So cute! A darling little beach with good nature trails just an hour from DC. Make sure that you reserve your day pass in advance as you can't get in without one on busy weekends. It's free right now but the gate attendant said eventually it will be $6. They are currently building bathrooms and a rinse-off station, but they have porta potties for now. Nicely paved roads to get there, a Safeway en route (coming from DC), and an easy walk to the beach from the parking lot. Entering the park via the gatehouse, the beach is to the right. Follow the trail and signs past the small playground on the right and past the pond on the left. I recommend going to the right once you get to the beach itself as it was less crowded the day I was there. A couple rules important to know before you go. You can drive up closer to the beach to unload, but no parking there unless you have a handicapped sticker/plate. Also, no dogs on the beach unless it's a service dog. There is a ranger walking around so don't try it as you'll be disappointed (as I saw two families have to leave). And no climbing on the break wall rocks. Seems fun, so why not? The ranger said that very aggressive (but non-poisonous) water snakes live there, eek! Also, since I went in August, beware of the jellyfish--they were everywhere. But I also saw huge schools of tiny fish and lots of birds (seagulls, pelican, etc). The beach does not have any natural shade. I had read on the website no umbrellas or tents but I saw tons of families with them and they didn't get in trouble. Bring your snacks and drinks and beach comforts as there are no concessions, just the beach! And the water itself was clear to start but then got more cloudy and had seaweed as the day went on. It's nice and shallow, so I think we will come back when the jellyfish aren't so numerous. read more

45-minutes from Washington, D.C. Beverly Triton Nature Park is one of the closest beaches to the city. On top of that, it's a protected park with trails and views. Here's why you should visit: 1) Parking: There's a small lot that fills up fast during the summer. My daughter and I went on an August Friday morning and had to wait a few minutes for someone to leave. There is a lot across the street, but it also fills up too. Parking is free. 2) Trails: There are several short hikes perfect for toddlers. My four-year-old daughter was able to hike the Triton Trail on her own without a stroller or asking to be carried. 3) Beach: The fastest way to the beach is down the paved trail by the main parking lot. It takes 1-2 minutes to walk to the long, but narrow public beach. Bring sunscreen and bug spray. There's no shade at all. 4) Outhouses: There are two outhouses at the main parking lot AND another one at the beach entrance. Unless you want to change in a dirty outhouse, put on your swimsuit before you arrive. read more

Just noticed a review had not been done in 4 years! Well here is a new one It's not a very big park but they do have a decent foot trail called the pond trail. It's 1.82 miles indicated by orange markers that guide the way. It's not good for bikes and can get muddy on a wet day. Dogs are allowed but must be leashed. There are 3 other trails at the park and each one of them is under a half of mile in length. Pond trail is a good one especially for the location. read more

Wonderful makeover! Playground, One mile of shoreline, five miles of hiking trails, four ponds and a cartop launch for canoeing, restrooms coming soon. Parking is available but will fill up fast. Best bet is to walk or ride your bike to this marvelous nature area. read more

Our first time visiting this park. Fairly well marked trails along the bay and through the woods. Nothing strenuous but it was very muddy with wooden planking is some areas. There were portapots available at the entrance. Very nice places to stop and picnic and beautiful pics. Remember to leash your dogs! They do provide poop bags which is great. read more

Great park, right on the water. This is a great place to walk and run, get back to some nature. You can visit the water and just watch the birds flying around. They are working on it still, and the improvements are huge. read more

The Chesapeake Bay is a sadly underutilized resource. This somewhat hidden park south of Annapolis is one of the few areas that's free and open to the public on the Western Shore; most of the area is private and even the parks often have restrictions that make them inaccessible to the casual visitor. This isn't a huge stretch of land and doesn't possess any great aesthetic qualities or amenities, but it's there, and that's worth something. A few unmarked trails lead through the woods, passing a couple of ponds along the way. The beach itself prohibits swimming, but the water is sufficiently shallow and warm that you can wade an appreciable distance into the water. It's less than a mile long, but it's verdant and it's quiet, allowing one to sit in the shade and listen to the light waves and other ambient sounds. You can bring pets, too. I wouldn't recommend going any great distance for this park; I went because I was already a good part of the way there. But if you need some fresh air and a dose of peace and quiet, be it known that at least one stretch of that exists in this region. read more

What an amazing little beach! Nice quiet ride once you get off the highway. Triton Beach is a wonderful little escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. I love that it is "at no cost" to visitors (aka free). The waters are cool and the sand beneath your feet (in the water) feels like memory foam. There are also some walking trails but I can't escape the water once I'm there! :-) read more

A true quarantine gem! I almost don't want to write a review and get this place on other people's radar! This nature park has walking trails, a lake and A BEACH! The beach is narrow but very long, which makes social distancing easy. There are also walk downs from the path so you don't have to trek through the sand with all your beach gear and small humans. We also enjoyed the clearly marked and easy to follow trails through the park. This is not a stroller friendly situation. You're going to want to strap that kid to you or bring sneakers for the kiddos. Note: Do a quick internet search before coming to make sure the beach isn't overridden with jellyfish, as was the case when we visited in July. read more

What a quaint little hide-away! We finally found a dog friendly beach to enjoy with our hounds. This was Willow's first beach adventure and once she realized the (tiny) waves weren't going to hurt her, she plopped herself right down. Even tried to lay on her side until she realized the water would cover her head. The area was clean and the port-a-potties were well cared for. There is also a good deal of parking but no real places to sit in the beach unless you come prepared. There were a few benches scattered about. The beach is very narrow and not too long but a quiet, hidden gem to be enjoyed! read more

I think it is beautiful and special. What I don't think is that it got it full potential out there. Many neglected areas, (I was reading here many saying they got tick bites here!! I didn't but still now I feel little itchy lol). I think that if some investment will be put into this park, it can be so much better. A lot better. It was fun day. Had some wildlife watch. It's not far from DC and it free. No need to fight traffic and pay a toll to go over the Bay Bridge to the Eastern Shore. It's dog friendly and you can allow your dog off leash if it's well behaved. Just watch out when the jelly fish come out in late July and August. read more

Long walk to the beach. Nice that you can take your dog. Extremely limited parking. There seem to be a lot of trails, if your dog is a hiker. Unfortunately, just walking to and from the car was too much for our 150lb Newfoundland. She loves the water, but on hot days, it is just too far for her to walk. read more

Drove here after being turned away from sandy point for overcrowding and the sign says, "no swimming". All we want is to go swimming at a beach and it's mind boggling that it is so difficult to find a public beach to swim at. Be vary aware of ticks. Because of the over population of deer in the area, this area is loaded with them !

This is a beautiful, pristine beach directly on the Western Shore of the Chesapeake. It was closed to the public for many years -- outrageously, considering it is publicly owned -- but recently opened thanks to the work of the Anne Arundel Public Water Access Committee. The facilities are primitive -- just port potties and no showers -- but there is plenty of parking. Go visit and enjoy the Chesapeake! read more
