In my honest opinion, I saw like two bad reviews for this place so I was kind of hesitant to come here to get my hair done. But since a majority of the reviews were good, I thought why not. This is my very first salon coloring experience and I was very scared. They could either do an amazing job or screw it up. I didn't want to be one of those customers that threw a tantrum about my hair. Because my hair is pretty much my life. I went in for a consultation and Kari was extremely sweet. She seemed to understand what I wanted so I trusted her and made an appointment. When I went in for my appointment, she got started immediately. She is an extremely friendly and sweet person. I don't think I've ever had such a nice conversation with a hair stylist ever. Long story short, she made my hair look absolutely A-MAZING. My hair feels healthy, comfortable, and the color is exactly how I wanted it to be. Oh, she also gives one killer head massage. It might've been to rub the shampoo in but still, it felt great! I got a balayage and it was $100. I think it was completely worth the money. As an Asian with pretty much virgin black hair, I noticed that while I was there for the 2 hours, I was still the only Asian. I'm not saying they are racist, but, if you are Asian and looking for a good salon, this salon will take care of your dark hair. Trust me. They know what they are doing. If you're looking for an experienced hair dresser in the cutest little salon, she is your gal. Especially with the pandemic going on, it's hard to find a hair salon that can give you the full service without breaking any Heath code rules. You get an entire room to yourself so it is super covid-friendly. And I personally love my long hair and hate when hair dressers tell me I need to cut off more than I want. She new the exact amount to take off and she killed it on my partial foil. She is very open and honest about end results and whether they are achievable. She softened the layers so now the uneven layers are hidden. If I were to go back to this salon, I highly recommend Shaina. She has a lot of experience and seemed very knowledgeable. *** I was disappointed because I'd gone on yelp to see 5 stars and really great comments about the salon. So then I wanted to try it out a couple weeks ago. For a $50 haircut, it ended up being extremely disappointing. I asked for layers for my hair starting from just below my chin and my layers were extremely choppy and uneven throughout my head. It seems like my layers behind my head were shorter than by my chin. From the side view, the layers look like a staircase rather than a gradual slope down. Im giving two stars because my stylist was very nice, just the quality of the haircut was not good. I'm not one to complain and so that's why it's been a couple weeks, but it's really bothering me and even friends have noticed the choppiness of the haircut. read more

I was in the process of growing my hair out and it was shoulder length. The hair stylist thinned out the bottom of my hair so much I had to chop my hair to my chin. This review is for Tess. I needed my hair color corrected due to a horrible diy dye job. So, I looked at a few salons on yelp that received major kudos specifically for their coloring technique. I would've gone anywhere within a 50 mile radius if it meant I was getting service from someone who knew exactly what they were doing when it comes to fixing wonky hair color. Fortunately, Tess' name kept coming up in my research and the nearby Belle Marie was a generally high-rated salon. So, I decided to go with them. I was so happy to get an appointment with Tess. She was very professional in assessing the situation and in letting me know that it might take a few visits before we get to our desired results. I was quite embarrassed with my hair when I got there, but she made me feel like she could handle it. After a long process, which consisted of a little bit of everything - foiling, balyage, toning, adding lowlights - I couldn't be happier with the results. She was patient with my hair and more importantly, focused on getting the job done. I was in the hands of a true pro. I made another appointment for further adjustments to my color, but after just a couple of days from my initial visit, I'm already really loving the way it looks as is. It was my first time at Belle Marie Salon. I had an appointment with Sarah. She's so bubbly and cheerful, you can tell right off that she absolutely enjoys doing her job. I was glad to see that and it made me so calm, even though I always freak out when ppl cut or die my hair. We went through my ideas, I also got some pics, which Sarah was happy about. She then started doing her amazing job. She explained me every step while she was doing it and we had fun chitchatting in the meantime. I just love how cheerful she is! I heart Belle Marie Salon! I'll admit I have what I think is the worst hair ever, it's thin, fine, oily...fun stuff! But Divina at Belle Marie can totally handle my hair. She recently talked me into a short, inverted bob and it's my absolute favorite hairstyle in a VERY long time. My daughter (4) also had her hair cut by Divina, and although it's not exactly a "kiddie" type