Definitely a lovely view - no question - but is it worth $500? Not to me.

Either that was a mistake on their website or they're trying to gaslight me. I even took a screenshot that I've attached.

Love that they offer a complimentary selection of e-books, audio books, meditations and podcasts (QR code to scan right on the bedside table) and that they've eliminated all single-use plastic water bottles on their property. The weather was perfect during our visit in early February. Staff were all friendly and helpful ~ special shout outs to Elaine and Shannon for all of their help leading up to our stay. Really wasn't the vibe I wanted. I also couldn't figure out how to run my shower without getting the entire bathroom soaked- including the clothes I brought inside that I had planned to change into. Aside from that they allowed me to check-in early (no extra fee) which was appreciated and they have convenient outside hotel parking (extra fee) that is easily accessible across the street.

But nope... right on the edge of West Cliff Drive and just above the boardwalk, this restored Victorian is an oasis of peace, grace, and refined luxury in Lost Boys-land. You can't miss this restored white Italian Revival beauty with a commanding view of the Giant Dipper and the neon glitz of the Beach Boardwalk. Once inside you'll be struck by the high ceilings and windows, clean lines, tasteful color palettes, and spotless housekeeping. We stayed in the ADA room on the ground floor, but I still walked to the top of the stairs just to see the stained glass dome over the ceiling over the stairway. Stunning! The room was not enormous but it was efficient and comfortable and met my mobility needs. Loved the walk in shower with a shower chair. Body wash and shampoo/conditioner are all provided and smelled great. The gas fireplace in the room was welcome as it was still chilly in April. As for hospitality, checking in was quick and friendly. The front desk clerk at check-in was courteous and all smiles. Check-out front desk attendant wasn't the warmest, but nothing that would put me off a return. We enjoyed the complimentary wine and cheese/cracker hour at 430pm and the hot breakfast buffet in the morning was delicious and filling. We had it arranged in advance for in room dining and it was great! If I were to drum up a single critique of this visit it would be that the parking area is tight and requires some care to navigate. There are enough spaces for the number of rooms but... we noticed some guests were not very mindful of the parking space lines. Will I be back? Abso-effing-lutely?

To enter room areas, you need a room key to enter the locked gates. There is the option of an elevator or stair to reach upper floors. Parking is limited when reservations are full, so first come first park. There are two ADA parking stalls available. The boardwalk is a one minute walk from the Carousel Beach Inn's entrance. The location caught our attention, the balcony solidified our stay. Unfortunately our balcony overlooks the rear, looking at the parking lot toward the boardwalk. Regardless, our daughter was overjoyed to be able to sit on it and look toward the rides after the park closed. If your reservation is purchased directly through Carousel's site, you can select a Boardwalk view for a little extra. With the location, we were able to not worry about where to park or the transition between beach and play. We started each day at the beach, returned to the room sandy and wet, showered and changed, then headed over for the rides. The TV sucks! Icons continue to appear randomly and frequently while watching a show. We tried to turn off the feature unsuccessfully. The channels are gravely limited and there are no smart app features to connect personal accounts. The stand of the TV was adjustable from left to right, convenient once our little one fell asleep as to lessen the light on her. Free breakfast was a selection of carbs that included bagels, toast, waffles, instant oatmeal, cereal, cream cheese and a protein option of boiled eggs. The fridge was spacious, allowing all our items to fit. We brought lots of fruit and food options for our little one to graze. The microwave was spacious and clean. There were coffee and tea options in room with powder creamer. The liquid creamer was reserved for the lobby. Not ideal. The interior of the room was clean, the bedding comfortable and the bathroom stocked and mostly cared for. The paint on the wall of the bathroom was peeled in a small spot near the toilet bowl and the lower screen of the balcony was disconnected from the sliding door. The boardwalk does not offer many hotel stays with an updated room at this proximity. For the price and convenience of this location we would consider staying again.

The rooms have always been clean and they offer a continental breakfast. They do have underground parking. Unfortunately, I have experienced a major issue with this hotel. I had reserved a room and canceled it within their cancellation policy so I wouldn't be charged any fee. Unfortunately, I was charged. I booked a room online through Marriott and I also canceled online through Marriott. I did receive a confirmation email that my room was canceled. And I did have screenshots showing proof of my cancellation and proof of the cancellation policy. I did try to reach out to the hotel to resolve this issue. I called numerous times. Spoke to a few different people at the front desk who were helpful, but unfortunately, the people at the front desk could not reverse the charges or credit me back. I was informed by the front desk that I needed to speak to the manager. I was transferred to the manager numerous times and the manager did not answer and the manager did not return any of my calls. I left a few voicemails regarding the issue along with my phone number, but the manager never called back. I also left messages with the front desk to have the manager reach out to me regarding these charges, and the manager never called back. I don't know who the manager is at this hotel, but it is extremely unprofessional not to return customers calls regarding charges or issues. I had to take up the issue with my credit card and submitted all my proof to my credit card so I could get the money back. Thankfully, my credit card was able to return the funds. I do advise, make sure you have all proof needed if you cancel your hotel reservations with this place because in my case, they did not honor their cancellation policy and still charge me full price for the room. If it wasn't for this unprofessional manager, this would still be one of our favorite hotels in the area. Currently, I'm unsure if I will continue or book at this place again due to my most recent experience.

