other 2 sides were sheets thrown over a clothes line. The masseuse in the "stall" next to me continually bumped my hand because it was that close. Midway through the massage my masseuse whispered something unintelligible to me- I asked him to repeat and still couldn't decipher, I assumed he was asking if I was ok so I just said "yes". Well apparently I approved an additional 15 minutes- which I didn't have time for and had to stop him as I realized it was just taking too long. I wouldn't have minded so much if it was a good massage- but it just was not. He spent probably 15 min just pressing firmly on my back under a scratchy blanket- I had hope for the rest and it just wasn't good- my cat does a better back massage. The blankets, towels, etc are for lack of a better word, gross and the place looks minimally clean. Anyhow, sadly I will never go back. read more

I love this place. The massage is pretty consistent no matter who you get and I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes. In Austin, I've paid full price for tons of horrible massages. At Bejing, you can't beat the price for the massage quality. I go here almost exclusively. They use rose-scented massage lotion and unlike most places, they wipe your skin after the massage. No lotion residue on your clothes. The environment is no frills, but it's dark and the music is pleasant enough. I'm pretty sure one time they played a flute version of Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a Prayer." I DO recommend place for people who: - Want a good massage for a great price - Are OK with their cash-only policy - Don't mind the no frills approach - Understand that they speak very little English - Like heat! The towels and water they use are actually hot, in a good way. - Work out and don't have severe injuries. The massage is firm and percussive. They also help stretch you in some sessions if they notice you're tight. I do NOT recommend this place for people who: - Want a gentle massage. - Have injuries and need a custom massage. - Need to have a conversation with their masseuse. They know very little English. Also it's a shared massage area. Minimal chat is courtesy. - Don't know how to tip. The prices are already beyond discounted for the service you're getting. You should plan to tip about $10-$15. All of their employees have always been very kind to me. I think you get back what you put out at this place. Out of 10 massages, only once did the masseuse massage a bit too firmly. This isn't a glamorous place, as stated in a previous comment but I don't need all the bells and whistles as long as it's a great massage! Unfortunately, my experience here was subpar. My masseuse kept walking away for significant points of time and several times especially in comparison to my friends masseuse. We were right beside each other in between sectioned off curtains. The rags they used to cover the pillows, the bed, and the foot area looked like they had been worn down for a long period of time and needed replacing. The beach towel used to cover us also felt very old and in need of replacing. At the end of the massage, I realized we were also jipped for our 90 minute time by four to five minutes (and this doesn't include the time he walked away for so long). When it was time to pay, you do get charged $2 extra if you pay with card but the man at the desk tried to make us tip 20% when I know i didn't receive 20% service. As he tried to pressure my friend into writing it in, i asked him a few times where does it say we need to tip 20%? And he couldn't answer me. I'm pretty upset because i wanted to find a decent, cheap place while I'm here in Austin but I'll probably need to find somewhere else. read more

