My fiancé and I stayed for a weekend getaway. If you're looking for a relaxing and quiet escape, this is the perfect place! The scenery was breathtaking and the service was excellent. It's a perfect secluded environment right on the bay with some of the best sunset views. The staff were both respectful of our privacy and very attentive if we ever needed anything. My absolute favorite part was the coffee drop-off every morning. Enter through the bathroom which was a tad weird but ok. Tub was nice for soaking after the 1/2 marathon I ran in St Michaels. Everyone has an opinion right?! Please continue to read this post, only if you want to 'hear' mine. I loved the fact that each room had its own parking space. That was genius. You knew that whenever you returned from wherever you went, you had a designated/guaranteed place to park. Very very helpful. Bed The room was very well-maintained, and kept up. The shower, needs some attention. The water pressure was weak. However, this was not an issue that I wanted to call the innkeeper about during my mini vacation. The bed, needs to be thrown away and replaced. This was the worst nights sleep I've gotten in a really long time. I tossed and turned all night long. There was no microwave in the room. I had to go to the office to use a microwave. Doesn't sound too bad, but when you get hungry at 10-11pm and have to get dressed, leave your room and venture out, it's a major inconvenience. The furniture is old, but in good shape. Breakfast Breakfast was delivered daily. The only drawback I have about the food at this B&B, is the second word... Breakfast! Typically, bed and breakfast facilities serve a hearty/bountiful breakfast. This is NOT the case here! The breakfast consisted of yogurt, granola, warm biscuits, cheese, juice, apple coffee, and milk. None of these options were bad, I just wanted a hearty breakfast. I don't do dairy, so to only have yogurt, warm biscuits and honey or granola with whole milk, was a bit disappointing. This was the only option onsite. The other option was to go the the restaurant down the block (with 10% off). The surrounding restaurants are in walking distance. However the food is grossly overpriced. I did not go to any of those places, because of the prices, and some of the reviews were just OK at best. I opted to go "into town" for my meals. If you return to your room at night, be aware that there will be LOTS of bugs. They need to invest in bug lights for the outside areas to reduce our winged friends from attacking. The grounds The resort as a whole, was amazing and picturesque. They have thought about each and every detail. There were snacks readily available at all times. It was very quiet and tranquil. There was always an empty Adirondack chair or lounge to relax in by the water. There are bunnies EVERYWHERE. It was cooked to see rabbits roaming freely. This property is on the water, but there really is no 'beach'. The sandy area is about 4 feet wide and VERY rocky...you MUST wear shoes. Again, this is a waterfront property, not beach front. I would not return. The stay was pleasant but not worth the cost and there is too little to do without driving (25mph) "into town". Please note, the stay was NOT horrible!! It was just different from what I was used to. If you want peace quiet and tranquility, this will be perfect for you. read more

We had a GREAT five-night stay recently - our first time there - and loved it and will definitely be back. Our goal was to disconnect from our work and just relax, and Sandaway is perfect for this because of its beautiful and placid setting. Oxford is a small town with no loud, touristy things beckoning. Sandway and its nearby area is made for relaxing out on the adirondack chairs with the cool river breeze on you. Personally, the main things to mention by way of praise for me are: -Everything is "neat as a pin." Perfectly clean and perfectly well ordered. This is a historical property with something like vintage decor but again everything is in perfect repair and perfectly clean. We joked that our suite's "living room" was like a Wes Anderson film (but *nothing* felt "old."). -Because the family who owns and operates the property have done it for a number of years, it's clear that they have anticipated *everything* one might need or ask by way of clear signage, labeling, their Linktree information portal. I applaud them on a seamless, post-COVID "touchless" administrative environment. -We loved the welcoming bag of goodies and snacks and the starter coffee. Miss Mary and her team kindly brought us more coffee packets on request when we asked. -The view of the town's July 3rd fireworks cannot be beat! -LOVE the bags of ice ready to go on the back porch freezer! -The landscaping is beautiful and carefully kept and maintained. The owners and their staff are clearly hands on. Other Oxford area notes: -Dining options can be counted on one hand in Oxford, but this is fine given the tendency for short stays in town! Breakfast at nearby Oxford Social (great coffee and pastries) or Robert Morris Inn - both a short walk. Lunch and dinner available at the 4-5 nearby restaurants in town or it's a quick drive over to Easton or Cambridge if you want to dine there (we discovered a great restaurant in Easton called Out of the Fire - try it!). -Picnicking also works: pick up groceries and ready-to-go sandwiches at the little Oxford Grocery market and sit out at the town park and picnic -- it's an amazing place, right on the water. -DO NOT MISS the Scottish Highland Creamy ice cream. Just stellar. Some of the best flavors we've ever had and we love ice cream. -We wanted to get out on the water a bit and booked a two-hour historical sailboat cruise on the Selina II at St. Michaels. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this sweet property nestled right directly on the water. Bunnies hop along the property grass eating clover, wide old trees provide canopied shade, the sandy shoreline glitters with pearlescent shells, while hydrangeas in blue and pink sway in the breeze. It's truly picturesque. We stayed in a Queen room facing the ocean with a covered porch. It was MARVELOUS. We spent our afternoon lounging on the porch in the chairs there, watching birds and boats go by. We walked along the water as the tide came in and enjoyed the serene quiet of an adult establishment. I love families as much as the next gal, but it's nice to get away! The accommodations were comfortable and very clean. They provided us with snacks and coffee in our room and even made our very late night check-in a breeze! Would highly recommend to anyone. You can't do much better than this. read more