And because they gave us access to other people's room, we couldn't trust leaving anything in the next room we were given. Pool is crowded. I was pretty set on this song so I researched for myself and was able to find the clean version on 3 different platforms in about 60 seconds. Another thing is that I have never heard of a DJ who doesn't take requests... I guess we are supposed to know every song our guests are going to want to listen to beforehand. He was unable to take a request for a song that a lot of our guests wanted to hear. The biggest problem of the night was that he played the wrong song for my father daughter dance. We put the very title of the song and what version on the document we shared with him and even had a meeting to go over all of it. If there were ever any doubts he should have reached out to confirm he had the right song and clarify. I really hope this isn't a thing that has happened to a lot of couples he's DJ'd for because it absolutely ruined the moment. That was one of the moments I was looking forward to most because the song had a lot of meaning being that it was my stepfather I was dancing with. He seemed to be more worried about other things like asking us and all of our vendors if we would have an umbrella for him at ceremony even after we already told him we would take care of it. He also kept saying how he would be like "our second wedding planner" and tried to interject himself into things that did not pertain to him. He should probably focus more on making sure he does the DJ part right. Overall I was very disappointed with the experience and would not recommend him. He didn't even have the curtesy to apologize to me after my husband let him know he played the wrong song.

During the process, they recommended extra items and also advised against pieces that didn't fit with our theme. I really appreciated how ethical they were and how trustworthy. They came to deliver our items at the appointed date and time on the weekend and picked up the next day. And what's even better? They put them exactly where we needed them! Another local company (won't mention the name) brought the other items hours late and dumped them at the base of our driveway. The difference between White Rabbit and the other Santa Cruz company were astounding, and not in a good way. I highly recommend White Rabbit and no, I was not paid to leave this rating. I'm just that impressed with how wonderful they made my husband's 60th birthday.

Our experience with Bella Notte's customer service fell short of expectations. Despite making our reservation online and promptly receiving a confirmation email, our anticipation for the trip was soon met with disappointment. It turned out that, 30 minutes after booking, we received a cancellation email. Regrettably, we hadn't checked our email for a day and a half after receiving the initial confirmation, as we assumed our reservation was confirmed. This lack of proactive communication left us dismayed, especially when the email revealed our room had been double-booked due to a system error. When we called for help, the front desk offered us alternative accommodations for two nights, but at a higher cost. We tried to negotiate, suggesting they stick to the original price since it was their mistake, but they couldn't budge. They said they'd pass our concerns to management. Later, we got a call back, but it wasn't good news. The owner was too busy to talk, and they couldn't honor the original price. If we still wanted to stay, we'd have to switch rooms and pay more. Mistakes happen, we get it. But when they do, a little effort to make things right goes a long way. And a phone call wouldn't have hurt either. We're not blaming the front desk staff - they were doing their best. But the way management handled it? Not cool. When you mess up, own it, and try to fix it. read more

If I could give more than 5 stars I would! This was the best coastal hotel I've been to, it's located within walking distance next to the beach and numerous restaurants. The pricing is very affordable and exceeds luxurious accommodations, our room had classical European decor with a queen bed and a jacuzzi tub, along with an entire wetbar and fridge. The front desk staff were super friendly and made sure we were comfortable. It only costs $250-$300 for two nights! I will definitely always come here when I visit Santa Cruz. read more

I loved the color and design of the hotel, and the neighborhood is very Santa Cruz and safe. The season in Santa Cruz, December 28, was very popular with the pier and beach full of tourists, yet the price we paid for the room was very reasonable. read more

I said 3 times that I didn't want to give that information but she insisted on it so I hung up and made a booking through booking dot com and advised early (after midnight) arrival. When we arrived we were informed they were full and could not accommodate until after 3 pm!! This after a SIX hour drive !!! We cancelled the room so they could rebook it, (like around 1230 am when we arrived) but they kept the $200 plus tax anyhow. Had Reservations just quoted me a rate and taken the reservation instead of insisting on my home address she woukd have figured out my travel plans - which now that I think of it, she probably never had a room. The information she requested was most likely to fill a quota. Horrible. Absolutely Slimy but in line with the reported exorbitant parking fees. If you have a chance look elsewhere.

