I came to this spa as a result of getting a gift card here. The business is located in a shopping plaza with other businesses so depending on the time you visit parking may be an issue. I was greeted at the front of the business, which is the salon, and taken to the rear of the business where my check in continued. After being given paperwork for my massage I was taken right up to Rosanna to get my pedicure. They have a large variety of colors available to chose from. Rosanna was very friendly and explained all the perks of the spa including free drinks like soda and wine and the ability to access the spa and salon. She also explained that if you are getting a massage you can't have wine before or after. There is also a sauna that customers can use while getting services. There is a points program at the business but that was not explained to me. Rosanna did a great job on my pedicure and was done in a timely manner due to my massage appointment being 30 minutes after my pedicure. My masseuse was Liz. She explained the process and asked me about my preferences. The room was clean and relaxing music played in the background during the massage. I would return to the spa. read more

I went here for the first time to get a full balayage and shampoo/haircut/style. I am satisfied with how my hair looks, but I was disappointed by the service, and $60 worth of additional charges were snuck onto my bill without my knowledge or approval. Below is a chronological review of the services I received. Overall, I'd say try this salon with caution. Only go if you know your stylist is good, and look at your bill VERY carefully!! If they charge you for something that they did not discuss with you prior to service, then ask them to remove that charge - don't let them charge you for things without your knowledge or approval! The cut: My stylist helped me decide which cut to get, which I appreciated. However, she wasn't very careful about where the hair trimmings fell, and I had "hair splinters" all over my shirt and pants. Those short hair trimmings can be quite sharp, and they made me quite uncomfortable throughout my time at the salon. The balayage: My stylist used the teasing method to balayage my hair, and it hurt. In addition to pulling my hair down while balayaging, she also forcefully pushed my hair up to the roots each time she teased it, and I was very uncomfortable. However, she never checked if I was okay or asked if she was using too much pressure. I'm aware that getting your hair done means your stylist will be manipulating and pulling your hair, and I'm not tender headed. In my opinion she was too rough with my hair and her use of pressure went beyond what was necessary to do my hair. The shampoo: During the shampoo, my stylist splashed me in the face multiple times and got shampoo in my eyes. She also pulled my hair a lot, which hurt. I don't know if she meant to use that much force or if her nails were catching on my hair (it looked like she had fake nails on or dip powder/gel polish that could have lifted on the bottom and caught on my hair), but it was very uncomfortable. The style: Overall the styling process was fine, but my stylist did accidentally hit me in the face with the blow dryer. It was a light bump, but I was very disappointed given everything else that had happened. The additional charges: I booked a balayage with cut/shampoo/style for $189 online. However, the receipt also included $34 for "color glaze" and $26 for "additional color". Throughout the service, my stylist did not discuss color glaze or additional color with me, and I was not informed of these charges when I checked out. After going home and looking at the emailed receipt, I tried calling the salon multiple times but no one picked up. I went back and asked the receptionist why $60 was added to my bill. She said that the balayage only covers the bleach that they apply, and the color glaze used to color my hair was an additional charge, which is how they "track inventory". She also said the stylist probably used additional color because of the "length of my hair". After my haircut (which was done before the balayage), my hair was shoulder length so I'm not sure if that would warrant additional color. I said I was never informed of these charges prior to the service, so the receptionist took the charges off. I'm glad the issue was quickly resolved, but it should not have happened in the first place. I find it very odd that the balayage price only includes the bleach that they apply to your hair, and they don't disclose this on their website, when you make your appointment, when you come in, or during the service. Apparently, any other color they use is an additional mystery charge that you are not informed of ahead of time. I talked to my friend who got her hair done at Bella Trio 1.5 years ago and had recommended the salon to me. She pulled up her emailed receipt, and she was charged $25 for "color toner add on" and $20 for "extra color". She said she also wasn't informed prior to service that those charges would be added to her bill. She didn't check her bill, so this was her first time seeing these charges that were tacked on. I'm extremely disappointed in the lack of price transparency here! It seems like Bella Trio adds these charges to their services without telling customers and takes it off only if you ask. read more