My family and I stayed at Sandaway for two nights recently and had an amazing time. It is right on the Tred Avon River with stunning views that included watching sailboats from the Yacht Club nearby. Contactless check in was a great touch as when we arrive we parked and just entered our rooms. There was an option to rent a private luxury beach cabana which we took advantage of during our stay. That cabana had a TV so we watched movies that had scenes that were shot in Oxford and nearby St. Michaels like "Wedding Crashers" and "Failure to Launch". Rooms are very clean with plenty of amenities. Oxford is so close to St. Michaels, Easton, and Cambridge you have plenty of activities and sights to see. If you are looking to disconnect for a truly relaxing vacation stay in Sandaway it is worth checking out and staying. My family is certainly staying again next year. read more

I was having a long week and just needed to get away for a bit. So I got in my car and ended up here at 10:30 pm hoping they had an available room. To my surprise they had a cozy little room and made accommodations for my last minute visit after hours. Not just that, but Mr. Ben Gibson gave me a great rate, got me a key and in no time I was enjoying the beautiful view of the water on their lawn chair late at night. My morning was followed by a delicious complementary breakfast in a basket in front of the water as I enjoyed the sunshine, the birds, and the soothing sound of water. My soul needed a quick getaway at such a relaxing and beautiful place. My room was very clean, the private beach is awesome, and Mr. Gibson was very professional, helpful and made my stay even more memorable with a special Sandaway soap gift :) I can't wait to comeback again in a few weeks! read more

This is an excellent place to "get away from it all." There are plenty of restaurants and a general store within walking distance and the breakfast basket is a nice touch. The staff is very helpful and they even fixed a malfunctioning lock on our door within minutes. The WiFi is slow so don't come here expecting to get a lot of work done (you'll enjoy yourself much more this way, actually). With water surrounding you at every turn, this is a beautiful, serene escape. Can't wait to come back. read more

Beautiful place for some peace and quiet time. If you're looking to relax on the beautiful shore, this is your place. I will say though that it is a case of the room looking better on the website than it really is. We were at the beach view room and despite the beautiful porch with incredible scenery, it could use some renovation, for the shower and some other parts. The place is also more expensive than some other Places in the area and refusing a one night stay guests is not something I appreciate. Having said that, everyone are friendly, the place is beautiful, they give you everything you need to enjoy great time at a beautiful place. Would definitely consider coming back. read more

I went to 'Sandaway' with my mom and enjoyed a fantastic weekend. It's seems that they've thought of everything. Sandaway is lovely and in a great location - you can walk everywhere in the town of Oxford and you're right on the water. Sandaway isn't big enough that you feel crowded, and there is plenty of room down by the water. Going with my mom was interesting - Sandaway was filled with couples enjoying anniversaries, but we enjoyed ourselves nonetheless. The views are unbeatable. Peaceful get away. The claw foot tub was amazing. I was able to walk to dinner both nights I was here. If you need shopping beyond the general store, there are relatively new shopping centers about 15 mins drive away. The bed was comfy. Some things could use updating - the loveseat was a bit faded and some walls were oddly cracked as if the foundation had shifted. Service at check in and for breakfast serving (I missed my delivery by sleeping in, but they happily fixed me one once they saw me up and about). read more