You would think that's not a big deal, but there is a convention about these things and a "foot" massage - even at the least expensive level - goes over your entire body. What upset me most was this- I AM HALF CHINESE (I do not look it) AND UNDERSTAND IT. They did not seem to know/I don't know if they would care. When I got across that I wanted an hour and a half massage for 40 bucks (WHAT?!?!) I was led into an EXTREMELY dark back room. This place isn't private, ya'll. It's not peaceful. I could hear all kinds of awkward things while I was being massaged behind a curtain. I really doubt the cleanliness level. I couldn't see anything and my masseuse just didn't seem to mind that my arm kept caressing her boob on accident. She just... took my bra off without asking. That's cool, I guess. I kind of feel like I would have gotten a happy ending if I was a male. But.. MAN. she massaged EVERYTHING. My arms, legs, back, shoulder.. fingers, head.. everything was so incredibly worked out. She put her fingers in my ears for some reason? Whatever, I rolled with it. This wasn't a wussy "please relax and feel rejuvinated" this was a "I'm going to pound the shit out of your knots until they can't even think about coming back." My legs actually had bruises all up and down them the next day. and I LOVED itt. I sincerely feel that you will not get a more in depth or muscle relaxing massage anywhere else in the area. Now, if you want an experience with good scents and good music and no bugs.... you should probably go somewhere else. Personally? If you want a Swedish girl to make you hot chocolate while dusting you with a feather, this is not your place. If you want an intense massage that requires breathing through where you need it most, amazing techniques (to include slapping and hair pulling mentioned above), and an all around no fluff experience, then here you should find yourself. So, after you pick your born again self back up and wrap your mind around what just happened, get ready to pick your mouth up from the floor when you pay. $30 to $50 depending on your choice - always an hour or an hour and a half. I've now been to Beijing Foot Massage three times--which is enough, in my opinion, to form a solid opinion. The gist: you get what you pay for. Here I get 90 minutes of an eastern approach to a massage (foot/legs/back/shoulders) for a mere $50. If I wanted to splurge and experience a luxurious, lavender-laced spa with 6,000,000 thread count sheets, I would not come here. But I can only afford a place with those high thread count sheets every once in a while. The English spoken by the staff is limited. For example, if you want to negotiate the menu listing of a 90-minute massage which lists as 45 min foot + 45 min back to something more like 30 min foot + 60 min back, you will likely face communication challenges. Whether or not we can call the place clean is somewhat up for debate. The lights are too dim to visually determine cleanliness. Based on smell--meh--they could improve. I'd love to pull up the blankets on the massage tables to see what they're built from. My guess--some plywood anchored on 2"x4"s with a small cushion on top. Not the most comfortable in the world, but they serve the purpose. You may be in an area close to a few other tables, but if you opt for the $50 90-min treatment, you'll be on a table that's in a private area. The sheets/towels seem to be completely clean. The massages here are not for the folks who like low pressure and who shy away from pain. These guys are going to crawl on top of you and use maximum pressure on most parts of your body. You will be sore the next day. If you bruise easily, well, think twice. I love the amount of pressure, knowing that my muscles are really being worked over. Much of the massage is dry pressure/kneading (over clothes). Part of it is shirt off (pants on) with unscented oil. I have never tried to ask for "longer here" or "less here" (like "please don't crack my toes" - I HATE that)--as I fear my request would be lost in translation. Bc it's $50 for 90 minutes, I think I'll shoot for 180 minutes of cheap massage a month. They prefer cash and will harass you a bit if they see cash in your wallet (and you pull out the plastic). read more

I popped in on my lunch break and negotiated down the hour-long foot rub for $30 and instead got a 30 minute quick foot massage for a mere 20 bucks. There's nothing "spa" about this place, but hey, that's probably how they cut out the overhead. I laid down on a table in a communal area, the therapist wiped down my feet with hot towels and then proceeded with 30 minutes of deep tissue massage on my feet. I loved it! Oh, man. I had the crap beaten out of me by a really tiny Asian lady here. And I liked it! One of my friends was visiting from out of town and she wanted to get a foot massage. I used to go to hole-in-the-wall reflexology places when I lived in Houston and so I found this one on Yelp. The lady who massaged me barely spoke English and every time she would leave to get something (e.g., hot towel, lotion), she would give a random part of my body a smack. FOR NO GOOD REASON! It didn't hurt but it was LOUD! So, she got me all relaxed and then ...SMACK!! I guess she didn't want me to fall asleep or something. Then she told me, "Turn, lady!" and I died laughing....so I probably deserved the smacks. You can't beat the price. The foot massage part was the best and most relaxing. My back was a little achy the next day so maybe I will stick to the scalp and foot massage next time (they give you a menu to pick from when you walk in the door). I was a little confused on what to do with my clothes... I asked the guy who walked us back to the massage room but he either was ignoring me or didn't understand me. So, for the ladies, if you get a back massage, take off your top and undergarment but leave your bottom stuff on....make sure if you are wearing pants, you can lift them above your knee. If you have visited a third-world country and paid $5 for an hour massage and then woke up sore the next day...but still would do it all over again because you paid $5 for an hour massage, this place is for you. read more

