This is a small luxury Belgian chocolate store located at Grand Central Station. They have a handful of locations around Manhattan. They have a very good variety and the chocolate comes in different flavors, sizes and varieties. You can get truffles, cornets (small cones), bonbons, gianduja, and much more. You can buy gift boxes and mix and match the different chocolates to try them all out. However, the item that I liked the most was their signature item, their Belgian praline. The praline is chocolate filled with hazelnuts and/or almonds and was easily the tastiest one. While the chocolate is rich and high quality, this store is overpriced. Even when you buy them in a box, you'll end up paying at least $3 for a piece of chocolate. The larger boxes are $50-$100. I'm a fan of Neuhaus and their chocolates. They really know how to make some of the creamiest, most decadent bonbons. Had the pleasure of trying some chocolates from one of their Christmas gift boxes and it contained a selection of their classics. Each chocolate box comes with a little foldout paper guide that details out the flavor and fillings (if any) for each chocolate. Even though not all the items depicted come in each box, it's tantalizing to look at all the options. Was able to try their version of Christmas Yule Log and it was good though maybe not as nice as having a piece of real cake. Technically it was wonderful, a crunchy chocolate biscuit coating, a velvety smooth dark chocolate mousse, a slightly tangy passionfruit buttercream, underscored by an almond biscuit sponge. I think maybe in an effort to meld the flavors together (or for shelf stability), the flavors got too light. The dessert would have stood out more if the flavors were punched up a notch. Also you missed the moist spongy cake texture--it was creamy and crunchy and nothing in between. Not a bad attempt at a chocolatier's version though. In Grand Central Terminal the Neuhaus Chocolate store is petite. This has been a favorite of mine where I go often to buy or to pick up my specials that I get as I have my telephone number in their system. Like a loyalty card. While looking at the confections I like to talk to the people who work there. I always like to ask them what bonbon they like on that day or the week. Recently I was given two chocolates on the house and then picked up my favorite "nine" in dark chocolate and also orangettes for a friend. This Neuhaus is a small hole in the wall shop at the corner entrance to Grand Central Station. They are low on selections here and also don't do the try a freebee chocolate custom I am used to at other shops. Don't know if they ran out of tissue wrapping with the small shopping bags you get when you buy, but considering you can pay $50 or $100 for a box of chocolate and having them skipping to save a penny is being real cheap and inconciderate by the shop. read more

I absolutely love love this place!! I didn't have the greatest love for chocolates until I returned to the Grand Central area and saw they were still there. I go in there so much requesting the same item, which at one time, was very scarce and backordered, they now know me by face and what I'm there to purchase. Lately, I've been very lucky wandering into Neuhaus just as they have a new shipment. For those who prefer drug store and Dollar Tree chocolate, step up your game and you'll appreciate it. Although they may be a bit more expensive than franchised chocolates, remember: you get what you pay for! They are well worth it. Treat yourself to a small box of decadent chocolates -- with or without nuts and cream. These chocolates are to die for. Yes, they are extremely pricey, but definitely worth every dollar. Plus, they are just so gorgeously made and melt in your mouth in the most tantalizing way that you feel compelled to make them last for a very, very long time because you just can't justify the extravagance of eating too many in any one sitting. Several friends had said good things about this brand's chocolates. I finally decided to try it out since I pass by it almost every day. But I was not impressed at all. I went to this tiny lovely Grand Central location two days ago. The girl working there was welcoming and helpful. She will ask you questions to have a better idea of your likes and then give you recommendations (although she sounded a little like going through routine tasks...just a little). She also gave out samples, which was nice. I picked 5 or pieces from the case. I liked the smooth texture and the crispness of the chocolate shell. But overall, their chocolates are too sweet for me. Even though I asked the girl if one of the coffee flavored chocolate is sweet, she replied "it's more coffee than sweet". Apparently, we have different opinions on that. The lavender one was tasty. It's kinda special that it's dark chocolate with a hint of lavender fragrance coming afterwards. The coffee truffle was delicious, too. Tasted just like creamy coffee. Again, it would be more delightful if it was less sweet. I do NOT recommend the triangle-shaped Tentation (I may remembered the name wrong), which has praline in it. It was too sweet and didn't have much chocolate flavor. I was a bit disappointed about the chocolates. Maybe I should try their other chocolate products other than the individual ones. read more

A small chocolate store & a bit hard to find if you're inside Grand Central station itself - easier to see from the outside (located on 42nd Street a few doors down from Kenneth Cole & Banana Republic). Big shout out to MADELINE! She's an awesome chocolatier rep for Neuhaus. She greeted me immediately upon entering a few weeks ago - my first time stepping foot into the store. Came in to buy a gift but wasn't exactly sure of what I was looking for. Madeline immediately asked if I had been there before, I said no, & then she offered me to try one of their tasty chocolates behind the glass counter (a big sample size too - not a piece cut in half to save on portion control!). My tummy was satisfied. Still unsure of what to select for my gift, I left the store & came back a few days later. To my sweet surprise, Madeline was working again that day & she remembered meeting me a few days prior. Wow, impressive. I was very happy with my selection - a chocolate sampler of 40 pieces (thin chocolate squared in a variety of flavors) for $25 w/out tax. The box was wrapped nicely & handled well by Emily - store manager - and I was a happy customer. Their chocolate is amazingly smooth and fine, with the perfect melt in your mouth feel. Chocolates sell for $57 a pound - for 5 pieces of chocolate, that came out to $8. Even if you can't afford to buy the pretty chocolates behind the glass, the small $3 bars on the side by the register are the same quality and tastiness - just not as pretty. Today I bought a gift box for a family friend for $25 with about 16 chocolates in it. With Neuhaus' new flagship located less than 10 blocks away on Madison, I can't give the tiny Grand Central location nearly as much love as I would have a year ago. In comparison, this location is shoebox sized, with a much smaller counter of goodies. It also makes browsing awkward, as you have to stand there with the clerks staring at you, and you can't escape, just turn around in a little circle, hopping indecisively. Therefore, its hard for them to be friendly or extroverted without scaring you off. And if they came out from behind the counter, you'd have even less room to stand around and hop indecisively. read more

