Oh, Tobin James, what FUN. We scooted in on Thanksgiving, right before they did last call. Our server was a such a gem - wish I could recall her name. She treated us kindly and didn't rush us at all. I have a newborn and a toddler, and both were welcome inside and at the bar (we stood). She let us try most everything and we ended up with almost a case of bottles. As someone who works in the industry, I so appreciate the excellent customer service. Tobin had all the funky 90s charm one wants. Their wine was not bad! I especially liked the rock n roll Syrah. The classic Zin (what they're known for) is quite jammy so keep that in mind. It's such a good reminder that customer service is paramount! Thank you Tobin! read more

Super great place for wine tasting. They give large pours and if you are a wine member you can bring two guest for free. Their wines they send for wine members are excellent. All of my friends love them. And best of all their wine event in March is awesome. Lots of all you can eat foods, all you can drink wine and even wine from the barrels that haven't been released. With all the countless wineries/vineyards all over the central coast, we always make it a point to visit at least a new one (or two) on our bi-annual trips back to Paso Robles. This place had always caught my eye whenever we drove into town because of it's Western/Cali-country fascade (and vibe) that I love! Their website said, "walk-ins welcomed, but reservations encouraged", so my husband and I took a chance they could accommodate us for a tasting (without a reservation), and they kindly did! Welcomed by Blake, who was behind the beautiful bar! He was great and made our first time tasting there a wonderful experience. We even got to sample a grape from their vineyard, which was absolutely delicious and sweet! Needless to say, their Cab was my favorite (and we left there with 3 bottles...LOL!). Looked like they were prepping for an event that evening. We explored their beautiful property, and I was in awe at the stone fireplace, pizza oven, and western decor throughout. My Tobin James review is a few years too late but I'm happy to give it! lol my first time here was 2019 on a girls trip and then with the hubby this past December 2025. Both times I really enjoyed myself( I mean with great wine how can you not??) We didn't make reservations but was able to do a walk in and were at one of the bars. Our hostess was super cool and asked us some questions beforehand to see what kind of wines we liked to get an idea of what she would pour for us. Our faves were the liquid love, james gang reserve, fat boy, the table red wine and the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon. They had chocolate truffles to try at the time which paired perfectly with the wine as well. Overall it just felt like a a fun place to just relax and enjoy yourself. We ended buying the james gang reserve and table red wine for home. Will definitely be back when we are in the area! read more

I have been a member for many years but I have only been there in person a couple of times. This last time was super fun with our server! It was so fun that Bill's sister became a member also! Excellent and fun wine tasting experience with our tasting Gide, Gaetano! We got to try MANY different wines and he was a hoot! Very knowledgeable and entertaining. Everyone working there appears to be really having a good time. I've been told by friends that the Paso Robles region produces their favorite red wines. This was our only stop but will agree based upon this. The tasting room and wine shop is spacious and well appointed. Excellent vibes and wine here. The place is reminiscent of an old west saloon or establishment, and there are wines for palates of all types. I loved the Sauvignon Blancnand the soaked Chardonnay in the heat, but they had such a great selection of solid, fruity, well-balanced (not heavy or sweet) reds as well - the Merlot, zin, and cab. The staff is super friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Our kids were kept entertained with the free arcade games while we did some tasting. We loved this place. If we lived nearby, we'd be regulars. Gazillion stars!!! read more

Every time we pass Paso, we always have to stop by and get a few cases of wine. We've gone here many times that we finally decided to become members. The staff are always friendly and knowledgeable. They even let our son come in and have non alcoholic champagne. Nothing but good vibes and good drinks and good conversations. Well we did it. We visited Tobin James Winery and Blake did not disappoint. He was very welcoming and had a wonderful personality with charm added. He was most generous with the requested pours and wanted to show us all around the making of the wines. With our reservation he had a couple of cheese trays as we were special guests visiting. I have been a member here since 2020 and was finally able to go. Best of all I went specifically for an event. I did go prior since I wanted to buy wine. Their setup was a bit different because they had the winery set up for the event but was still open before it started. It was still a very fun experience. I got to try wines I had never had before, since my shipment doesn't include them. It was nice to be able to try ones I typically don't get, which are mainly their low cost wines but still taste so good. Everyone who served us when we went were very knowledgeable and sweet. They are not stingy on their pours either. Whatever we wanted to try and taste they had and it was amazing. The event was so fun! I always receive flyers about them so I was really happy I was finally able to go and it was worth it. Can't wait to go back for more wine and for another event. read more