My friends and I went here for her pre-wedding preparations. We came in a party of six and they didn't arrange our times to have everyone be taken care of at the same time. Instead, two of us had to stay behind the rest of the group to be serviced - we were there for a total of 2.5 hours for a mani/pedi. There were five aestheticians total... even 6-5 is less than 2. Decent decor but completely empty rooms for spa services (massages/facials/laser, etc.). People only came here for their nails. And after I was serviced, I even wondered why. The service was horrible. Sure, the other service staff brought us water and coke, but at least two of the aestheticians were extremely rude. Neither did a very good job of filing our nails and both made us feel bad for asking to re-file them. Connie actually initially denied me service for my nails - she suggested only trimming and buffing them instead of manicuring them - because she had a client at 4. I had gotten there at 2 and had waited over an hour. So she handed me over to another aesthetician. Wth? The French/American (lighter, creamier lining with the color Marshmallow instead of white) manicures we received were among the worst I have seen - thick, crooked, uneven lines. My right hand was okay, my left hand was done in a hurry and more uneven. My aesthetician at home (Amy at the Nail Place) would cry in horror if she saw my nails. Rude service, terrible skills. With every other Groupon-like deal offering laser hair removal, it's hard to choose or know if you picked a good one. It was by chance that I ended up purchasing the deal for Bella Trio, since I'm already a client there. But I'm so glad I ended up there instead of somewhere else! I have several treatments to go before I'm (hopefully) hair-free; but from what I've experienced so far it's 5 stars. For ratings of their mani and waxing services, please see my prior review. Here, I'll talk about the laser services. My consultation (given the success of the deal sale) was done in a group of about 20 women. But it was no less informative. We were sent forms to look over beforehand, and then Joy -- who performs the treatment -- walked us through the before, during, and after and addressed any concerns. She's a registered nurse, which made me feel more comfortable, but besides having a professional manner she's also very friendly with great bedside manner. My first treatment was today. Joy talked me through everything as we went, but also mixed in some small talk to take my mind off the discomfort! The ice packs appropriately numbed the skin and the heat from the laser was only moderately painful. Amazingly, Joy gives her cell phone out to all her patients and actually encourages you to call if you have any concerns. She told me: "There are no stupid questions." Worth noting that Joy rents a room from Bella Trio, rather than being an employee there. Because of this, the front desk is not always prepared to make appointments for you; this has been a little frustrating, but considering the volume of clients since the Groupon I guess it makes sense. I have to conclude by saying that it's incredible that Joy has had 600 deal buyers walk through her doors -- and yet, I still came out of there today feeling like I was her only client! read more

I wrote an earlier review glowing about Eddy. I meant every of what I said about him. He is simply amazing. Unfortunately, my last experienced at Bella Trio has forced me to retract some of my comments about the salon itself. April 25th was my wedding day. My mother, son and husband all had appointments for hair. My husband also had a wax appointment. My mother, as the mother of the bride, should have been treated like a queen. Instead, her stylist, Mia, was simply awful to her. She didn't style my mother's hair in the way she asked, and when my mother told her that she couldn't live with the helmet head style that was created for her, Mia responded by passive aggressively tearing a brush through my mother's hair, from the root down. Any novice knows that to untangle a person's hair, you start at the bottom, and work upward, to avoid tearing, ripping and potential pain. Mia, as a tier 4 or 5 stylist surely knew this but she was angry and deliberately caused my mother pain. My mother yelped in pain, and asked her to stay at the bottom. This should NEVER have happened. Then there was the woman who worked on my son and my husband. Her name is KC. She did a terrible job. My son is tender headed with thick fine hair. When my son complained that the blow dryer was burning his head, she didn't stop or turn the heat down or make any attempt to cool his head. When he told her he didn't want his hair slicked straight back she informed him that I said that's what I wanted done - not true. I said I wanted it swept back, not slicked and gelled ala Draco Malfoy. She refused to listen to him and just did what she wanted, regardless of his comments (he's 15 not five). Then it was time for my husband's hair. He explained to KC what he wanted done (a blow dry and straighten) . A week prior he had seen Eddy who did it perfectly. KC, however, did an awful job, and when my husband told her it wasn't what he wanted and didn't look right, she told him she didn't know how to do it. Excuse me?! This is a top tier salon; if a stylist doesn't know how to do something, then why is she scheduled for the work, especially when the salon knew a week in advance what my husband was coming in to have done on his WEDDING DAY?!?! I am beyond annoyed. As I said, I stand behind my comments about Eddy, he is a superb stylist and solely because of him, I will continue to go to Bella Trio. However, I am furious that my mother and son were treated so poorly and that my husband was assigned a stylist who couldn't even do a simple blow out and straighten. My husband's hair is thick and difficult to manage but these people are supposed to be the best in the business. Clearly some of them are not. Tiffany, Eddy, Stephanie and Sarah are all great stylists. But I cannot vouch for anyone else and I would warn anyone against seeing Mia or KC after the nightmare my mother, son and husband endured. read more