Just dont get the pieces of marzipan - the ones shaped like fruits, etc. I like marzipan and was happy to buy some in Neuhaus in December. It's not often that I experience absolutely incredible service to the level that I would continue to be a customer of a business even if their product or service was just mediocre. Fortunately Nehaus' chocolates are outstanding as well!! My wife and I were in NYC for our honeymoon and wandered into Grand Central on June 13th only to pass a shop touting the best chocolate truffles in the world. Challenge accepted. Walked in and were warmly greeted. Asked about the truffles and were given two to try. The cocoa powder is rather bitter, but upon biting into the truffle the sweet buttery filling mixes to create a layered flavor that is absolutely wonderful!! My wife preferred a different truffle and we purchased 8 of each. The employee who was helping us (forgive me, but I am horrible with names - she was tall with glasses) was so friendly!! When she found out we were on our honeymoon she handed us some additional chocolates. So unexpected and so greatly appreciated!! My wife mentioned something about ice cream and she said that the location at 52nd & Madison had ice cream. We ended up there a bit after lunch. Thank you so much!! read more

Stopped in the store a few weeks ago to pick up some boxes of chocolate for Christmas. We were greeted by the lovely woman working there, who gave us a brief history of the company and gave us some samples. They were absolutely heavenly (the cookie filled chocolates we sampled were to die for!) so we bought a few boxes for Christmas stocking stuffers. We can't wait for Christmas when we can finally eat them! The store is tiny (tucked in Grand Central along 42nd St-there's a door into it from the street so you don't even have to go into the station), but the selection was very good and service was excellent. A great little chocolate shop outside of Grand Central Station (entrances from both outside and inside). It is a very narrow, small shop, with a great fresh chocolate selection as well as prepackaged gift sets. Friendly staff, who are very knowledgable about the product. Since I work nearby, I stop in from time to time to treat myself. They sell pieces a la carte. I usually get 2-3 and it comes to about $6. It is cheaper to get the prepackaged sets, but it is nice to choose a few for a sweet treat! A few of my favorites are: the Louise, manon, bonbon, and truffles. Neuhaus is the best European chocolatier and has a good offering in healthy dark chocolate with surprising and delicious ingredients: orange, lavender, etc. Their beautiful boxes make for a perfect gift to yourself or your loved ones. Their chocolate doesn't leave a greasy sensation on your palate like the Godiva ones. I love their chocolates much better than Ghirardelli or Lindt chocolates, which are packed in sugar and artificial flavorings. read more

Chocolate covered orange peels. That's pretty much all I have to say. Unless I guess you hate fruit and then maybe you're sitting there thinking ew what is she talking about, orange covered in chocolate? I don't care if you hate anything that comes from a tree, bush, the ground, whatever. TRY THESE. They are amazing. And it's the peel, so it's not really that obnoxiously orangey. I don't even really like oranges. However, it's not just the peels that are amazing, the chocolate quality is fantastic. The bars of chocolate are delicious and some have things in them like hazelnut or raspberry. And unlike other bars where you're wondering if that chunk you just bit in to was really something you were supposed to eat, you can be sure what you're biting in to as they are fully identifiable. A friend who was visiting from Belgium was very surprised that I had never tried these chocolates. So before taking a train out of the city we went into the store and got our own box of 9 chocolates for 24$ with tax, yes it's that pricey. The truffles were amazing, especially the ones with nuts in them. There was also a raspberry cream thing which was fantastic. I don't see myself going here regularly but they are definitely worth the splurge on special occasions. My friend spotted a chocolate which was called Dore, same as my last name and wanted to buy it for me, but the lady working there just gave it to me for free, she also threw in some Bonbons. I was blown away by her pride, care, concern and knowledge about each of the chocolates and the warmth that exudes from her sweet personality. She is professional, respectful and courteous so when the time comes, I would like to steal her as she is exactly the kind of employee who I want to have working with us. As far as the chocolates, I'm a picky chocolate lover. The Neuhaus brand is high quality and some of the best I've ever had - in fact, it's become my favorite. The guy who picked them apparently just threw them into the ballotin every which way. Didn't leave them in the paper holders, didn't even attempt to layer them. Working nearby is dangerous... I basically will go here every day. The dark chocolate orange bar is awesome.. as well as the little truffles I've tried- the dark chocolate with lavender ganache, dark covered marzipan, dark orange peels and then one that was some kind of indian flavor with these pretty crystals on it... anyway, they're all good.
