Very comfy and clean bedding. Instructions for accessing late check in were spot on. Great water pressure. Great location close to good eats, the boardwalk and downtown, and freeway. The AC (a bit noisy as expected) and the fridge worked well, as did the coffee maker. Water warmed up quickly. TV had decent viewing choices, remote clean and worked fine. Bathroom clean and well stocked. Only two glitches: finding the door to the room, lol, it was adjacent to the recessed door to the room next door; being on the coast it's hard to escape mold/mildew and altho I'm pretty allergic I didn't have any symptoms. Rm. 304, in case you need to avoid that. Never saw a staff member, so if you'd like to be contact free, there's that. Clean facility overall. No bugs. No damage to room. I booked the Harbor Inn over a month ago, for us to attend a Memorial Service for a friend. I liked the photos of the outside, and for a weekend, the price was fair. Eric checked us in, and showed us to our room, (#104) at the end of the downstairs, two-story building. The size of the room was a good size, a very-good size refrigerator, and a bathroom that was sufficient. A heater and fan were located in the closest, of which we both used. I enjoyed opening the windows for the evening fresh air while we slept. The vertical blinds need replacing, and a few more hangers in the closest would be nice. Eric was most receptive during our time, as we were called away to the Central Valley for an emergency, and worked with us. Walkability is an 8/10, with Safeway about 1.5 away. I would recommend the Harbor Inn. read more

My mom and I came out as a late Mother's Day present and I book this place because it looked like a cute little place close to everything. It completely exceeded my expectations. It was exceptionally clean which is a huge plus for my mom and I. And the location is great! Close to the harbor, the boardwalk, and a bunch of restaurants and cafes! The touchless check-in was super easy which was nice and we just loved that it looked like a cute little B&B. We got a room with a private bath I know some have shared bath. Our room had a fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. The bed was super comfortable! And to say again literally the cleanest place I've seen! This was a great option instead of paying triple the price to stay at Chaminade Resort (about 2 miles down.) My friend was getting married at the Chaminade and at $350/night for 2 nights we didn't want to go there. Found good reviews for Harbor Inn- called to make the reservation and we were satisfied. Its a cottage style so you can park directly in front of your room- no one upstairs from you. The room has the two sinks- one in the bathroom and one outside. Convenient for 2 people. Its very cozy and there is Harbor Cafe walking distance for yummy breakfast! Highly recommend for one of the cheaper/nice finds in Santa Cruz. When I booked it was about $100/night. read more

I chose Harbor Inn because I wanted to be closer to the boardwalk, it was more affordable than a hotel, and it was close to a wedding I was attending in the area. Harbor Inn is a quaint accommodation that feels like a collection of cottages. It's in a residential area, has its own private parking lot, and is close to a lot of restaurants, fast food, and grocery stores. The room is nothing to rave about. The bedding looks old and the bathroom is very small but its spacious enough for all your needs and feels quite homey. The staff was very nice as well. We had a baby with us and Harbor Inn was able to provide a pack 'n play. August was beach season and even though Harbor Inn is close to the boardwalk you can forget about it unless you leave very early in the morning. We tried to make it to the boardwalk around noon and it took forever to get there because of traffic and there was absolutely no parking left. Even though I never made it to the beach, I would still recommend Harbor Inn. It's a little pricey because of beach season but still worth it compared to what the other places were charging. read more

This place is lovely. Cute, quaint, and comfortable. I was looking for something in the Santa Cruz area that was affordable and clean, and this is it! You can see the care and love in this place. The furniture is something else. All antique, it's almost as if you're staying at grandma's house, and getting all the care and love involved in just that sort of visit. Very quiet and quaint. Not on top of the beach, but less than half a mile, and near enough to convenient stores and restaurants. It is actually right down the street from my favorite beach. I was able to walk down to the beach and to some great restaurants. Although there was no bathroom in the room, it was spacious with a microwave, coffee machine, and decent sized fridge and freezer. I was able to freeze my water bottles and bring some things for lunches to save money. I can't stress the cleanliness and care enough. Very friendly staff. I've already been back, and want to plan a birthday get away there sometime soon. read more

