Penman Springs is amazing-their staff goes beyond to make your tastings perfect. I would go back anytime.

What an awesome vineyard with 2 dogs and 2 cats! We visited today. The whites and rose are sold out, so we had a flight of reds. The staff was very attentive and helpful. They provided water as well as a dump basin. This isn't too far off the beaten path. We got in a little early, and found at least 2 more wineries (not on the "map" from the big bad search engine) down the road a ways. The cats are very friendly and love a light touch behind the ears. The tasting room is set up nicely - it has a retail area where you can pick up some wine tools, or just some nice stuff to have around your house. And did I mention free tastings? Where can you find that anymore? Not many places. read more

Our tour guide (Kim) at Capaldi Ranch recommended Penman Springs Vineyard, and we were so thankful to have followed her guidance. This winery is off the beaten path but is worth the drive. Their tasting room is family friendly and to our surprise, they offered puzzles and games to help entertain the kids! Food is not served here, but they welcome outside food. I'm not a wine enthusiast but participated in the tasting anyways and enjoyed every wine I sampled. I don't recall the name of the individual who greeted us but she was knowledgeable, accommodating and attentive. Overall it was a splendid wine tasting experience for our entire family! read more

Absolutely not to be missed! The tasting room looks out over the rolling hills of the vineyard and when you walk inside you're always greeted so warmly. If you get lucky, Beth will be behind the bar and then you're in for a real treat. She's so welcoming and down to earth! They have 8 wines on their tasting menu and each one is tastier than the last. We always take wine home with us and when we get home and open one up we always wish we had bought more because they're all delicious. I believe they only charge $10 for their tasting if by some miracle you don't like any enough to buy any but it's waived with your purchase. The tasting room also has some other goodies to buy or just browse. Every time we're there we find ourselves chatting up locals and/or regulars who know what a gem this place is. We've been here many times and finally wised up and joined their club on our last visit. read more

I have heard a lot about this winery since one of my friends is obsessed with their merlot. It is definitely worth the drive out there especially if you are looking to support a small family owned winery. Tasting fee is only $10 but waved with a bottle purchase and the wines are extremely affordable. If its your birthday they do something extra special for you... One of our favorite wineries here in Paso Robles. Price and wine are both amazing. $10 tasting fee if you do not end up buying any bottles. 12 wines available to taste. The tasting portion is generous and they allow you to revisit any wines. We came here Thursday and had an appt for 1:30pm. It wasn't busy at all. We liked everything except for the first 2 reds: "Cuteness" and "Aglianico." Their most expensive bottle is $38 and cheapest is $20. We loved the Dry Humour muscat, Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah. We bought 3 wine to-go since wine and price were both good. But other wines are also great too. You can taste the wines in door or outdoor. But indoor felt more easier and faster. Noone wears mask anymore, except for us. We heard it was the female owner's bday so they had snacks out but when we got there only a fruit salad was left. Pat and Jennifer were friendly. Pat was definitely the entertainer here. Their membership is only 4 bottles of wine per year. 20% off wine purchase, free tasting for all guests of the member, 15% off cases, free member food, 1 free bottle of of wine for karaoke event. Won't break you bank and your taste buds will thank you. Looks like you can picnic here. read more

This winery is by far my favorite! It's the only winery I'm a club member of. Aside from delicious wine, they specialize in hospitality and no matter who you are or when you visit, they will make you feel like family. Indoor tasting room is intimate and they have plenty of outdoor seating with beautiful views of Paso Robles rolling hills and their winery. Parking is also right in front so no walking around aimlessly. Facility is always clean and fresh. And what's this review without talking wine? All you need to know is Penman Springs is worth every dollar on every bottle. They focus on reds and prices are incredible. From Merlot to Syrah (and even 2 port wines!) they have you covered. The wines rest pleasant on the tongue and are great for every occasion. You are doing yourself a disservice if you skip on Penman Springs!!! read more

This review is long overdue for my favorite winery ever! Note that this is a review of the experience pre-Covid. On my first trip to Paso Robles, I discovered this gem and have come back every time I am in the area. This gem is a bit out of the beaten path but so worth it - I cannot stress how much I like this place. It's a local winery that sells its wines around the Paso Robles area only with a lovely tasting room. Beth who owns the winery with her husband is in the tasting room and makes the wine tasting so much fun! She is very friendly, open, down to earth and knowledgeable. For the wine tasting, you can try all their wines with local cheese (it's from a local place nearby - so fresh) and bread that they put in the tasting room. I've spent hours in this place when usually, I spend a max of 1 hour in a wine tasting and cannot wait to come back. The wines and atmosphere of this place is so good that I signed up for its wine club. Unlike other wine clubs, this one does not force you to purchase many wines (10 or more) per quarter or half year but instead only requires you to purchase 4 bottles each time / 2x a year for a total of 8 bottles/year. You can certainly buy more that the 4 bottles. Once you are a wine club member, you are invited to their pickup parties to get your wines. These pickup parties are awesome and are set up in the winery's patio with unlimited wine and food and live music. I've bought some very unique wine here such as the Petit Verdot and the Merlot. The wines are made in relatively small batches so once they are out, they are out. I highly recommend this place! read more