of environment, Belle Marie had tons of books/coloring books for her to use at while she was there. I've been dying to go extremely short for awhile now, and after reading that Maria specializes in short cuts, I decided to take the plunge on my very first visit. I am pleased with how my hair turned out. I showed some pictures to Maria prior to the cut, and we talked about what would work best with my hair/face. She was extremely attentive to detail and told me to call her if anything seemed off once I got home. The gigantic pile of hair on the floor after she was done was quite a sight! I got exactly what I asked for, only better. I've received a ton of compliments on my new cut and am completely thrilled about how quick it is to style. It's basically wash and wear. Maria is the goddess of fabulous hair. True story. I discovered Belle Marie via a search for Oribe salons in the area. If you're not familiar with the product, it's AMAZING. I thought it changed my hair, but I hadn't seen anything until I met Maria. I originally came to Maria with severely damaged hair, thanks to an ombre gone bad. Not only did she give me the "quick fix" treatment by making it look less horrific, she worked with me to develop a long-term plan to making my hair gorgeous. I'm five months in and my hair looks better than it has ever looked before! My hair is naturally very fine so finding a stylist has always been an issue. I tend to hop around from place to place without actually feeling satisfied. NO MORE. Maria is honestly the holy grail of hair and as long as I'm in Seattle, I'm never going anywhere else. (If I ever move, I may even fly back for appointments. She's that good.) In addition to her serious hair skills, she has a FABULOUS personality and is an absolute joy to talk to. A session with her is like catching up with your best friend. Bottom line: if you can get in (she's especially busy on nights/weekends), you're crazy not to see Maria. read more

A couple years ago, I went to Maria on an offhand referral from a barely-known acquaintance, and it changed my life. Seriously! She gave me a makeover-ish haircut that completely updated my look when I didn't even know I needed it, and it changed my entire appearance. The owner Maria has been doing my hair for 5 years now and I refuse to go to anyone else. She is amazing! I have extremely long thick hair so getting a hair cut only comes around 2-3 times a year for me. I get scared if more than 3 inches are cut off of it but by only trimming it, she can turn my look completely different and leaves it so it grows out nice and healthy with all of the layers. I've gone to a few other stylists before while Maria was in transition of opening this salon and seemed unsatisfied every time else where. I've gone to her twice now for haircuts, and I have to say going to this Salon and seeing Tess resulted in the FIRST time I have ever like a haircut right from the start. There's no waiting to get used to it, or letting the cut grown in a bit, it's amazing as soon as she blow dries. Not to mention, she's great at styling. Even just simple curls after she's cut your hair. Sometimes you leave a salon looking like a poodle, but after she does my hair I can go straight to dinner or just home without looking out of place. I've been seeing Liz since 2016 and I refuse to go to anyone else!!! Liz is an incredible stylist, and really listens to her clients about what they want to achieve with their hair. At one point I went from blonde, to red, back to blonde within a couple months right before my wedding (sorry Liz!)! She was able to create the look I wanted for this huge day, and my hair still felt healthy at the end of it. Not only is she is an excellent stylist, she is also a great person to talk to and I truly enjoy spending a couple hours in the chair chatting about life. Shaina did an amazing job on my drab hair that I hadn't tended to. She came highly recommended and it met my expectations by far! I'm not too particular with what I want, so after telling her how my hair behaves and the amount of time i want to put into it, she was able to give me a beautiful cut! I adore Kelli Ramaker! I've been trusting her with my tresses for a decade now, through long layers and a blunt bob, through balayage, highlights and lowlights, even with my wedding day hairstyle. She has a gift for listening to what you want, for recognizing your hair's texture and quirks, and for finding the right cut and color to suit all those factors. She also is full of good ideas for those times when you just aren't sure *what* you want. I especially appreciate her gift with color: she brings out the best in my hair and features without making it look obviously "done." After years of disastrous haircuts and salon visits I really didn't trust anyone cutting my long hair since most of the time they would just cut way too much off. Then I came across Belle Marie salon via internet and it's reviews impressed me so I decided to check them out. The first time I came in I just got a cut by Kari and it was amazing! She kept my hair long but still healthy looking and I got so many compliments. This week I decided to do a purple balayage with Kari as