Then I read all of the reviews on here, including the ones that aren't recommended and got a little nervous. I ultimately decided the pics speak for themselves and went for it. First tip, if your appointment is at lunchtime, get there early to find parking! I ultimately found a spot in the Cafe Brazil lot and bought a latte so I wouldn't get towed. Miriam was completely understanding about my being 20 minutes late and didn't seem put off at all (though I did let her know once I knew I wasn't going to make it). She greeted me by name at the door and started consulting what I wanted from my color (to bring my hair closer to its natural color without going too dark). When we were chatting, I mentioned where I parked and she looked panicked and said "Take off your cape and go move your car, even though you bought something they will still tow you." Good lookin' out, girl. Luckily a space in front of the shop had opened up and she set a cone out to reserve it for me. The atmosphere is really laid back and cool. It is not a pristine Uptown salon spa; it feels more like it could be a girly tattoo shop at night and the stylists use tool chests for storage. There are sweet vintage details like a beautiful turquoise painted armoire and chandelier juxtaposed with a beautiful old school tattoo art mural. The floors are painted concrete and yes, like one negative review said, there are stains on their tools but that doesn't mean they aren't hygienic. The feel isn't "I'm getting pampered" so much as "my cousin does hair and she's badass at it." But there's still mimosas if you want one... Miriam does hair a little different than I've ever had it done. She asked me about what cut I wanted and then proceeded to chop off seemingly random chunks of (dry) hair. Then she proceeded with the color. When that was done, she started drying my hair and I wondered if what she had done before was what she considered a hair cut (again, negative reviews in the back of my mind). Never fear, she just dry cuts, which I haven't had done in a long time but I actually prefer it. When all was said in done, I couldn't be happier with the results. The only reason this isn't a 5 star rating is because I did leave with several small dye stains on my face and neck that I didn't notice until I got home. Personally, it's not a big deal and it definitely will not keep me from going back.

It didn't include callus removal or any major extras, which made the cost feel even less justified. While the experience was worth trying, I've had more thorough pedicures elsewhere for much less. I read in another review they didn't receive the full massage time in the package they paid for, I also did not receive the massage time noted in the package but it is what it is. That said, the salon was exceptionally clean, which isn't always the case at other places. Make sure the review the menu and what is an additional charge so you know ahead of time what's not included or extra.
