Honestly, I wish I had a picture of how this coat looked before I dropped it off! It was practically covered in blue ink from a pen spill that somehow ended up seemingly everywhere. I was told by those who witnessed the defaced jacket that the ink would never come out. So, by the time I dropped it off, I hadn't had much hope that it would ever look the same again. Upon returning today, I didn't even recognize it! There is no trace of ink on this jacket! I know the owner had to have worked very hard to produce this result and I'm very thankful! Also, the staff is very kind and welcoming, they made the experience that much better. I've learned that the business is supportive of students (which is always a welcomed phrase for a student to hear). Even though their prices are a bit high, I trusted them with my cleaning after having bad leaving a cleaner in Huntington Woods (which I went to after leaving a cleaner in Birmingham ruined a coat of mine). That Huntington Woods cleaner ruined a shirt of mine by melting a couple of buttons which were mother of pearl and replaced them with a cheap button. I gave that a second chance until they were charging me to dry clean for shirt that can be laundered (which is on the tag). They had no exceptions for my shirts so I left for Belding. Later, I later I found out they are affiliated with the Birmingham cleaner. Unfortunately, with my last order, they ruined a button on my shirt which is also mother of pearl (sounds familiar). Suspiciously, I looked at the bottom corner of my shirt and saw a sticky tag. This tag contains an id (believing to be a customer id) which is what the last cleaners did and this tag is a pain to remove. Sadly, this lead me to believe that they most likely sent out my shirt to be laundered and may be affiliated with the 2 cleaners listed above. Sadly, I need a new cleaner. read more

Belding used to be good, but in the past 12 months, something seriously wrong is going on there. And I've heard Joe (the owner) be an absolute beast by yelling at employees and throwing things (he didn't know I was there), and when there is an issue, he is really smarmy and condescending. Here is thing at this point, maybe 3 years ago, he could back up his rotten attitude that he say he is the best dry cleaner around, but his product is no longer that great, and he isn't the best game around anymore. read more

I have lived in New York city, Washington, DC and Palo Alto, CA and have dressed professionally for 38 years, including the primary issue of custom-made dress shirts. While ordering new custom made shirts from Anthony Rimanelli in Grosse Pointe Woods, (the best custom fine clothier I have ever worked with) he recommended that I take my shirts to Belding Cleaners because they do not apply starch to the shirts they clean. Starching causes shirts to shirk and certainly the chemicals are unhealthy. I was a bit skeptical simply because I was not certain the shirts would have a fine finished look to them. Boy, was I wrong! I cannot begin to tell you the quality of care that this team of professionals apply to their craft in caring for garments. Yes, it is $5 a shirt but the life of the shirts will far exceed the cost of the exceptional care that Belding applies to their craft. Joe is an exceptional small business owner and a member of the community in high standing. He cares about his employees, his business district and the community in which he lives. Ohhhh they are so clutch! I needed my companies table cloths cleaned for our annual conference like in less than 24 hours. There were 9 of them in total. They got it done! If you are OK paying -- literally -- triple what you might pay elsewhere, by all means, use Belding Dry Cleaners. It cost $60 to dry clean three cotton dresses. When I called the owner to ask about this rate, he began (literally) yelling at me, saying, "Listen LADY...we don't have competitors. Our customers have money and aren't afraid to pay for quality!" After hanging up on him because I refused to be yelled at, he called back to harass me. I have never complained about a business before, but...this price and behavior was outrageous. Also, the quality of the dry cleaning was below average -- one dress in particular was very poorly pressed. I honestly believe this guy is bilking the people of Grosse Pointe and taking advantage of their trust. read more

Bravo! I brought my elderly fathers favorite winter coat to Beldings after another (less expensive) dry cleaner refused to clean it. My dad had fallen the week before while wearing his coat and there was quite a lot of blood on the sleeve, up the cuff, etc. The owner said he would do his best to get it cleaned and returned by the following Monday (this was Tues). Better than that, coat was perfectly cleaned and ready for dad by Thursday of that same week! Amazing, not a trace of blood to be found. I would have understood had they not been able to fully clean it, but WOW! I so appreciate the attention to customer care I received from Belding. We live in the neighborhood and I like to help out small business. Given what I do for a living, I no longer need dry cleaning very often but when I do, I know Beldings can be trusted to give you your moneys worth! read more

Be forewarned. This place will SCALP you on alterations. I dropped off two skirts to be hemmed, one unlined cotton dress to be shortened, and two shirts that needed small seam repairs. The bill was $181.00 and the explanation was that they have to make some profit when they use a middleman for alterations. Oh, it also included a men's blazer, which needed button replaced. However, they didn't actually repair that because they could not find matching buttons (but forgot to call me about it, as they promised to do fi they didn't have the buttons.) $35 per item for routine repairs?? Save yourself the money and hassle and go to one of the many other places that can do the job less expensively and more efficiently. My first and last time using this place.
