We had a great time today tasting at Bella Luna and hanging out with the wine maker Lukas who was laid back and shared more about their wine making process. The winery is family owned and their wines are dry-farmed. The Fighter Pilot Red and Rotor Head Red where among our favorites and we took a couple of bottles home.

Enjoyed our Friday afternoon tasting at Bella Luna. We came without a reservation and were warmly welcomed by Lucas the winemaker, who lead our tasting in the cellar. It was a very casual tasting, he sat down with us part of the time and chatted about wine, Paso, and how he got to Paso from Australia. Loved the vibe of this family owned winery. We tasted a variety of whites and reds, and all had different favorites from the menu. They had some great Italian standalone varietals as well as some blends. My favorite was the Rotor Head Red, which I ended up getting a bottle of to take home. Really cool spot to come if you're looking for a family owned winery and want to chat with the people who know and make the wine.

Really enjoyed my visit of Bella Luna! First of all, the wines are great! I'm generally a red guy, but they had this white wine that they aged in a concrete "egg" (it's actually shaped like an egg, he showed us the contraption in the back) that was super crisp and refreshing. I guess when they ferment in this way the bubbles move in a circular motion rather than just straight upward which affects the flavors. We ended up buying two bottles, looking forward to popping them open in the summer. The reds were also tasty, I think my favorite one was the estate reserve. On top of that, we really loved chatting with Lucas the winemaker there. Besides being extremely knowledgeable about wine, he regaled us with stories about the history of the winery and his own personal anecdotes. He mentioned how his wife's father was one of the founders of the winery and she was there in the tasting room as well, chatting with some other customers. They all live directly on the property, you can see their house up on the hill when you walk in, and their passion for wine from planting to pruning to aging, etc is unparalleled. One cool little thing was Lucas showed us the test tube he uses to try out blends, and he's not afraid to be a little non-traditional with his mixing. At one point his kids came into the room and handed out little oranges to everyone there. The oranges were delicious. In terms of the ambiance, there's a little table outside so you can enjoy the scenic vineyard views and a few small tables inside, but this place isn't particularly big. Definitely a small, family run vineyard, and it has the hospitality of a small family run place. We will definitely come back. Highly recommended as a stop on any wine tasting trip!

Head trained vineyard, vs a trellis style vineyard.

$10 for a 5 pour tasting, and they'll generously waive the tasting fee with 1 bottle purchase. Long overdue review. This was our first stop on a 5-day trip to Paso Robles. We had reservations for a neighboring winery, but arrived too early and as we drove by Bella Luna, we saw the garage door/tasting room/barrel room open and stopped to see if we could do a quick tasting. The gentleman working (Son-in Law to one of the owners) said they weren't open, however since he was working with the wines, he'd be more than happy to do a tasting for us...what fantastic service! We learned that their vineyard is 100% dry farmed (no irrigation, only rain and groundwater) and the vines are "head trained" (shrub/tree like), instead of on trellises (long rows). In my opinion, this method stresses the vines/grapes, and they end up with a more intense flavor. They also use only onsite yeast in the fermentation process. Their Italian style wines are light bodied, and the white wines were very refreshing. We don't drink a lot of whites, but we enjoyed and purchased bottles of the 2018 Bella Bianca and the 2019 Piccolo Rosso Rosé. Due to Covid-19 restrictions and at the time of our visit, all tastings were held outside on their beautiful courtyard patio, which offers shade and views of the vineyard. I highly recommend you stop by when in the area.

A secret gem in the Paso Robles wine region. The wines are delicious! The vineyard is stunning. We had a private tasting with Lukas, the wine maker. Each wine we tasted was simply delicious! Can't wait to be back!

First winery of the day, but 4/6 for the weekend. Cute little small mom and pop winery! This was recommended to us by my husbands boss because one of his old coworker works here now- Shelly. She happened to work the same time as we wine tasted and was our server, so we got amazing service!! We did both tasting of Bella Luna and Zanoli and loved both. We were also on a tight schedule because of our tour. We were happy to finish both tasting in time and we bought about 8 bottles!

What a sweet find! A great small boutique family run winery in the heart of Paso Robles wine country. We had what happened to be a private wine tasting with the winemaker's wife. They are right in the middle of harvest and were using the tasting room for fermenting, so we sat outside and enjoyed the view. The fact that she graduated from Fresno State viticulture program is a bonus for us as we hail from the "No". Her knowledge of the wines, winery and history of this winery was very appreciated . Every wine we tasted was different and delicious. We left with a couple of our favorites and we'll definitely be back. We highly recommend this treasure.

The place is very busy. We opted for a wine tasting with lunch. They offered 5 wines and proper tasting pours. When we were seated, water was quickly served and we ordered their House-made Sourdough Focaccia which was served with lavender butter and lavender salt. That was very tasty - the lavender butter and salt worked well with the bread. My wife ordered the Duck Confit and I ordered the Bucatini Pasta which featured Mighty Cap Mushrooms. The sauce was very rich and flavorful. The pasta was cooked properly, and the mushrooms were just so good. The Duck Confit was similar - the duck leg was cooked properly, and worked great with the Heirloom tomatos and plum, all of which sat on a wild rice salad. You can skip the wine tasting and order drinks or wine off the menu if you want. Take a moment to walk around the grounds, look up at the ceiling work. They do not offer complimentary bread service. Bread is on the menu - House made sourdough focaccia with lavender butter. It was so good, totally worth the price. Slight crisp on the outside, spongy interior, but chewy from the sourdough gluten. Hint of sweet in the background. Butter is light and aromatic. This amazing dish is just the bread. Roasted Chicken was tender with a light sauce. Pasta with mushroom sounds simple but it was yummy and perfect. For wine tasting, they offered a complimentary welcome taste of Pino Rose, light and refreshing. The tasting had 4 wines, my favorite was the 2022 Reserve Chardonnay. It was buttery and smooth. The building, scenery of the vineyard hills, and the flower garden were all beautiful.

But alas, we finally made it happen, and we had such a great experience. The tasting room is beautiful and grand, it was so cool to hear about the building and how it was restored. Tastings are by appointment, which you can book and schedule online. When you arrive the gate is closed and you buzz in to let them know you're there, so I probably wouldn't try to just walk in. As we approached the tasting room someone met us outside with our first taste of wine, such a nice touch. We sat inside at one of the comfortable couch settings, but they also had bar seating and bigger tables larger groups. You are also able to take your wine outside and explore a little bit, which we did. We noticed other groups with dogs, so they are dog friendly even inside! We were helped by Taylor who led us through the tasting, which was already set up and ready to go at the table when we arrived. Even though the wines were all out, she stopped in as we worked our way through them to talk about them a bit more. Including the welcome pour when we arrive, the tasting menu had 2 whites and 3 reds when we were in. We ended up trying a couple other wines that weren't in the tasting, and ended up getting bottles of the sensibility from the menu and a zin that was and off menu pour. Would absolutely come back here for an elevated and sophisticated wine experience that doesn't feel stuffy at all.

Lacey was our tasting room host and she was wonderful! She knew all the history and well described the wines. She didn't rush us and encouraged us to relax, wander around, and enjoy the tastes. We were on the fence about one of the wines, and she offered us an older vintage so we would know how it would taste in 10 years! That worked!