Ashley is amazing with both cut and color. Zero complaints with her services, she rates 5 stars. Getting my hair done is serious relaxation time for me. Sadly, the Bella Trio salon at Sutton Station feels like any random strip mall salon (think Fantastic Sams or Borics). My last service was nearly $300 (root touch up, highlights), so you'd think I could at least process in a comfortable chair. The waiting area at the front of the salon has extremely uncomfortable, badly padded bench seats. While I've enjoyed working with Ashley, I'm looking for a salon that provides similar excellent services with a more comfortable, indulgent environment, particularly at these prices. read more

Had an awesome mani/pedi with Ashleigh! First time I've ever had a mani/pedi that didn't result in my bleeding or pain of some kind. So needless to say it was divine. Really recommend buff and shine service for guys. I hate it when women ask me what color haha. She recommended the buff first and made me feel not so self conscious about being the only guy in the room. My wonderful bosses sent our office to Bella Trio for a mani/pedi afternoon with wine, champagne, fruits and cheeses. It was a wonderful surprise--we work for the BEST dentists. Our experience was great. I can't speak for anyone else, but my mani/pedi was the best I've ever had. Ivy took care of me and she is a perfectionist. It's damn near impossible to find a reliable, good wax technician in the Durham area. I have to say this place so far exceeds my expectations. I've been to the other places. I've tried to save money by going to chains and some sketchy looking places, but at the end of the day, I'd rather have a good, hygienic wax rather than save a few dollars. (Shout out to Angela!) But still, I don't want to spend $60+ every month either. This place is a good, in the middle place. The staff is very friendly and the salon is quiet and comfortable. They even offer a snack and water while you wait. I've also had my nails done here, and while I think it's too expensive for what I got, I wouldn't be opposed to it again. The ladies who do nails are very competent and talented, and what may be most important to some people, they speak English. I've never had a massage here, but they do offer a lot of options for that. Plus there's a sauna, which is kinda cool too. Plus it seems like they're very well set up for Bridal Groups. I've never seen one, but I think they have a small room set up for groups, I guess it doesn't have to be a Bridal Group, but it just doesn't seem like the environment for a Stag Party :) So moral of this review, if you want a good wax, go here. read more

After a not so awesome haircut at another undisclosed salon, I came here to get my layers fixed and evened out. I got a recommendation to come here from a few girlfriends, specifically for a hairstylist by the name of Treson. Before I moved here, I had the same hairstylist for years. We had the kind of relationship where she knew how I wanted my hair done each and every time. EXACTLY the way I wanted it. I'm a creature of habit and my haircut hasn't changed in years. What can I say, I'm a big fan of consistency. So when I moved here, I totally had a "what am I going to do without you?!" moment with her. Though my loyalty still stands with my hairstylist back home, I must say that Treson does great work and is outrageously detail oriented and thorough. He explained what he was doing with my hair the entire time and has a tendency to explain things a lot because he's also an instructor at a local beauty school. Once he told me he was an instructor, I figured he had to be legit and the results of my haircut proved it. He did a great job evening out my hair and I'm definitely happy with my haircut. Their prices are fairly average here. I have long hair and paid $50 for the cut, which I thought was pretty worth it. For those who've had traumatic hair experiences and need a fix, definitely give Treson and this salon a try. read more