I used a groupon to take a little 2 night getaway to Sandaway. This place was absolutely beautiful. The waterfront view was spectacular. I stayed in the tuckaway cottage. I was initially a little sad that I didn't have one of the screened in porch rooms but overall no complaints. The room was well maintained and so comfortable. I will definitely go back again. I had a wonderful experience at Sandaway. The staff were very welcoming, friendly, and accommodating throughout our entire stay. There was initially a huge miscommunication - I received a Groupon for a one night stay but after booking my stay, they called to inform me that my Groupon was for two nights. I tried to argue that it said one night but the woman insisted it was for two. When we got there and I explained the situation, they informed me that my Groupon was in fact only for one night but they would see what they could do. An hour later we got a note under our door apologizing for the miscommunication and informing us that they would honor the Groupon price (versus their regular price) for our second night if we still wished to extend our stay. We accepted this generous offer and I'm so glad we ended up staying the extra night. read more

We stayed here a couple of years ago after discovering it on Groupon. We ended up driving from New York in August and were desperate to get out of the city. Coming from New York, Oxford MD was such an odd place. The property itself is beautiful and very well maintained. Our room was very nice, the sheets were AMAZING (we ended up registering for them for our wedding almost 2 years later they were THAT memorable), and the screened in porch was awesome. The price for the room was a little on the steep side considering the quality of the room. And the town of Oxford MD has a population of about 10. There are like 3 restaurants in the entire town, it was so small it was almost eary. We ended up driving to the next town over for a Farmer's Market and antique shopping which was lovely. read more

Gorgeous Property, Great Location! My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights in the Tuckaway Cottage. The cottage was immaculate, top to bottom, well kept and as quant as can be, so charming! The staff were friendly and delivered the cutest breakfast basket to our room every morning. The property has amazing views of the bay and is simply beautiful! They have lots of nice sitting areas, hammocks and a cute boat house stocked with drinks and snacks! Our one-night stay in the Tuckaway Suite was wonderful. Large king room, yummy sheets, comfy bed, vaulted ceiling, homey furnishings, flat-screen TV....the bathroom is huge and the two-person tub and toilettries really made it special. The Tuckaway is it's own little building; you have an amazing view of the river and an immense Weeping Beech Tree across the lawn. Very private. Our lunch and dinner steps away at the Robert Morris Inn were really 5-star as well. You feel like you've walked into an old lodge in Britain or Scotland...with better food! Our basket breakfast at Sandaway was just right. Oxford is quaint, no real shopping, but lovely homes for walking the neighborhood. Beautiful Views! The ferry over to St. Michaels was right across the street from Sandaway. Very convenient. All in all, a wonderful escape. read more

I normally don't tend to read reviews but I did for this occasion. I booked a Deluxe, King, bay front room for our One year anniversary. I didn't know what to expect but I convinced myself that since the room rate was so expensive, it would be good. Well it did not disappoint at all, my wife and I were very pleased with the property, the room and the staff. This is an ideal place for a nice little getaway. We plan to come back again. Since the Sandaway does not serve food, I would recommend heading over to Schooner's, steer clear of the Robert Morris Inn as it is over prices and the food is average. The Sandaway breakfast basket was perfect, just be aware of what you are getting and there should be no problems. We sat out on our porch and enjoyed the basket selections. read more

We had privacy, a stunning view and everything we needed. It's so peaceful and quiet, you won't want to leave. Get the breakfast basket and share it on your porch or out on the lawn. My partner and I loved this place. We purchased a daily deal for one night stay last July, which we used in December for our anniversary. Although we were only there one day and night, we were truly transported the whole time we were there. Sandaway is a wonderfully quiet and restful location. There are no tvs in the rooms. I'm not even sure there was internet - we didn't bother to check. The view of the river from the waterfront porches was much more compelling than checking email. I found myself drawn out of bed at 2:00 in the morning to go down by the water - just to watch the moonlight play on the surface and take in the utter, complete quiet of the surroundings. All that peace and tranquility comes at a price we could not have justified without the daily deal (I think the room we had is $300 a night regularly), but we have kept our eyes open for other savings. If you can afford it, or can get one of the daily deals, I can't recommend Sandaway enough to anyone who needs to "get away from it all" and decompress. I very much enjoyed reading the guestbook that was in our room, and appreciated all the stories from guests who'd stayed before us. The handful of staff we interacted with were great, including the kindly older gentleman who brought us our breakfast basket and substituted the carafe of coffee for hot water and tea bags upon our request. read more

I and my friend stayed here a few years back for a long weekend. The place is fabulous although it is expensive. Back then it was under some sort of joint ownership with the owners of the Robert Morris Inn, but I think it is under separate ownership now. It is nice to have a private, screened porch over looking the Choptank River. The lawn has a number of nice Adirondack chairs which are very comfortable. That is, if the insects aren't too obtrusive. There are less expensive places to stay in Oxford, but this is the nicest one. So, if you aren't on a budget this is your best bet. read more

