Last year, we got to see an oud and vocal concert downstairs. It was a delight and a group of volunteers had set up an art station where my child could make buttons. I was promised $850, spent $150 on supplies, paid $320 to workers, and drove 90+ miles -- and I've been ghosted by everyone involved. No one from the City will respond, and the contractor has a history of not paying laborers. This is wage theft, and the City of Kirkland is responsible for letting it happen. I've filed complaints and will take this public until I'm paid.

A good portion of their normal operations are supported by not just their staff..but volunteers. The Juanita Friday Market is 100% volunteer driven. The City Hall receptionist(s)..volunteers. whether you want just a few hours here or there, are looking for a schedule, or want to get involved on a long-term basis, there is positions for you. One time projects, administrative support, events..it's ever-changing and tons to choose from. The City also funds Neighborhood Associations. Through 2 year grants, they allow each defined neighborhood (Juanita, Totem Lake, Rose Hill, Houghton, etc) to establish a volunteer Board non-profit association status to directly improve and support their neighborhoods. There have been great projects founded or carried out by these associations. I've been on the Board of mine for some time now, and it's been a really fun learning experience and a great way to get directly involved in my neighborhood area. I've also been impressed with the City's responses to things like snow removal, clearing leaves from storm drains and various tasks we all love to bitch about when a government isn't doing it to our liking. Their commitment to open space, parks, re-establishing habitats and tree canopies, low-impact development and the environment lifts them above other cities nearby, as well. Sure, there are things I wish they did better, like support small business (I have heard so many nightmare stories from biz owners I know at how difficult it is to work with them), be more transparent and maybe just do things "my way" on a few subjects..but of all the areas I've lived out here..they really do a lot of really cool things and work hard to preserve and support this beautiful area.

Selfishly, I love this stop because it's right next to my office, making it the perfect commute. But this stop is much needed as it's in the hub of Bellevue. Just like other stops on the 2 Line, it's easy to find and access. But this stop will get you right next to The Bravern and city hall, and is walking distance to several office buildings, the transit center and Bell Square. Like I said, it's the hub of Bellevue. I've noticed on certain days, the train has more people riding during the middle of the week, with more people working in the office. But it's never crammed and everyone is able to find a seat on the train. I'm happy that the Bellevue Downtown Station is along the 2 Line, which eventually will get you to downtown Seattle. But I'll take what I can get for now, which is either towards the South Bellevue Park and Ride and downtown Redmond. Glad to have this stop in a convenient location, walking distance to many popular spots.

Got a chance to use the new 2 Line light rail station from downtown Bellevue to Redmond technology…read morecenter. The initial segment, East link extension, opened on April '24, and connects the southern part of Bellevue up to Redmond. When completed in 2025, it will extend all the way to downtown Seattle, connecting to the 1 line. This will allow residents on the East side to take the train all the way to downtown Seattle, and continue to SeaTac and the University of Washington. As for the station itself, it is open air (covered) but graded quite a bit below the entrance (Bellevue is quite hilly). There are stairs (64 steps) going down, and only one escalator going up (modern in that it moves very slowly to indicate that it is working, and then speeds up once someone gets on). One thing that is clear is that the ability to scan your Orca card to pay for the trip is not top of mind: there was only one scanner to the side near the entrance and none of the entrances and exits are gated in any way.

There are plenty of parks and trails to explore, as well as high end shopping and play. If you're around in winter's holiday season, the Annual parade is worth visit. The Bellevue Aquatic Center was a favorite spot of mine. The facility has a lovely warm springs pool great for achy joints after a week of exploring.

I remember going over a bridge and seeing Lake Washington. The water was blue and picturesque. I was in the area back in 2016. I miss it. My employer has an office in Bellevue. Back in 2015, our team was working with a team there. It's how I started to know about the city. I was on vacation when I visited Seattle. I never checked out my employer's office in Bellevue. I was a tourist figuring things out. I remember going into a Best Buy and having a bunch of different associates ask me if I needed help. They were trying to be helpful, but it was almost too much of a good thing. My favourite memory was visiting Thai Ginger. I loved this restaurant so much that I dined at this eatery twice. I hope it's still there so I can enjoy the crab fried rice and yellow curry again. It was excellent and I often think about the food that I had here. Bellevue is a nice city. It's pretty and beautiful. I loved dining and shopping here during my brief visit. I truly need to return and revisit everything. (246)

I got an insider look and am thoroughly impressed with how they do what they do. Calls get picked up within 10 seconds. Ambulances sent in 60. Each dispatcher has an amazing display of screens, resources, and 18 months of training behind them to help provide medical, fire, or police aid, depending on the situation. We (King county) have the highest survival rate for cardiac arrests in the nation because of Norcom (62% in 2013). High-five to that?!

Mostly because there are always new Restuarant additions that give me a chance to try a completely different taste and menu. I highly recommend visiting the mall to anyone living near or far. It will be well worth your time.