Ambiance is lovely, but the estheticians are inconsistent. Bella Trio is a bit of a drive from my house, but I used to make the journey mostly because of the PRICE and CLEAN environment. When you're getting a wax you don't want to mess around with germs. Their waiting area has just the right kind of snacks and drinks to hold you over between running errands. It is a wonderful place to relax before your service. I've been waxed by a variety of estheticians at this salon and they vary significantly. The WORST was a woman who shamed me for waiting so long between waxes (hello? I'm here aren't I?), looked disgusted at my hair and would show me what she had pulled out (obviously I don't like it either, that's why I'm getting it removed...and I should say that I am not the most apelike person in the world), and asked me what I did for work in an accusatory "how are you able to come here in the middle of the day" kind of way. I informed her that I was working at Duke teaching and she looked doubtful and asked me my age. Am I here for a wax or the third degree? She told me that she was a doctor in her homeland. What was I supposed to say? It was all very uncomfortable, and yet I saw her more than once. Shame on me. There are a couple of good waxers at the salon who will small talk and get the job done well, but my favorite waxer left so I've been going to the Retreat at Brightleaf these days. If you call for an appointment make sure to see someone that you know is kind. Tip: The BEST part about this salon are the MEN'S NIGHTS, which feature insanely low prices and fun extras like beer and pizza. I just treated myself to self care day at Bella Trio. My massage with Liz was outstanding. She used the exact right amount of pressure and I felt so incredibly relaxed after. She was also very entertaining to chat with. For those who prefer no conversation I'm certain she would also be just as accommodating. After my massage I headed down to the salon for a shampoo and cut with Bridget. She managed to accomplish getting rid of all of my split ends while maintaining my length, so she's pretty much a magician. Also all of this was completed with a fabulous blow dry in just 30 minutes. Moving forward this will certainly be my choice of salon. All of the employees throughout the entire place were incredibly pleasant and seemed very happy which I appreciate. A week after I wrote my review for Bella Trio, I got my brows waxed again. I don't know exactly why but a swath of skin got torn off my face. It didn't end up scarring, but it was pretty scary (since it was ON MY FACE). I don't know if this was error on the part of the technician or just a fluke that my skin decided to be extra weak. I can say that it has never happened to me before and I'm not an eyebrow waxing newbie. The girl who was waxing me does get credit for trying to tell me how to treat the area so it would heal quickly. That being said, I haven't been back. Ahhhhh just seeing the Bella Trio name makes the stress melt away. It is pricey but we got a couples massage gift certificate and it has to be one of the best gifts I've ever received. The sauna, nice robes, champagne and chocolate covered strawberries really set the mood. I'm fairly certain I hadn't felt that relaxed in years. I called Monday morning and got an appointment right away. I have had massages and facials before but this was a great experience. As soon as I got there I was ushered upstairs to the spa area. The staff was very friendly and not overly cheerful. For some reason I just hate going to a spa where the staff is extra perky, it just reads as fake. I started with an hour massage with the upgrade of hot stones. Christina was an amazing massage therapists, she let me know what she was about to do and she picked up that I did not want to talk so she left me alone. Overall, I was very relaxed and will never do another massage without hot stones. The facial was pretty standard but for the price I could have had better. Overall, I would go back for a massage but I would skip the facial but if you are on a budget you may want to try another place. But if you are looking to splurge on yourself then this is the place for you. read more