That's the price we will charge, except it's not. I didn't expect an extra 50 on top of the website price. They do add extra tax and parking and tax on that too. Why not just be transparent and say this doesn't include all fees.

The AC (a bit noisy as expected) and the fridge worked well, as did the coffee maker. Water warmed up quickly. TV had decent viewing choices, remote clean and worked fine. Bathroom clean and well stocked. Only two glitches: finding the door to the room, lol, it was adjacent to the recessed door to the room next door; being on the coast it's hard to escape mold/mildew and altho I'm pretty allergic I didn't have any symptoms. Rm. 304, in case you need to avoid that. Never saw a staff member, so if you'd like to be contact free, there's that. Clean facility overall. No bugs. No damage to room. Great price for a great location.

There's a kitchen which we didn't really use except utensils. There is a policy that if you use dishes and leave them, they will charge you $50. Ok no problem really. But then they are assuming that person washed the items thoroughly. I would hope that they just wash the dishes anyway to keep things clean? Our fan worked great. We did have a hard time finding the thermostat (behind the tv). We had to find maintenance and when they came, they couldn't find it either. They had to call someone. There's a skylight in the kitchen so it does get pretty bright early in the morning. Would be nice to have a curtain or something going into the kitchen to block out the light. There is a noise ordinance from 9am-9pm but we did have a lot of kids right by our window before 9am making a lot of noise, bouncing balls, and yelling. It unfortunately woke us up. Didn't say anything because well kids need something to do. Lastly, when we first checked in, we stood at the counter for about 25 min. The desk was unattended. There was the housekeeping staff talking in a room right behind the front desk. They knew we were there but no acknowledgment. Tall guy even came in and said hi but then just walked through to the other side. No one could bother to say anything to us like someone will be with you in a moment or anything which we thought should have done considering at least 5 employees saw us. For the amount we paid in July, there should have been at least consistent service. In the evening, I'd go get a cup of hot chocolate or tea from the front desk. One evening I asked someone about the nearest place to get e-bikes, they didn't know. They did take the time to help us look it up which is great but in the end, they couldn't find the information either. To top it off, on the way out, we turned off the fan and the fire alarm started going off. The bathroom tub jets randomly would come on in the middle of the night as well. Just seems like a lot of electrical issues. Our stay was ok. Not sure if I'd pay that kind of money to stay there again. Maybe for a cheaper price.

Then I discovered the floor was filthy! I was walking around barefoot in it and my feet were black on the bottom. It would take weeks to get that bad. So disgusting! Don't let kids crawl around or sit on it... And they obviously didn't clean the shower because there was a good amount of hair around the drain. The dresser with a missing drawer was interesting but I didn't need to use it so whatever. The mattress was hard as a rock so I really didn't sleep well for the 3 nights I was there but I know some people prefer that. The only reason I didn't pack up and leave after the filthy floor thing was the worry that the other ones in my price range were equally bad. Next time, I'll save up a lot more money for a good hotel that cleans the rooms! Never again for this crappy place. The only redeeming quality was I didn't see any bedbugs.

I originally booked this room and paid with my wife's card as I had lost mine. Booking.com had no issue taking the money and later I learned it goes directly to the owner of the property. This fact is funny is because I learned I had to also pay a $200 deposit. Fine, no problem. Charged the same card again. This time I learned that the card is declined. I contacted the owner directly and told him my situation and decided I should just rush myself a new card.... Couple days later get my new card and run the deposit again and the card was declined through booking.com. The property owner tells me to pay through his personal link, which I tried but still no luck. The other problem is booking.com should be the intermediary anyway!!!!! After the trouble and not wanting to ruin my trip, I decided to cancel per the terms of my agreement and booked a room at the Hampton Inn, which had no issue taking my card. It's been over 2 weeks on a 7-12day refund and now booking.com is telling me that he is not cooperating with the policy and they will refund my money themselves but I have to get my bank to fax them the statement. So great! I get to call my bank and figure it out. On top of everything, I noticed while booking my room at the Hampton Inn he was offering the room at $100 less. If you look at my account, I rarely post bad reviews. Even if service isn't great. I draw the line at greed and shady behavior. People don't have basic morals these days this guy included. Luckily he didn't ruin my trip, don't let him ruin yours double negative 5 stars in my opinion.