If you have been here before this is a MUST TRY ! We had Donna as our pourer and loved the energy she brought. You can pick 6-8 wines to taste (we ended up having more like 10) and if you purchase a bottle it waives the tasting fee. Pretty busy when we got there (around 1 on a Friday) but the employees were able to help us find a place at the bar quickly. I recommend walking around the cellar to see the merch and goodies. Quality/Quantity - My favorite tasting was the Syrah for $22 each, so we bought a few bottles. Just read that you are known for your Zinfandels, if you are following you know I belong to a few wineries that focus on Zinfandels. I can't believe I did not taste this... Guess I just have to come back. :) They had some cheese plates and small snacks in the coolers. And because the wine festival was this upcoming weekend, at one time, a chef came out with a bite food she was practicing. It was really good. I think it was applesauce and cranberry puree on a small piece of bread topped with blue cheese. It was even warm! My daughter really enjoyed it and wanted more but she left. Atmosphere - 71 acres of vineyards. What an interesting cool space. I actually prefer the outdoor spaces. See pictures. But also had cool indoor decor, see pictures. Even the bathroom had cool decor, see picture. The inside is okay, but with the 3 bars, it felt very "commercialized" as if they squeezed so many people in to make as much $$ as possible. I know, it is a business... I did appreciate the 1860's Brunswick mahogany bar. If I did not have SO many Tommy Bahama shirts already, I would have bought more... Good selection and good themes. I also like the fact that many of the shirts also had the Tobin James logo. 3 huge indoor bars, one outdoor bar. There is an upstairs, but I did not go up as we got here late and they were closing soon. Small arcade that no one comes for, LOL. I guess if you brought kids with you...? Private guest house. Open 7 days a week from 10am to 6pm. Service - 5 stars. Rushed out of Napa without really hitting any wineries. But today was our first day in Paso Robles, and I did not know my travel schedule so I did not make an appointment. The front hostess squeezed us in, thank you. 1 hour tasting with 6-8 wines. Amanda was our pourer and she was very patient and generous. Price - $50 + generous (cash) tip. FYI - When we got to SLO Costco, they also sold Tobin James wines there (much cheaper), but I am sure different bottles...? It's about a ten minute drive east of Paso on 46. We took the back road instead but also got there quickly in Mother's Day 2024 afternoon. My #1 favorite wine is Dream Weaver but I had never made it out to the winery. Today was the day I checked it off my bucket list. My boyfriend was our designated driver and my 2 adult kids were with us. Myself I really only like sparkling and white wines, not dry so no Chardonnay and my kids don't like that either. We tasted a lot of wines. Our server was really funny and helpful. We laughed a lot. We bought a couple bottles of wine after the tasting BTW tasting used to be free here since it's quite a drive out of town, but it's $20 each now, but they waive it if you buy a bottle of wine. For $20 you get 1 hour of tastings. I would do it again ! We had fun! The bathrooms are worth noting. Very large. Many stalls. You enter without having a door, it's like an airport type where you just walk in and around the corner. It was very clean and the toilets are automatic. Very nice! There are no outdoor tables so that's something I would change. Outdoor tables with shade would be nice. It's really just a parking lot out there except for a strange large brick BBQ area that looks like Gnomes or Trolls would live there. I would change it. It's over designed. Simplify it. In closing. I cannot ever get enough Dream Weaver sparkling wine. I love it. Not dry, easy drinking without being sweet. read more

Excellent service today. Thanks Blake! One of the last free wine tasting stops in the county (the other one is Eberle). No qualms about the free tasting, no limits, and no problems with "revisits." I enjoyed most of their reds today. Their Petite Syrah is excellent this year & I bought a bottle ($28). It is close to the water park in Paso making it a convenient stop for the adults while the kids are sliding away. They are open 7 days a week, 10am - 6pm unlike many of the other wineries in the area that close earlier and take Sundays/Mondays off. I enjoy the vibe: old world, natural wood. AWARENESS: Each year, Tobin James host a party where one can buy a ticket to gain access to dozens of food vendors and both wine and beer tastings. This event has become a yearly get together for my friends and I. NARRATIVE: Tobin James Cellars is an awesome winery. Like I mentioned above, they host and annual event with dozens of foods, wines and beer and several live bands. This years event was dynamite! All of the foods I sampled from the many venders was plateful and tasty. The beers I sampled were good too but, the wines... The wines Tobin James offered were fantastic! SCENE: The yearly event at Tobin James Cellars cost around $100 dollars per person but, its money well spent. The winery is located in the city of Paso Robles and can't be missed from highway 46. RECOMMENDATION(S): I would highly recommend hitting the yearly event, even if your not a wine drinker. The food alone is worth the price of admission. read more

My favourite winery by far! I discovered it by accident in 1997, and have been coming back there at least twice a week since then. The wines are excellent - if you haven't heard of them, part of it may be because they don't advertise in wine journals/publication. The man pouring didn't take the time to explain the wines to us, which is what we look forward to when wine tasting.
