My husband and I just dropped our things off at the hotel and needed a place to eat dinner so we headed out on foot a couple of blocks away and found this little place tucking in a corner near some other food places. We were already hungry for pasta after eating very good Italian in St Albans earlier in the week and we were extremely glad we did! We had 2 gentlemen waiting on us, Bogumil was one of them, both were very nice and our appetizer and entrees came out very quickly. Keith had the pasta Bolognese and his bowl was empty at the end of dinner! I had the Mozzarella Pomodoro and I was not able to finish all of it, but I sure tried! I took a picture of our appetizer and my dish, but not our focaccia bread or the Bolognese. If you're looking for some fantastic Italian food and a satisfied stomach, look no further, they fit the bill! There was a little bit of noise from the street, but you walk down a few stairs to get to the seating area. We did hear an emergency vehicle drive by, but the noise in the restaurant wasn't bad at all for being open. I wish we were here a little longer! read more

Food was good, i go to bella italia often so it wasn't too different to what i'm used to. I had the bolognese and my friend had the carbonara. The staff were very friendly. The restaurant seemed quite small but was okay for my table of 2. I did go at an off peak time on a weekday so it was only us and 2 other tables, it might be a little stuffy when full. There is a toilet downstairs however it isn't very nice, one small room with a toilet and a sink and hand dryer outside, but can't complain as i had no issues using it other than the quite steep stairs. read more

What the fuck! Ewww horrible horrible, stay away! Customer service is very disappointing and the food was a joke. We ordered bruschetta at least that's what we thought. It was brought out in what looked like a burnt piece of sandwich bread toast. It was topped with chopped tomatoes which had NO seasoning so bland and distasteful. Next we ordered two pasta dishes which I was too upset to take a picture of. I ordered a rigatoni dish which had pepperoni in it and they actually just threw in whole round pepperonis like you put on your pizza. I understand each restaurant has its own style in the way they present their dishes and the textures within but this was not appetizing. The tomato sauce itself was okay but you can see they added jalapeño just to give it a kick which I have NEVER seen. Jalapeños are a Mexican pepper, what business does it have in this Italian rigatoni dish??? My fiancé ordered a simple pasta and marinara sauce plate and it literally looked like it was made for my dog. Hardly any sauce the pasta was a spiral noodle styl. It that was limp and over cooked to the point where they just looked liked a bunch of swelled up worms. Very disappointing experience and on top of that extremely overpriced for the quality of food. Never going back, not recommending this place to ANYONE! read more

Loved this place on my visit to London! My absolute favorite the pollo pesto gnocchi! It was the best gnocchi I have ever had. The service was great, the food reasonably priced, the restaurant clean and all our dishes were awesome Beef ravioli $12.95', lasagne 10.25, gnocchi 10.95. More of a 3.5* rating. Three of us were wandering the South Ken area in the hope of finding a standard Italian chain restaurant that we could grab a table at for dinner, when we came across this Bella Italia. You know what you're getting with this place really, the same as any other Prezzo or Pizza Express. However this particular restaurant looked so quirky and cute, with a split level floor. We were given a table upstairs that had been reserved for a party who hadn't arrived. The staff didn't appear to communicate well with each other as one waiter approched us to quietly tell us we had taken someone's table and that we couldnt sit there, to which we told him we had been told otherwise. After that minor glitch, our orders were taken. My friend and I both got a cocktail which were pretty tasty. Unfortunately the food took a long time to arrive, presumably because they were so busy. I was feeling extremely hungover so got the fat vegetarian calzone (with chicken) which was huge but I of course managed to eat it all! One friend got the stag bol which was just a standard spag bol and the other friend got the pasta with red wine and beef which she said was a bit too rich. It took quite a long time again to get the bill and pay, but as I said, I will put all of that down to rush hour. Not a bad meal for a Friday night. read more

I worked up a bit of an appetite after wandering around the Science Museum for a few hours, and because it was a bank holiday, it seemed that nearly everything in the area immediately surrounding South Kensington station was closed. I spotted Bella Italia a short walk from the station and thought it would be worth a look considering it is part of a chain. The first problem with this restaurant is that the front door does not shut properly. We were seated in the lower seating area, and nearly every time someone entered or left the restaurant, the door would be stuck wide open letting the crisp 0 degree-day air into the restaurant. The second issue was the service. My boyfriend and I had been seated for nearly 10 minutes before anyone came around to take our order. Since we were quite peckish we ordered some garlic bread as a appetiser in hopes that it would calm or hunger until we received or main. After 30 minutes I was wondering if we were going to get any food, and then our mains arrived. I was a bit miffed that we had not received or garlic bread before the mains, and asked the server to make sure that we were not charged. At that point, she admitted that she had not even put in the order for the garlic bread. The food itself was reasonably tasty. If it had not been for the icy cold blasts of air at regular intervals throughout the meal, and the appalling service, I would have actually given this place a four-star rating. read more

Roomies and I went the other night for dinner. I know service can be a little on the "take your time" side in London but it took two hours for three of us to finish a meal of one shared appetizer (bread basket with spinach) and an entree each. And trust me, it's not because we're slow eaters. I had the baked sausage pasta and though I ate it like the little food whore I am, upon reflecting back it wasn't very good. Needed more sauce and the meat was less like italian sausage and more like breakfast links cut up and throw in. I didn't realize it was a chain until later. Chains are fine and all that, but they generally don't tend to put the kind of care into dishes that independent venues do. A point which was illustrated here. read more