Deceiving B&B, sorry. A basket of supermarket packaged food it's not a breakfast from a B&B. To be told that we can go to a restaurant nearby (owned by them?) and say that we're a guest at Sandaway so to get 10% off our breakfast tab it's also not worthy. Do I care to save 10% on a $20-30 tab, get dressed and go out for breakfast? Do I want to spend extra money for a hot decent breakfast at a restaurant while staying at a B&B? When you have paid hundreds ($600) for this "B&B" it just doesn't feel right or comfortable. These are details that you would want would to know in advance so to make an informative choice... just like to know that to go to the bathroom I have to get out of our locked quarters, it means to put something on so to be decent. I absolutely love this place and Oxford, MD. I'm reluctant to write such a good review because I don't want Oxford to lose its charm. Anyone can go to St. Michael's -- it's quaint and nice, but not as organic as Oxford. Take the ferry over. The Sandaway is perfectly situated across the street from a fantastic restaurant at the Robert Morris Inn. The Gibson family used to own both, but are now concentrating just on Sandaway. I've been here twice and since they began focusing just on Sandaway, the Gibson's have made some nice changes. The views are, and always will be, stunning. But now, they deliver a continental breakfast by basket to your room each morning as requested, with the local paper. The food is just what you need -- yogurt, danish, fruit, juice, coffee, and the staff is fantastic. We stayed on the bottom level with a private porch -- the views were completely worth the price of $297/night including all taxes and breakfast. Ben Gibson and his staff -- Norma and those who bring the breakfast -- couldn't be friendlier. In two hours you are in a completely different world from the hustle of DC. No TVs? No problem -- who wants the idiot box when you can watch the boats sail by, see a fantastic sunset, and just gaze at the glamour of the Tred-Avon and the Bay beyond! Rent some kayaks, bring your bikes, and leave the world behind. I can't wait to go back! read more

I just spent the weekend at Sandaway, and it couldn't have been more delightful. Ben the innkeeper accommodated our late check-in by leaving our keys, maps and guides in the office for us. The room was lovely and spacious, with a king bed, desk, sitting area, fireplace and dresser. The bathroom stole the show with a huge bath tub for two and separate dressing area. And the property couldn't have been lovelier - right on the shore. My only qualm was the breakfast - for a bed and breakfast, I would have hoped for a more substantial meal than a continental spread (pastries, yogurt and fruit) - an omelet would have made this a 5-star review. This place is a little slice of heaven. Spent a relaxing and romantic weekend here with my husband. Beautiful and clean waterfront property with a charming country feel. A delicious basket of breakfast is quietly delivered in the morning. It had granola, apples, cheese, yogurt, juice and coffee. The basket also had a cinnamon coffee cake and an apple topped cinnamon roll type pastry. They were both so yummy!! We ate them on our private screened in porch overlooking the water. My husband woke up early and did some fishing off the shoreline. This spot is hopping with fish! If that's your thing, it's a great spot! We got in pretty late so sadly we missed the sunset on the lake. I was looking forward to it. ... The rooms (ours was water front one) were decent and cozy. I am taking away one star for breakfast. Though they came in delightful baskets there was not much for people like me who don't like too much sweet things +beware if you are a diabetic). Planning to come back in summer. Really greedy people who care more about money than true hospitality. Had a Groupon so I guess why I was treated as a second class citizen. Tried to reschedule due to medical problems and was told I could only come during the week instead of a weekend. Yes the window for the use of the Groupon was ending, but there was no understanding whatsoever that I was dealing with a medical problem and not just cancelling on a whim. Money rules over compassionate understanding with these folks . Corporate rules and big bucks rather than heartfelt compassion and kindness seem much more important. read more

My wife surprised me with this one-night getaway, and I am very glad she did! Ben & the staff are wonderful - courteous and efficient. The room we had (#109) was on the ground floor of a 2 story house with a tremendous view, out across the rolling green lawn, bracketed by an huge white oak tree and a triple weeping willow, onto the scenic water channel. Sailboats, ducks - even a Loon - graced our view. It was very quiet at night, and the old claw-footed bathtub in the spacious bathroom offered a great hot, steamy soak after some brisk bike riding. Nice library in the older part of the main house, with TV and wi-fi access...even the great 2nd half of the Kansas victory over Ohio State! Breakfast basket was good & plenty for 2, especially after a late full dinner at Latitude 38 (recommended). Interesting other guests, and beautiful grounds. Ended with a fine Sunday brunch at nearby Robert Morris Inn (also recommended). The Groupon sure helped make this affordable - and we'll definitely be back! read more
