Jones Farm Market LLC in Saranac is a hometown butcher that sells by the half and whole, and retail…read morecuts. The store has a good selection of pre-packaged beef and pork, frozen. Some of it is pre-cooked (pulled pork, for example), but most of it is ready for a home cook. They also carry some baked goods, jams, hot sauces, deli meat and cheese, and sweets. This butcher is quite out of the way for my family, but it is a favorite for its quality and value. When we were there during the week of Christmas, they were busy with lots of folks stocking up refrigerators and freezers and people buying gift certificates and gifts. A big favorite of our family is their beef jerky. They carry several types, sweeter barbecue, spicy, and it is fast mover based on the customers we saw. Most of it is less chewy than other butchers in the area, so it's worth trying before you buy to make sure you like it. It was also nice to get sliced cheese (Lipari) to have ready for the holiday tables and leftover sandwiches. If you are looking for something specific or want a large order, call ahead. They will pull the order for you and be ready with it when you arrive. This makes it easier on everyone! Also, they will vacuum seal almost anything so that it lasts longer in a cooler or freezer. Some places won't do this, so it is great service. It can get crowded, but the crowd and the service are friendly. When it's crowded, it may move slowly, but it will be worth it, especially to support a small, local business that provides an important food-based business for the community.

My review is about something that happened several years ago . I used to do Hig Roast for hire . I…read morefriend wanted to have me do one for his family reunion . He insisted on going through them for the pig . The day before the event i went and picked it up . They had skinned it left the kidneys in it . As im taking the kidneys out i spread open the ribs and inside on each side were 2 football size spots of green nasty rotting flesh . I quickly called the shop on my home phone and my friend on my cell . Some one answers the shop phone . I explained the problem. And asked what their solution to this was i was informed they were closed and therefor could do nothing that night . I asked the person on the phone if they would take my number and have the owner call me back . He said he wouldnt do that . I asked why . His response was to inform me that he was the owner and hung up on me . I had to take the rotting pig carcass back to them they did replace it the next day . But as anyone that has ever done or attended a pig roast it takes a long time to cook a whole pig . So the event was ruined and they had a freezer full of roasted pork to deal with . I will never buy anything from them again .

I LOVE Jerky but it has to be moist & tender - not the hard stuff. Anyway, I happened to pull into…read moretheir lot just to turn around and saw that they had jerky. Decided to park & go in to just see what they had. They were in a major remodeling process and once I walked in, I stopped in my tracks. OMG!! How neat!! The place carries anything & everything a person could or would need to make their own jerky, sausage, etc. You want seasoning? It's here!! You want speciality pots. pans, knives? It's here!! Now, they even carry fresh meats that are fantastic & they are poly packed. Vacuum sealed air tight! NEAT!!! And yes, they carry all kinds of jerky such as elk, venison, buffalo, chicken, turkey and naturally beef. Want it hard or soft? Got it! Want it spicy or just plain? They got it!! They also carry fish and different sea foods such as frog legs (yummy). You may have to take a leisurely drive here but it is well worth the trip. You won't be disappointed. One more thing. When you walk in - look up & around to see all the displays of animals mounted on their walls. They even have a few stuffed armadillos around.

They also process deer. After being married to a hunter for over 10 years we have tried our share…read moreof processors. This place is beyond, beyond, BEYOND EXCELLENT. They vacuumed packed the meat. Expertly trimmed the steaks and left no connective tissue that I saw. There was no hair on the meat. It was a delight to be able to use the meat right out of the package! Many places, when it gets busy just get so sloppy on the meat you get back. I had become so disgusted with the amount of work I had to do to re-trim the same meat that we already had paid to have done, that for a few years I made my hubby do his own processing. He gave this place a try and I was very doubtful. When he came home he was so excited to have a proper job done. Because of the clear vacuumed sealed packages of meat I could see the difference. I cannot recommend this place highly enough for deer processing.

I made it very easy for them in already trimmed up my deer and brought in just the meet. They didn't have to do anything to it other than process it. I was charge for 28 pounds of venison and only received 23. I tried to Counyt at the counter and the girl told me to take it outside because she had other people to wait on. I should have been able to check my order right there at the counter. I was not pleased that I had to go back to the shop after. It also took 2 1/2 weeks to do my order. When I was told three days to do the jerky in the venison sticks. Then they tried to tell me that my order had been done for over a week but the stickers on it said one day ago. They are very rude and they tried to gyp me out of my venison. When I had called about being ripped off on the quantity of meat they kept trying to come up with excuses on why my meat was not what I weighed in at. All of my meat that I brought in was all trimmed up with no fat and it was already scanned. There was no excuse other then they did not give me my full order. I told them I wanted a refund for not getting all of my order. I went in to get my refund because the manager said it would be waiting for me behind The counter. When I went in to get my refund there was only five dollars. Seriously? My order was $98 and all I was getting back was five dollars for them ripping me off on the quantity of meat and me having to drive in twice and the long wait for it? Never again will I go to this place and I will make sure no family or friends go there either.
