What a find! We had time to kill on our way to the coast and decided to stop at a dog friendly winery, since we had our pooch with us. Enjoyed our Friday afternoon tasting at Bella Luna. We came without a reservation and were warmly welcomed by Lucas the winemaker, who lead our tasting in the cellar. It was a very casual tasting, he sat down with us part of the time and chatted about wine, Paso, and how he got to Paso from Australia. Loved the vibe of this family owned winery. We tasted a variety of whites and reds, and all had different favorites from the menu. They had some great Italian standalone varietals as well as some blends. My favorite was the Rotor Head Red, which I ended up getting a bottle of to take home. Really cool spot to come if you're looking for a family owned winery and want to chat with the people who know and make the wine. read more

Really enjoyed my visit of Bella Luna! First of all, the wines are great! I'm generally a red guy, but they had this white wine that they aged in a concrete "egg" (it's actually shaped like an egg, he showed us the contraption in the back) that was super crisp and refreshing. I guess when they ferment in this way the bubbles move in a circular motion rather than just straight upward which affects the flavors. We ended up buying two bottles, looking forward to popping them open in the summer. The reds were also tasty, I think my favorite one was the estate reserve. On top of that, we really loved chatting with Lucas the winemaker there. Besides being extremely knowledgeable about wine, he regaled us with stories about the history of the winery and his own personal anecdotes. He mentioned how his wife's father was one of the founders of the winery and she was there in the tasting room as well, chatting with some other customers. They all live directly on the property, you can see their house up on the hill when you walk in, and their passion for wine from planting to pruning to aging, etc is unparalleled. One cool little thing was Lucas showed us the test tube he uses to try out blends, and he's not afraid to be a little non-traditional with his mixing. At one point his kids came into the room and handed out little oranges to everyone there. The oranges were delicious. In terms of the ambiance, there's a little table outside so you can enjoy the scenic vineyard views and a few small tables inside, but this place isn't particularly big. Definitely a small, family run vineyard, and it has the hospitality of a small family run place. We will definitely come back. Highly recommended as a stop on any wine tasting trip! read more

We came here on recommendation from a friend and glad we did. Really nice atmosphere and the wines were very good. Amy did a great job pouring and describing the wines. I usually don't drink white or rose but these were done a style that was not overly sweet and highlighted the grapes. The rose was especially nice. I liked the use of Italian varietals Sangiovese and Nebbiolo. The wines tasted very natural without a lot of manipulation and really showed the character of the grapes. We ended up joining the wine club since we purchased quite a bit of wine and look forward to future visits. read more

$10 for a 5 pour tasting, and they'll generously waive the tasting fee with 1 bottle purchase. Long overdue review. This was our first stop on a 5-day trip to Paso Robles. We had reservations for a neighboring winery, but arrived too early and as we drove by Bella Luna, we saw the garage door/tasting room/barrel room open and stopped to see if we could do a quick tasting. The gentleman working (Son-in Law to one of the owners) said they weren't open, however since he was working with the wines, he'd be more than happy to do a tasting for us...what fantastic service! We learned that their vineyard is 100% dry farmed (no irrigation, only rain and groundwater) and the vines are "head trained" (shrub/tree like), instead of on trellises (long rows). In my opinion, this method stresses the vines/grapes, and they end up with a more intense flavor. They also use only onsite yeast in the fermentation process. Their Italian style wines are light bodied, and the white wines were very refreshing. We don't drink a lot of whites, but we enjoyed and purchased bottles of the 2018 Bella Bianca and the 2019 Piccolo Rosso Rosé. Due to Covid-19 restrictions and at the time of our visit, all tastings were held outside on their beautiful courtyard patio, which offers shade and views of the vineyard. What a sweet find! A great small boutique family run winery in the heart of Paso Robles wine country. We had what happened to be a private wine tasting with the winemaker's wife. They are right in the middle of harvest and were using the tasting room for fermenting, so we sat outside and enjoyed the view. The fact that she graduated from Fresno State viticulture program is a bonus for us as we hail from the "No". Her knowledge of the wines, winery and history of this winery was very appreciated . Our group of three chose Bella Luna randomly and glad we did. We arrived Last weekend without knowing to call ahead, but we were taken care of a on a Sunday morning without hesitation. Well, if you're interested in wine/winemaking and get hold of Lucas and his winemaking stories, you'll be amazed, entertained and provided a bag of tips-n-tricks guaranteed! Absolutely awesome experience talking to him! I was mostly interested in Italian varietals... and those are enjoyable! Personally lean to Nebiolo, but both Sangioveses were the best that day. I stopped here a dozen years ago and purchased some wine out of their garage. It was some of the best wine I've tasted from the Central Coast. Back then there were only about 60 wineries in the area and now there are over 350. Recently I stopped in again to taste their wine and was impressed to see they have remodeled that garage into a small tasting room where the owner poured me several of their offerings. I sampled some of their limited production red wines and still find them to be superb. I bought a bottle of 2010 Barbera and 2013 Sangiovese. This casual tasting room is definitely worth a stop on your wine tasting itinerary. read more

Sometimes things just don't feel right and am sorry to write this review. We stopped by with enthusiasm to get a bottle of Mead. We are 20 year beekeepers from San Francisco and have tried our hand at making mead at home and we're very curious. Upon entering the establishment my partner was asked, " are you looking for a bathroom?" when there is clearly sign stating Restrooms are for paying customers Only. Curious to be asked about "looking for a restroom" in place of a greeting. ?? In it's most innocent it's an odd and off putting question. We then went to the counter and stood there reading their family's story and the menu and happily waiting. A few minutes passed by without any acknowledgment. While no conclusions can be drawn from either of these instance's, it did not feel at all welcoming and we left without purchasing anything. It could have been remedied by a simple, "hi folks, I'll be with you shortly. We would have been happy to wait. read more

I'm a wine tour operator in Paso Robles. I'm always looking to steer my guests toward wineries that have a great combination of excellent wines, gorgeous settings and laid-back, feel-good vibes. Bella Luna has got all three in spades. The Bailey Ranch Zin (fighter pilot red) is a fantastic, classic Paso Robles Zinfandel from an appropriately famous local vineyard. The Bella Bianca is brightly acidic, a real hot weather all-star, highly drinkable, and a new white fave. This winery has a great family feel and generally gets a comfortable breeze on their east side patio setting. My guests love this place. I do too. read more

Maybe 3.5, 3.75 We finally got to taste! It was a beautiful day out and the tasting room was open. We did walk in with 'expectations,' so to speak. The night before, as we arrived to our friend's house in Atascadero (she is the best hostess!), she had a few bottles of wine open for us, one of which was Bella Luna (it was a 'mystery' bottle; I can't recall the name, but it was a Cab/Sangiovese blend). We all decided after many, many tastes, that it tasted odd. It was super flowery,thin, and not at all like a Cab/Sangiovese. Frankly, it was disappointing, and my friend was quite disappointed, being in their wine club. We arrive to taste and chat up a gentleman (who I presume to be Sherm, the owner). He was kind and the wines tasted nice. As my friend explained our experience with the wine the previous evening, he explained that there had been a problem with the machines during bottling, exposing the wine to tons of oxygen. He was disappointed with our disappointment, which was nice. He went a step further and replaced my friend's bottle with another one, of her choice. That's customer service! The nice thing too is that my friend was considering dropping from their club, but his kind actions convinced her to stay. I'm not totally in love with their wines (or prices; a bit high, I think, for the taste), but I do like the wines and I do completely respect the level of customer service. Well done! read more
