Originally, I had a great experience here but I had informed them I have extreme dental anxiety. I don't like to talk during exams, and I am often fighting back tears. I went for a cleaning and was very anxious. The hygienist kept talking, and I told her I was not able to talk at the time. She did the cleaning, then told the dentist I was "Not a right fit", and they told me over text message I would have to find another. I apologized for having a panic attack (I was literally fighting tears during the procedure) and they refused to respond. I can't say what went wrong exactly-I was probably a bit short, but also was trying not to calm down. I had previously told them I wanted to have headphones on during the appointment and the hygienist didn't seem to be happy with that. I'm not sure if they were uncomfortable having someone of a different race, but they seemed to ascribe me to a stereotype rather than ask why I was upset or panicking. read more

Dr. Bennett has been the best dentist I have seen since my old general dentist retired. I have seen several local to the Atlanta area but none felt right or comfortable. I originally found her while searching for a dentist local to my second home. Athens is actually halfway between both homes. That works out fairly well. Her staff has always been kind and friendly to me. I am a bit anxious when it comes to my mouth, but she is no nonsense but thorough and gentle. I believe it helps her practice that she was a hygienist first. In fact, my husband and granddaughter will also be seeing her this year. read more

I have struggled with sleep apnea for a long time. Shortly before the Covid-19 outbreak I got a retainer from the dentistry and was scheduled to have it adjusted to suit my needs for sleep apnea. Unfortunately, the pandemic happened and I had been unable to schedule another appointment to have my retainer fixed. I was only able to get in touch with them and be informed that I would be first on their list to see as soon as they were able to re-open. Fast forward a couple months to when they were able to re-open and they kept their word. I was seen on the first day of business. I have not been to sleep yet but I Ha e full confidence that my trouble are over. Long and short of it they kept their word and truly care about their patients and I wish I could give more than five stars. read more

Where to begin..... I broke a molar on a cough drop and needed to get it looked at so I called around and Bella was the only place taking new patients. I went in, they looked at my tooth, said I needed a crown and scheduled me for an appointment to get I done. I expressed anxiety about having dental procedures done so they prescribed me valium to take the morning of the procedure. I got there and I told them the Valium wasn't working and they tried to get me to take another 10mg (which is a dangerous dose for someone who never takes valium) and I started getting a really bad, unprofessional vibe so I told them I didn't feel comfortable having the procedure done there. The receptionist, Paula (also the dentist's sister) chased me, screaming and yelling, into the parking lot. A couple weeks later, I got the most absurd letter/bill I've ever seen in my life. They send me a bill for $600 for doing absolutely nothing. When I called and asked Paula to explain the charges, she was extremely defensive and rude. She claimed that I owed them $600 for two missed appointments which is odd because I showed up for both of my scheduled visits. Paula actually hung up on me. The bottom line? Stay away. Bella is a hick-town dental office from Royston that recently relocated to Athens. Rude, ignorant, country bumpkin people who don't even make their crowns in house. Any dental office that doesn't have a CEREC machine in 2014 isn't much of a dental office. You should be able to leave a dental office if you have a bad feeling about their skill level without being charged hundreds of dollars. I've tried to communicate with the people at Bella to try to resolve this but after getting my third bill with no explanation of what I'm being charged for, I decided to give them an honest review. read more

I was new to Athens in 2012 and I found Dr. Bennett on Angie's List. She had all "A" reviews. I will say that at the time, the dentist and her sister, Paula, the hygienist, were awesome and helped me a lot. Millie made a big mistake and accidentally sprayed cleaner in my mouth and I got very sick. I was scared to go back after that because I felt unsafe if the dental assistant was unable to be more careful when I was in a vulnerable position. Paula did a great job cleaning my teeth and helping me with my medical insurance to get reimbursement of some kind of the NTI-tss recommended for treating my TMJ. The problem is this: (and granted I have not been working with them for a few years obviously), but other people need to know this so it does not happen to them. The NTI-tss is NOT a long term recommended treatment for TMJ. In fact, I am in more pain, have further joint damage and my bite is completely destroyed. It will cost me thousands of dollars in orthodontia, not to mention other treatments, to fix this problem. I have been to seven TMJ specialists in Atlanta, Los Angeles and San Diego who have all confirmed that Dr. Bennett mismanaged my TMJ and should have sent me to a specialist. Extensive research supports these findings. I would love it if Dr. Bennett would do the right thing and provide me with the financial means to get the orthodontia to fix my bite ruined by the NTI-tss she prescribed. I trusted her because she and her sister have TMJ. I can't say what they would have done long term to help me, but it's Millie's fault that I left. I wasn't about to go back to be treated by a dental assistant that could not manage to keep toxic poisons out of my mouth. read more

I originally chose Bella due to all the positive reviews on the internet and was shocked with the treatment I received while there. I purchased a NTI mouth guard in Oct. When I asked for a quote of how much insurance would cover, I was given an elusive answer- they said insurance would cover approx $120. When I paid, they charged me the full $660 up front. I asked them about insurance and I got another indirect answer (something about insurance would be billed later). November rolls around and I still had not heard anything. I contacted my dental insurance and they told us Bella still had not filed a claim. We call and the dentist argues that the type of mouth guard I got is not covered by dental insurance; rather it was covered by medical insurance. They stated they had informed me of this and weren't sure why I was confused. I find this very interesting because if they had planned to file with medical, would they not ask for my medical insurance? They then stated they would try to file it as a normal mouth guard through my dental insurance and see what happens. Now it's December and still have not heard anything back. We called this past week and turns out they received the check from the insurance two weeks prior. I'm still not sure why I had not been contacted and have lost all trust in them at this point. They then stated this past week that they informed me that the mouth guard I purchased couldn't be covered by any insurance. They were extremely defensive and unprofessional. I was overcharged and lied to and have wasted many hours contacting them. The issue is still unresolved and due to their limited business hours (closed Dec 21-Jan 6 for break??) I'm not sure when I'll hear back from them. read more

My granddaughter was a patient at Bella Dentistry. After initial exam and x-rays she was told she had four teeth that needed fillings. Also, she was told that her wisdom teeth needed to be removed very soon. So she had one of he teeth filled and missed a subsequent appointment (a missed appointment fee was paid) and then made another appointment to have the remaining three fillings. The day before, Bella called to confirm the appointment and all was well. On the day of the appointment one hour before the scheduled time, Bella abruptly cancelled the appointment. My granddaughter has since gone to another dentist in Athens and miraculously she only needed ONE filling and was also told her wisdom teeth were normal and posed no immediate threat. read more

Dr Bennett and her staff are very cordial and accommodating. I have had nothing but excellent experiences since I have been a patient. From cleaning to a crown they have been very gentle and avoided any discomfort. The staff takes the hassle out of filing insurance and following up with them.