Yuck. It's been a week since I've stayed here, and I still don't feel clean. I don't think I ever will. Everything in this dump was covered in a gross layer of grime, absolutely greasy to the touch. Unbelievably cramped. Bugs in the bathroom. Ick!!!!! This place must have changed ownership or something... we thought we would be staying at a cute, affordable b&b by the beach... Reality Check: This is more like a roach motel for prostitutes, drug addicts, and men cheating on their wives during their lunch break (and every combination in between!!!!). If everything in the area wasn't booked or SO expensive last minute, we definitely would have left!!!! (Our car is too small to sleep in, and we were exhausted, ugh!!). Our room didn't even come stocked with towels. Really. I had to ask the woman at the front desk for some, and she was absolutely rude and condescending about it, as if it was just SO much to ask!!! Like.... uhhh sorry???? The one and only upside has nothing to do with the motel, but that there is an awesome, adorable brunch spot on the same block with a full bar and outdoor seating, so I guess 1 star for location sake???? This place is a hidden gem. Off the beaten path and in a quieter residential neighborhood but close enough to walk to breakfast at the Harbor Cafe ( 1 block away and I highly recommend! ) and to the harbor and beach (about 5 blocks away). The room was so quaint and cozy it was like being in a little cottage and it had everything we needed including a fridge, coffee maker, and microwave. Bed was very comfortable. I appreciated that we didnt need to check in or out with anyone, all the details about where to pick up keys were provided via email before we got there. No "frills" here as there is no pool, jacuzzi, continental breakfast, etc. but I would 100% recommend staying here over a noisy chain hotel. read more

We stayed here a couple of years ago. The rooms are small & quaint, filled with antiques--kind of like a B&B without the breakfast. Inexpensive rooms with shared bath or larger rooms with bath. You can walk to breakfast down the street at the Harbor Cafe. In the summer when all the crappy chain hotels downtown raise their rates to ridiculous heights, the price here can't be beat. read more

A decent place at a very reasonable price ($99 with private bath) when everything else in Santa Cruz including no-frills chain motels seems to run upwards of $150. Functionally it's great -- fridge, microwave, and coffee in room, and everything was nice and clean. Walking distance to the beach, Harbor Cafe for breakfast, and Crow's Nest for dinner and drinks. A nice distance away from the touristy Boardwalk area. We didn't love the decor in our room, but no big deal. Every room is a little different. Try to get a room away from 7th Ave if possible, but even if you are in the front facing the street like we were, it wasn't bad. The office isn't staffed after 7:00 pm or in the morning much before checkout time, so this might not be a great place for people who need a lot of attention during their stay. read more

My family of 5 stayed in one of the 2 story rooms. The room was clean and nice. The beds and pillows were comfortable. They had a new flat screen tv in the sitting area, and plenty of channels. Our room was right by the street, but it was quiet. The road noise did not bother us at all. Now the bad---- There was literally no hot water in the shower. The water started off as Luke warm, and 1 minute into the shower the water is cold. Luke warm wouldn't be acceptable to me, but it didn't even stay luke warm. I didn't make my kids take showers while we stayed here, it would have been torture! Also, there are no curtains on the windows. There are some lace things, but they are totally see through. This was especially problematic for us, because our windows both faced the main road. If people walked by they could look right in. I covered both windows with extra sheets, and that was ok with me. I would stay here again, but only if the hot water issue were corrected. Freezing cold showers are not okay with me. read more

BEST DEAL!!! Called the day of and booked a room on Father's Day 2013, when all other hotels were booked out, or way overpriced. This place charges $99 regardless of what day of the week it is, even a holiday. Small, Quite, and Homey little place with everything you need. The décor is old fashioned and looks like your grandmas spare bed room but for $99 whose complaining? On vacation all you do is use your room to sleep, I saved a bunch of money switching to Harbor Inn, you should too! read more

We stayed in one of the double bed, shared bathroom rooms. We had tried to book one night in advance but there was a two night minimum in the summer. Our plan B fell through after we arrived, but the Harbor Inn was happy to give us a room for one night the same day we needed it. Overall, both the room and the shared bathroom were clean. The climate control was non existant and the bedding was thin, but we felt safe crashing there overnight after a late night of drinking. The bed felt tiny. It was definitely a double and not a queen, and there was maybe 4 feet between the one edge of the bed not against the wall. Our only use for this room was to sleep about 6 hours, wash faces, and take off, and it was fine for that. The location was great, very close to the beach, and the room we got was half the price of the downtown hotels. However, I like a cushy hotel so I would only be interested in coming back here if I could reserve a standard hotel room and not a shoebox with a bed in it. read more