Our family of 5 dined here on a slow Sunday afternoon around 2pm. Took longer than expected for order to be taken but can live with that. Food took overtly long to be prepared, wife and I asked for our side salad before meal with order and two other times only to have it brought with meal. Maybe they wanted us to experience true Italian dining with salad after entree. Entrees were not good, wife ordered the carbonara, one of her favorite dishes, and was underwhelmed by the flavor. I ordered salmon, it was overcooked, and 4 cheese Mac n cheese which was totally lacking in flavor. To add injury to insult it came to almost $160 usd for 5 entrees, two overpriced garlic dough balls, 2 side salads and tap water. I didn't say anything because I wanted another table spend 30 extra minutes trying to get their bill correct and wanted to move past this awful experience. Maybe we caught them on a bad day or I'm a picky American but I do know that I will not be going back as there are way too many dining options to deal with that again. Best read more

I came here for dinner last night while exploring the neighborhood for local restaurants. First of all, you have to wait so much! I had to wait 10 minutes to get a table in the back part of the loft. And also, I had to wait around 30-45 minutes to get my food. Regardless of the wait, the food was really good! I got spaghetti bolognese and I finished the whole thing, I also got fries/chips and they were really good too. The food was really good but the wait was bad, but after I paid I got a 40% discount for next time. I reccomend this restaurant only when there is not many people there because when its packed you find yourself waiting for around an hour for getting a table and food. read more

5 star food, family friendly, gluten free and inexpensive! Just had lunch there, had chief special gnocchi, GF penne with meatballs and 2 kids menu. The quality of food is absolute top, tender melting in your mouse gnocchi, crispy enough but tender veggies, gf pasta is freshly made and indistinguishable from semolina, even kids meal with ribs and soup/ garlic bread is the serious grown up quality Decor is beautiful and authentic and service is quick, friendly and efficient, our waitress was Italian. Tip- ask for lunch / dinner menus where you get an incredible deal. Kids menus is a great deal for your money too, plus they get some coloring kits that keep them occupied and us sipping our wine in peace. read more

I wanted to love this place. I really did, especially after several weeks of hopping to various pubs. Once can only eat Fish & Chips and Bangers & Mash so many times in a row. So when I convinced the husband to go with me to Bella Italia I could not be more excited. We were promptly greeted at the door by an enthusiastic server. That was about the last time we would hear from the server. We waited over 20 minutes for our drink order to be taken, then we waiting over 40 minutes for a salad and pizza to be served. Stopped in while visiting London to see a friend who lives in the area. We had a pizza app, salad, minestrone, spaghetti and prawns. All was prepared well and quite nice. We sat downstairs in a corner and the service was excellent. The server was basically handling the whole restaurant and was doing an excellent job. Stopping by our table quickly on each trip to the kitchen to make sure we had what we wanted. The prices are reasonable and an overall good experience...fortified by a bottle of good Chianti!! I've only been to Bella Italia a couple of times and it's one of those place las you know what to expect - cheapish food, chain restaurant, quick service, does the job when looking for a quick and easy place to eat. So when my friends and I first walked in, our initial thoughts were, oooh this looks lovely and unlike the other chains and dare we say "authentic" (candle light, Italian music etc). Sadly the excitement ends there. I'll start with the positive as there is only one - the food I ordered was actually really nice (when it eventually arrived). I had the Lasagne al forno - bubbling hot, creamy and cheesy (and a really big portion). The downside - the service was AWFUL. Firstly we didn't understand a word the waitress was saying (really not helpful). We were advised to order pasta rather than pizza as there was currently a delay with food orders and apparently this would be quicker - well that was an erroneous fact! We were also pushed to get olives which we clearly said we didn't want. Next the waiting...we knew there would be a delay but the amount of time we waited was ridiculous. You know point when you start to lose focus and can't even keep a conversation going because you're that hungry - that was the case. So after an extremely long wait, the food finally arrived. Unfortunately, one of my friends was hugely disappointed to find that the wrong meal had arrived - she had ordered chicken and pasta but received salmon! How can you get that so wrong?! And who was to blame? The waitress! She even brought the menu back to point out the salmon dish that my friend allegedly ordered. After a few minutes of arguing her case (she most certainly ordered chicken), the waitress offered to order chicken, but since there was such a long wait the first time round who knew how long that would have taken. So my friend decided to just eat the salmon. Next disaster - the bill! First off, trying to get the waitress' attention was hard enough. But we were very surprised to find that my friend was charged for the salmon dish (which was more expensive?) instead of the chicken. When we queried it, the waitress simply said that she [my friend] ate the salmon. Any good restaurant wouldn't have even charged for the dish or offered a complimentary drink or something (as it was THEIR error). But no, the waitress was argumentative and wouldn't back down when we asked (rightly so) that my friend pays the price of the original chicken order. Our only resort to ask to speak to the manager (I hate that it came to that). After we explained the situation, she agreed to take off the extra charge. But I must add, that the manager had seen the whole disagreement with the waitress when the bill arrived and did nothing - she ignored it and went downstairs. We were so shocked by the service and quite frankly disappointed that the evening ended on quite a sour note. Don't think we'll be back anytime soon. read more

Went there last week end to meet with some friends! I was amazingly surprised by the quality of the food as well as the atmosphere within the restaurant which is really pleasant! The staff was nice and helpful. This is one of the rare restaurant in London where you can enjoy good food for not much money. read more