I have gotten both massages and waxing here and found both to be enjoyable. For waxing, the price is right, the estheticians are knowledgeable and fast, and although I've been to at least 5 different people (I usually call last minute and don't have the luxury of getting the same person), they have all done a great job. I usually only get my brows done, but the pain factor is very minimal too with the wax they use. For massages, although Bella Trio isn't the most luxurious spa I've been to (no saunas, steam rooms or fancy showers - showers, yes, but nothing huge/luxurious), the prices are good, it's clean and well-decorated, and the masseuses do a great job. Ask for Tim. He makes you feel very comfortable and gave me the best deep tissue massage I've had around here. read more

In need of a haircut, I am thinking about hitting up Bella Trio again. I have been going there for random cuts/coloring for a few years now and am always pleased. I am terrible at remembering names - so I will be of no help with whom to schedule an appointment with - but I have liked all of the stylists there. Being a natural (cough cough) red head, I am willing to spend top dollar when treating myself, like every other year, to keeping the "fire" blazing. I only had a pedi there once, with my pedi-partner-at-large Christina G., and I don't remember being too pleased. If it wasn't for my pregnant friend making a massage recommendation to my pregnant self, I wouldn't have thought of getting a pre-natal massage at Bella Trio. I scheduled a pre-natal massage this morning, and was set up with Kristen that afternoon. It was great, especially since I had nothing else planned for the afternoon, on a remarkably rainy, cold day. To start off, the spa section of the business is great, quiet and a calming atmosphere. Not too big which I liked, and everyone working there was very friendly. I was offered water immediately, and there is a changing room with little closets to leave your things while slip into a warm robe! The massage itself was very nice, and my masseuse did a really great job handling my back and shoulders considering I'm 8 months pregnant. It was wonderful. She also just talks if you talk, which I like. I'm not a big fan of a masseuse who talks to you the whole time, but Kristen was great and left me with some great tips for my muscles and pregnancy aches at the end. Overall, I love this place and will be going back. I ESPECIALLY liked that Bella Trio DOES NOT pressure you into a membership!! The last spa place I went I in Southpoint Durham would NOT let me leave without signing up for a membership, it was terrible. I had JUST moved to the area 3 weeks prior and they were all over me for my home address, discounted monthly plans and blah blah blah. I move frequently, and one of the most painful things to find is a great hair stylist and colorist. A friend recommended Sarah White at Bella Trio, and I was so happy after my first visit. I have blonde highlights, and Sarah always does a fantastic job - the color is consistent and the cut is on-point. After two years, Sarah is a true friend - and the rest of the staff is so accommodating when I need to reschedule and attentive throughout every appointment. Facilities at both locations are great, and the salon seems to invest in their stylists - as Sarah often talks about attending continuing training in New York. I called and was able to get an appointment within 20 minutes for waxing, I also wanted a haircut but they were all booked up today. I showed up 10-15minutes early and was helped as soon as I walked in the door. They took me upstairs and since it was my first visit I filled out a short questionnaire that took all of one minute to complete. Tiffany did my face waxing today and was super great. She really took her time and let me look in the mirror over and over again to let her know if she missed anything or if I was unhappy. As far as pain goes, this was about as painless as it gets when it comes to waxing. The atmosphere was very relaxed and she moved quickly and efficiently. I always go here for a reflexology massage and have a great experience. They have a particular male therapist, whose name escapes me, but who I adored. He was very attentive and always talked with me afterwards about particular problem points for me and how I could remedy those. I did get a manicure here one time and thought it was far less than stellar. Rushed and not excellent technique. Skip the nail services and go for a more "spa-like" experience. read more

I went to the one on American Tobacco and it's nowhere near worth the cost of their services. I paid $50 for a gel manicure, no way should my nail paint lift within 6 hours. The gel is see through and it's raised as if the initial gel polish was old and didn't go on smooth enough. The manicurist filed my nails so uneven; I have no idea how she got her license. I would recommend going to a different salon. It's not worth them being late to your appointment on top of ugly nails. Go elsewhere. read more