I am not one for deep tissue massage. I prefer the more soothing gentle or relaxing massage. My technician was Judy, and she was brilliant! This is a fee for service kind of atmosphere. You pay cheaper than a luxury spa, and you get treated like a piece of meat. It's up to you to determine what you want. Me? Won't be coming back. Personal things to be warned about: -Expect to be touched in intimate places. My guy went as far to the curves of my lower lumbars. -Girls, expect to take you shirt and bra off, or else the masseuse (guy or girl) will readily do it for you. -Expect mediocre massages of applied pressures in circular motions. Don't expect to feel 100% revived after this, so mention what you want to focus on early on. -There are private rooms, only go there if you feel comfortable being alone with a stranger. -Don't forget to ask for your belongings back. They did not make an effort to return my valuables, until I asked for it at payment. You guys. Shit just got real. After weeding through the massage places close to home, I finally decided on Beijing Foot Massage. I'll admit, the reviews kind of got me excited -- it was like a personal challenge: could I take the pressure? I decided to take the plunge one day after work when I could no longer tolerate the pain in my neck. I popped in at 4:30 and was taken back right away. Like others have said, you just point at the menu and they will lead you back to a much darker room for the massage (but it wasn't creepy/scary at all.) They had me soak my feet in a basin of water while he worked on my head/neck/shoulders. Then he moved on to me feet/legs. I'll admit, at this point the pressure was pretty intense. But I knew that I needed it and I felt so much relief afterwards. (It was similar to rolfing, if you have experienced that before.) When he started to work on my back, he had my remove my top and unhooked my bra. I mention this because if you are a shy person and this would make you feel uncomfortable, then be prepared to wear loose-fitting clothing. I was still in scrubs from work which is why I had to remove my top. Either way, I was completely covered and he took care to respect my modesty at all times. If you're on the fence, definitely give them a try. For $40 what have you got to lose? read more

Clearly, based on the multitude of positive reviews here, my own experience at Beijing Foot Massage was not normal. But my massage here was so extremely painful, I feel obligated to say something. I have had massages all my life and I have never once wanted any masseuse to lessen the pressure. But that was all I wanted when I visited this place last week. The entire time. The only thing going through my mind the last 30 minutes of my massage was: "This guy must hate my guts." I don't even know how to warn people because all I know of my masseuse was that he was a young man. But if you visit this place and find yourself in total shock early on about the pressure being applied to your body, I honestly recommend politely cutting things short, because the pressure only gets worse. I get massages to help me relax and release tension that builds up in my shoulders due to stress. My experience here just added more tension and when it was over I felt speechless and upset. I love Beijing Foot Massage. With great prices and availability, it's my go-to massage spot in Austin (and that of all my friends). Just know what you are getting into! This is not an Aveda spa. The rooms are communal, but quiet and relaxed. Sometimes there is a minor language barrier but the service is really good. Since there is an easy service menu, with clear pricing, you won't worry if you are overpaying. Each time I go I leave feeling better than I came. This Asian-style foot massage spot just opened a few weeks back in the shopping center at Burnet and Greenlawn where Hillberts, Tuesday Morning, and the UPS store are. A few people on the Allandale neighborhood listserv raved about it, so I convinced my husband to go with me to check it out. We arrived shortly before 9pm (they're open from 10am to 10pm, 7 days a week!) and took advantage of the $25 Happy Hour deal for a 60 minute massage - 15 minutes of head/neck/arms, 30 minutes of feet/calves, and 15 minutes of back. This saves you $5 if you come during the first or last hour of the day. After being greeted in a small waiting area, they walked us by a room with six low massage beds and took us back into a couples room with two beds. It was dimly lit, but super-clean and peaceful. They brought in individual foot baths and had us soak our feet while they began the massage with us laying down. They then did our feet - which was the highlight of the visit - before asking each of us to roll over for the back portion of the massage. If you're used to a Swedish massage, this is different in that everything is done with your clothes on and is a bit more vigorous with speedier movements. My massage therapist used firm pressure, but checked in with me regularly to make sure it was alright. He pushed a little too hard on a super-sensitive spot on my lower back, but quickly changed position when I asked. I didn't go into quite as deep a reverie as I usually do during massages, but that may have had more to do with the novelty of the experience and different massage style than I'm accustomed to. It seems like a family run business with mom, dad and son (?) working when we were there. My husband and I are rooting for them because they seemed super-sweet and put a lot of effort into providing good service. Best $30 I've ever spent. As long as you walk in knowing what to expect, there's no way you're going to be disappointed. There's no need to make an appointment here, however I will say that when I do call ahead (they won't ask for you name or any information if you call to make an 'appointment') I generally end up in the private room. If you don't, you may end up in the shared room with 4 beds in a row next to a stranger BUT you're always covered and no one is looking at you anyway, everyone is too busy relaxing. If you are looking for a more gentle massage, I recommend Linda. I have had other women who sometimes make me cringe in a little bit of pain, but Linda was just the right amount of pressure for a relaxing experience. Also, don't pay with a credit card here. They will accept it sometimes, other times they'll tell you the machine is broken... I always tip at least $10 even for a $30 hour, you won't find a massage this good anywhere in Austin for less than $40! read more