Wow! All the five star reviews were right--friendly people, gorgeous vineyard, very nice wine. They put out a food spread for Harvest Weekend that put all the other wineries to shame. I wasn't even very hungry when I arrived, but I couldn't stop eating the pulled pork sandwiches, the quiche and wonderful cheeses. I felt like I was back in France, which is one of my favorite places to visit. But it's a lot easier to go to Paso Robles. I try to stop in at Penman at least once or twice a year, especially during festivals. They are always have some good items to go along with the wine there. The wine itself has a good price point and is decent. I have bought several over the years here so I don't really have a favorite. The tasting room is a little small, but has plenty of stuff if you want to impulse buy when you are tasting and snacking. This gem of a winery is always worth a stop if you are new to the area or returning. read more

Found a few places in the surrounding area that I want to go to based on word of mouth or marketing that I enjoyed. Was driving by Penman springs and decided it was a good a place as any. Was I wrong. We walked in to what seemed to be a quiet sleepy little winery and discovered that they were the most fun we would have all weekend. The owner is super nice and so was her staff. They walked us through the entire menu and a couple extra tastings. We usually spend about an hour and half at a wine tasting. We spent 3 hours here hanging out and talking about the wine, our lives, and anything else that popped up. Needless to say the wine was delicious but the company was really worth the value of a tasting. But since we bought wine the tastings were waived. And then I was told by the staff that the owner doesn't usually charge for tastings. I could assume that people usually buy wine. They had a beautiful outside which first attracted us, but we never even thought to leave because of the amount of fun we had inside. read more

This was a quick stop here, but I had wanted to check this place out for awhile. It is in a lovely location, great patio area, especially if you are hanging outside. I did a tasting and the ladies that attended me were super friendly and approachable. My favorite wine was the rose and now I kick myself for not picking up a bottle. What a fun place! The ladies behind the counter are super nice and make you feel like old friends! The men BBQ-ing outside were friendly as well and greeted us with a warm and friendly hello. The wines inside were quite tasty and they offered a wide variety of food pairings: cheeses (there was a white cheese and a cheddar type and both were delicious but the white cheese was HEAVENLY!), breads, crackers, chocolate truffles, oil for dipping (we sampled their roasted garlic olive oil with grape seed and ended up taking home a bottle), wine jam (also very tasty), a bottle of chimichurra herbs which we didn't get to sample but our friend we were visiting (a PR local) said it was amazing and he's a great cook so I couldn't pass it up. We left here with a great head lift and our tummy's delighted with all the flavors, as well as a bag of oil, sauce, and 2 bottles of wine. What a great place! Side note: I tried the chimichurra sauce tonight for dindin with sliced mozzarella cheese and tomatoes, with a little salt and pepper and topped with the chimichurra herb sauce from here and I have to admit: one of the BEST caprese salads I have ever had in MY LIFE!!! YUMMMOOO!!! Four stars for the whole wine experience, but add one more star for the knock-your-socks-off chimichurra herb sauce! read more

$5 tasting. I've never been disappointed with ANY wine here. All are so smooth and tasty. No bitter after taste, no strong lingering tannins, just delightful drinking wine. My favorite is actually their Merlot, which says a lot, because there isn't one other Merlot that I've tried that I DO like! And the wines are all very, very reasonably priced. However the stars of the winery are truly the two ladies. They are such a joy to be around their company. Friendliest and most comfortable winery. They make a chimichuri sauce that is flipping amazing! And an awesome hummus dip. They also pair of their cheese ( purchased from Hanford) with this homemade bread that I've attempted to make numerous times but it never comes out nearly as good as they way these ladies make it! Elmer is the reason to come here! We was amazing, not only his knowledge of wine in the area and throughout California, but also directed us to the different hilarious merchandise the have on hand. Great time will be had if you stop by. Now to the wines, it was a nice selection of affordable wines. None blew us away, and a few fell flat on your pallet. We were fortunate enough to be the only ones in the tasting room this Sunday morning. Both the ladies were so sweet and we were chatting like friends who met after a long time. We loved all their wines especially the Moscato. It is quite a small tasting room and they even have some cheese and bread with homemade wine jam. We had an amazing afternoon here. It was my birthday and we had planned on visiting a few different wineries in the area. Beth was such a gracious host, so we didn't end up leaving! She was bringing out full bottles for our group of 10 to taste from, and even whipped out a birthday tiara for me to wear. The wines were all so smooth and easy to sip on-- we were huge fans of the muscat and the merlot. In the end, she wouldn't accept money for the tasting, which was overly generous. Penman Springs overall is beautiful and such a great experience when you visit for an occasion. 10/10 recommendation read more