well. Due to the nature of my dark hair, the purple didn't show up very well the first time but Kari offered me to come in again and now it's very vibrant & perfect and I'm so happy! I first came into Belle Marie in January, after having two pretty bad experiences with Gene Juarez. The owner of BM understood how quickly I wanted to get in and worked with my schedule to find something right away. She recommended Liz for what I needed done and I just adore her! I came into the salon with dark brown hair colored over a (very stubborn) loud red, and hoped to get back to blonde. Oy. Liz explained that it would be a process (including the whys and hows) and after three visits I'm SO happy to say that I'm nearly there! Not only is her coloring well done, but she showed me how to best style my hair after GJ gave me a too-short-too-choppy cut. AND I just really love chit-chatting with her - SO important in a stylist, especially when your appointments last for hours at a time. I highly recommend Liz if you're thinking of giving Belle Marie a try! I just moved to the east side from Tangletown and I now make the trek over to see her because she's worth it. read more

I am pretty happy with my hair cut done by Sarah. However, I thought it would have been more helpful if the website mentioned something about the serious lacking of parking spaces around the salon. I spent plenty of time in the Roosevelt neighborhood last year from January to June and I thought I knew all the places to park. Guess I was wrong to assume that whole foods, Roosevelt square, and Roosevelt high school had parking spaces. There is now more construction going on in the neighborhood than ever and I was not aware that that much parking spaces would been taken up. Because of this, I was still 10 min late to my appointment even when I drove as fast as I could (coming only from u district--not far at all) and ran two blocks. Then the hair cutting process went fine but it wasn't until I got back to my car and saw my face closely in the mirror that I saw little pieces of hair scattered all over my face. My hair stylist somehow didn't bother to tell me that I had hair on my face; it's not like I was going to make her clean the hair off of my face anyway so I don't understand why she couldn't just even tell me. Anyway I was in a good mood on the day of the hair appointment so I didn't want to ruin it by writing up a long review about it, but here it is. read more

I first came to Belle Marie Salon over a year ago and had a great haircut with Sarah. I chose Sarah because I liked her stylist page and she seemed to understand how to personalize haircuts to suit your face shape. She was friendly and easy to get along with. She really took her time with my hair and she is meticulous about what she is doing. I typically grow my hair out and then get it cut to donate but this year the Seattle heat wave was killing me so I decided to get it cut earlier. I intended to schedule an appointment with Sarah but she was not available for a few weeks out so I decided to try another stylist since I had such a great experience the first time. I choose the first available stylist and read her profile. I showed the stylist a few pictures of what I wanted and she did not ask any follow up questions so I assumed that she knew what I wanted. My stylist was nice and friendly but I was a bit disappointed with my haircut. It was a bit uneven, not really what I wanted, shorter than I had expected, and she did not fully dry my hair. In retrospect, I guess I should have given her more direction. When it comes to my hair, I am not typically one to complain because I have thick hair and I know that it will grow back. However, I never got a chance to look at the back of my hair before I left and my boyfriend who never notices my haircuts, pointed out how uneven it was. I attempted to reach out to the Salon and no one picked up so I decided to leave a message. Shaina the owner returned my phone call and was very apologetic she offered me a full refund and to fix my haircut herself. This was more than I had expected. When I met Shaina she was very friendly and again apologetic. I felt bad that I had complained and she told me that I should be happy with my hair and encouraged me to be vocal if I am ever unhappy. I showed her some photos of my hair and what I had wanted and she understood right away. While speaking to Shaina, I learned that she has completed multiple apprenticeships in the US and in Europe so she knows hair well. She understands how to personalize hair and she seems likes someone who actually loves her job. She was able to even out my hair and I was very happy with the result. Summary: I appreciate Shaina as a stylist and as a salon owner because she has high standards for the quality of her work and understands that her customers come first. Before getting a haircut I think that it is important to read a stylist's page carefully so you can choose a stylist that is a good fit for you. For me, I know now to look for stylists who like precision and personalized cuts. After this experience, I will definitely be happy to return for a haircut with Shaina or Sarah and to support Belle Marie Salon. read more