Its right next to an industrial lot and you have to share the bathroom, but we never ran into anyone and weren't bothered too much with sharing. Loved this place! Was exactly what I was looking for and at an amazing price. I stayed on a weekday so the communal bathroom wasn't an issue at all. There is a sink in the room so really just the toilet and showers were in the hall. The room was cute and very unique (in a good way!). It was a bit loud on 7th but it didn't really bother me. Walkable to lots of things. If I'm ever in the area again I would stay here again. read more

Hidden Gem!!! This quaint little Inn is situated in the PERFECT location. 3/4 mile walk to the Harbor area where there is plenty of restaurants and bars. We stayed in the King Bed w/ private bathroom. The room was extremely clean. It's a large bedroom with a nice sized bathroom. The bed was very comfortable and appeared to be a newer mattress. The furniture is old and dated but that's kinda the point. It's in great condition and made the room feel just like a local Inn should. We had a brand new smart TV in our room which was nice if you have streaming accounts. The best surprise ever was the fact that it is a 2 min walk from one of the most popular breakfast places in the city!!! It was nice to walk down, put my name on the list and then walk back and wait in the comfort of our room. Harbor Inn gets it right and we will stay again next time we are in town. read more

We booked the one bedroom suite. The room was very clean. The beds were very comfortable too. You are far away from the main part of town so it's not too noisy. The downstairs part of our room was small with a futon and table with two chairs. A small fridge was tucked under the stairs. You had to be careful not to bump your head. The two beds were upstairs. The way the ceiling was slanted you had to be careful not to bump your head when you sat up. I didn't like that the bathroom was right off the sitting area. Gross after someone used it. It was downstairs but the beds were upstairs. Not very convenient. The walls were very thin and I could hear the people going up and down the stairs in the next room. I was afraid it would be a loud night but they quieted by 10 pm. The staff was very very friendly and helpful. The grounds are beautiful with several sitting areas. All in all for the price a nice place to stay if you just need a place to crash. Not sure I'd want to stay several nights. read more

I stayed here in January, I made reservations on the phone with the owner, which was very pleasant. Customer service seemed amazing, we verified the price both online and verbally, $80.00 for both nights, for sure. When I got there I was greeted by another woman who reeked of alcohol (at 1pm on a Tuesday) who informed me, no, it's $80 for one night. Turns out the owner had left town, she would try calling but, was never able to get ahold of her. So, I forked out twice what I was quoted by both "informing" sources (website & owner). We had stayed here before with little to no issues. It was awesome because of the location. THIS TIME our experience was AWFUL. We had booked a stay Friday through Monday with multiple conformations yet when we arrived they informed us that they mixed up our reservation and only booked us until sunday. Even though this was their mistake they offered us a stay through Monday WITH A $150 CHARGE ON TOP of our previous amount. On a positive note, this place was clean, the bed was comfortable and we liked the location. On the other hand, I would like to warn you that if you stay here, you should bring ear plugs and a sleep/eye mask. There is lots of outdoor lights on the building at night and no light blocking curtains, just blinds. Also, very thin insulation in the walls. I was awake 5 am because my neighbor took a shower, which was super noisy. As soon as people started moving around it was too loud to sleep. This place fulfilled all the needs of a quiet well needed two day stay with my wife! It's located in a quiet neighborhood just off the freeway so it's easy to find. The room was very clean and I enjoy that the sink is outside of the bathroom so it allowed us to easily get ready for our wedding we were attending. Location was everything! 4 min walk to harbor Cafe phenomenal breakfast place get their early! 15 minute walk to twin lake and the crows nest area! Along the way there is Dekes a local store where u can buy your snacks. Also L and L bbq if you have that spam masubi cravin! At night if you want a nice dinner go to Crows nest they are open till 11! Watch the sunset along the beach! The thing I like is they provide you a couple of fans that cool off the room! Fridge and microwave provided with a comfy clean queen size bed..200 dollars a night for the private bathroom suite 201 allowed us to relax, bond, and strengthen my relationship with the wife thanks Harbor Inn!! read more

Love, LOVE, LOOOOOOOOVVE this place! So quaint and charming and quiet and comfortable.....just like grandma's house. A hop, skip, and a jump from the yacht harbor and beach, but far enough from the cruisers and late night rebel rousers. I will DEFINITELY be staying here again. The grounds are so lush, green and colorful....rooms are cozy and clean.....AND it's affordable! Why would I stay at a Holiday Inn or Best Western when I have The Harbor Inn?
