This place has a few pitfalls that keep me from not purchasing a yearly membership: First off, the wait to get to where you're going can be a bit much. The lines are a bit confusing as it is. They've since simplified it within the 9 months that I have lived here, but it could be even more simpler. Second, the clientele are less than appeasing. I tend to cause like a sailor, but not in public. It gets old. Amenities: + cardio equipment on the top floor + free weights, plate loaded, and selectorized machines on the bottom floor + gym (the floor is lined for basketball, volleyball, pickleball, four-square & shuffleboard) + indoor track + lap pool + locker room + personal trainer available + racquetball courts (2 available... reservations also available) + splash pad + spa (for ages 13 years & up) + sports programs (adult & youth) + studio & wellness classes + turf (soccer, flag football, ultimate frisbee, & golf) + water slides (4' & taller) My girls have participated in the volleyball classes here which were okay, but not very competitive. Just this past weekend (5/6/2023) I took the to the splash area for the first time area. Even though I declined to swim, I was still charged admission ($4 for the entire day). My 8 & 9-year-olds were charged $3 apiece for entry. In the splash area which is completely indoors, there are two sets of bleachers and multiple individual lounge chairs and side tables scattered all around. Free parking.

It's located on the Mills Elementary School campus, but maintained by the City of Hobbs. So it is reclaimed water. Don't drink it! To activate all the water features--including a huge overhead bucket that tips over, pouring cold water onto screaming children--just push down relatively hard on the large yellow button on the northern side. As much as they may want to, tell your kids not to run. My daughter's gooberish friend excitedly ran, slipped, and sliced her leg pretty good on the concrete. Restrooms are nearby. Picnic tables. A gazebo. A small playground. Plenty of street parking or along the fence in the alley. Bring: - towels - sunscreen - foldout chair - bottled water - your phone to do slo-motion water play videos of your crazy kids. Lol.

There are a number of water features that spray, splash, and soak you, so there is something for everyone. Our favorite was the bucket that fills up and then flips to soak those standing below. We took our late lunch, and ate in at one of the covered picnic tables and watched the kids get wet. Okay, I'll be honest I also joined in the fun. No regrets! I'm giving this four stars because it could use a cleaning of the drains, so the water can flow better and the bathrooms also needed some attention. Overall, though, I recommend. I'm from out of town, and I elsewhere in the country we have to pay to use a small splash pad like this one. Impressed!

Zia Cheer is a gymnastics center located in south Hobbs, NM…read more It's near the Boys & Girls Club. On a normal basis, their Facebook page explains that they are "a place where passion meets skill, where every individual, regardless of their starting point, could embrace the joy of cheer & tumbling while improving their abilities." But they also host party events! My future niece had her fifth birthday party here today, February 7, 2026. The hostess was super friendly and accommodating. There was ample parking all around the building. Although I am unsure of all the fees and deposit information, all participating guests had to sign a waiver - or rather their parents signed on their behalf. What a fun place for a kid's birthday party!

Other than an issue I had with some chick in the Pro Shop who was totally clueless and later hung up on me, I have never had any problems with any of the staff here. When I was a kid, I loved taking golf lessons out here. It's always been a nice course. Now that I'm a parent of upper elementary grade students, I've had the pleasure of being around the staff and coaches who facilitate the "First Tee" kid's program. Not only do they stress the importance of fun and fundamentals, but at the end of each session they discuss pillars pertaining to character and sportsmanship like respect and responsibility. My 9-year-old is getting a bit bored with it, but she has learned a lot about this great game. If you're not into golf like many wives seem to be - have a few drinks and apps or a light lunch at the Rockwind Grill. There is indoor and outdoor dining available. Also nearby to keep anti-golfers occupied are the following: + CORE (Center of Recreational Excellence) + Hobbs Veterans Memorial + Lovington Highway Health Walk (concrete walking path parallel to Highway 18) + McAdams Park + New Mexico Junior College + University of the Southwest + Western Heritage Museum and Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame + Zia Park Casino Hotel & Racetrack This course often allows fundraisers throughout the year - so proud of my community for that.

Washington Park is not quite like it used to be when I was younger…read more There has been a major improvement since the 1990s. Still, it's no secret it's in a middle to lower income area. Folks all over town always joke about the south side of town. This amuses me in a number of ways, but I digress... The park is equipped with the following: - Baseball fields - Basketball courts - BBQ grill - Benches - Concrete paths (i mention this for the little ones on their bikes & scooters) - Lights - Little library - Pavilions - Picnic tables - Playground - Restrooms - Shade trees - Soccer field w/bleachers - Softball fields - Swing sets - Volleyball courts (sand) Also visible and a short walk away is Washington Heights Park. It has a splash pad, a smaller playground and picnic tables. Took off a star because of shattered glass near the playground plus there was a group of kids racing across the grass on 4-wheelers & go-karts.

Heizer Park in Hobbs, NM is about the same as it has ever been…read more The city park is located on the southernmost side of town in a somewhat dilapidated neighborhood. There are a few newer additions which is great. Here's what Heizer offers: + basketball courts + baseball field (it's a bit rundown but at least there's a backstop) + BBQ pits + gazebos + playgrounds (one for smaller kids & one for bigger kids) + picnic tables + public restrooms + swings (including one for babies) It's also supposedly dog-friendly, however, I didn't see any dog waste receptacles. The park is decent, no frills, missing artwork & aesthetics, and has some graffiti. On 2/12/2024, though, it was debris-free which is an improvement to how it has been since I was in high school over 20 years ago. The biggest bummer was the decision to close down the nearby Heizer Pool last year. My friends & I had memories there. That's what kids do - make memories for adulthood. Bring back Heizer Pool so the future generations can experience the hot summer sun & dunk our brothers' heads in the water like we did! (No siblings were seriously hurt as a result of said actions.)

Humble Park lies next to the Hobbs Animal Adoption Center and Shelter in Hobbs, NM…read more The public park is near the busy Grimes St, however, there is street parking that allows for a good barrier from the buzzing cars. Humble Pool is also nearby, but to my knowledge the public pool hasn't been open on years so I don't know why it still exists. I like this park because... + playground equipment + picnic tables + sand volleyball court + shade trees + pavillions + bbq grill + restrooms + wide open spaces + leashed dogs allowed (dog waste station with trash can was available) The surrounding area is a bit industrial, but you get past that. My oldest daughter came with me here on January 29, 2026 to check it out. She says it definitely has potential. :) I will also add that it was surprisingly well-maintained - free of trash. I remember walking here with my kindergarten class when I was a teacher at the nearby Jefferson Elementary. Those kids are all grown up and have graduated high school. Sweet memories. Still a fan.

Splash pads are a great alternative to the much more expensive and high maintenance public pools... plus it's FREE! My kids love them especially on those extremely hot dry summers days. The splash pads around here usually have water flowing through them around Memorial Day weekend which is quickly approaching. I knocked off a star because when I first visited on 4.29.2025 some jerk broke one of the nearby picnic tables. It also seems aa though an emblem from the dedication marker to John Derek Taylor has been stolen. It's a theory. I have no reference point - just what it looks like. I went to school and watched Derek play baseball when we were younger. His death was tragic & absolutely shocking. RIP Marine! I had no idea this was dedicated to him so this was a pleasant surprise and I teared up immediately. To that - let's keep it nice and clean. Before you leave, have your kids pick up trash with you and stuff it in a receptacle properly. A playground and several benches are also nearby. I am not sure what shape the restrooms were in or if they are ever open. Ample street parking with two entry points also nearby.
