I'm from out of town and recently broke a crown. The whole top of the tooth fell off. I am hundreds of miles from my regular dentist. We called them up and explained our dilemma. We only planned to be here a week so we called ahead from Seattle to get an appointment. They coordinated with my dentist in California. They explained a treatment plan and gave me an estimate at my first visit. Not only did they work me into their schedule but they scheduled the work for the same afternoon. I was so impressed with the entire staff, very courteous, very friendly and yet very professional. While it wasn't cheap my tooth was a mess-- I only had a half a tooth and a gaping hole. They numbed me up real good so there was a minimum discomfort. All in all, a very positive experience. I absolutely recommend them. read more

I wanted to love them, their level of care, facilities, and professionalism was top notch. I chose them for my wife and I when we moved into Bellingham. I was pretty wowed after my first visit. My wife and I had similar diagnoses and the price she was paying was much higher than similar treatments at our old dentist in Oakland. I decided to look for another dentist for my treatment before my appointments for my dental work. The second opinion that I received had me getting much less treatment for a more affordable price. I had my previous dentist appointment in Seattle and cleaning 6 months prior and the periodontal exam where they go around with a probe going "2,3,2;3,2,4; 3,3,2, etc". When I went to BDG he was going "6,7,8:7,8,7;7,7,7;, etc" and then said I needed scaling and cost $1600 and needed to come back every 3 months for cleaning. He also said I needed 3 crowns! I went to another dentist in Bellingham and he said no I was doing a good job of maintenance as I brush twice a day and floss daily, and that I just needed my 6 month cleaning and then a twice a year visit. He also said I did NOT need any crowns. BDG recommends procedures just to increase their profits. AVOID THEM! read more

The office practices a bait and switch marketing scheme to get you through the door, and upselling through omission of information. This is the update to my original review, which they responded to on Google saying they listened to my phone call and the receptionist said the new patient deal includes an exam and xrays, therefore they are in the right. This is actually deceptive advertising, willfully omitting information to get you in the door and upsell you. I specifically called and said I want a cleaning. When I say "I want a cleaning" and your employee says "here is this rate and it includes x, y, and z" it is assumed that it would include the service that I specifically requested. If not your employees should be saying, "this includes this, but it doesn't include that." To intentionally exclude that information when a specific service need is communicated, and make non-verbal implications is an unethical and shady business practice. Or, to use legal terms, a bait and switch marketing scheme thriving on deceptive omission. Original review: The actual dental experience was fine. However, I called and specifically said that I wanted to come in for a cleaning. The front desk quoted me the new patient deal, and left it at that. Since I wasn't told otherwise, I thought that included a cleaning - since that is specifically what I said I wanted. After the team did the xrays, they asked if I wanted a cleaning - yes, that's why I came. Lo and behold, they told me that it would cost extra. They came back with an estimate, and I ended up leaving paying almost 4x what I expected to pay this morning. I think that a lot of us are tired of healthcare feeling like a scam. I have plenty of experiences at being told something will cost X, and then the bill reflects something different. For the front desk to exclude that information and make it seem like what I wanted was included in this special price made it feel like they are just trying to get people in the door, and surprise them with extra billing after you've already set the time aside for your day, manipulating into saying yes to it. Transparent financial communication is important, and I'm afraid this has cost me as a future customer. I will be looking for offices that communicate the pricing upfront. read more

We have had a series of bad experiences with this dental group, which have finally led us to seek a different practice. The patient care has been about average - I have been a patient here for several years and I don't think I've ever had the same dentist examine my teeth twice. I have to assume this is due to a high turnover, which is always alarming in the healthcare setting. During a recent exam, a new-to-me dentist was calling out gum depth measurements and then changed them when he saw that they conflicted with the measurements taken at a prior exam conducted by a different dentist at the group. Not a good feeling. I also had a filling fall out within the first month of the procedure - not a big deal, but the group took no ownership in the incident and billed my insurance company the full price of a filling for the repair. This profit-driven mentality is what has concerned my family the most and has caused us to leave the practice. The group has a knack for pressuring its patients into services and fire-sale deals that are about to expire. I was once pressured to take advantage of an oral cancer screening that was on sale for the month - which I think most other dentists just do as part of the routine cleaning. One of the dentists has authored a book and has it displayed in all of the exam rooms for sale. There's also a weird survey they have you take before your appointment, and if you check yes to any of the questions a flow chart directs you to some monthly or bi-annual treatment recommendation beyond a cleaning that costs more money. The most recent incident - which has caused us to leave the practice - is the addition of a 3% credit card service fee. This is unheard of in the healthcare world. This dental group just keeps pushing and pushing to find new ways to squeeze money out of its clients. It is a terrible feeling to question whether a dentist is making his decisions based on what is best for the patient or what is best for the bottom line while his hands are in your mouth. read more

I had a great experience at Bellingham Dental Group. I needed x-rays and an exam, as I am already seeing a Periodontist, and the Dental Assistant, Tehya, was kind and super efficient. Dr Seraj did my exam, and explained that there were some things that needed taken care of, but did not try to push me into any kind of extensive treatment plan. I am very concerned about this dental practice. Over ten years ago I saw Dr. Haley when he was starting up and back then he was good, fair, and amenable. Not now. I had five fillings done in one appointment a short time ago and he only did the numbing and drilling. The two techs who did the rest kept spraying my face with water and were rough with pulling out the apparatus in my mouth. Eighteen hours later, my upper lip was still swollen and numb. Behind my lip it was quite infected/abscessed. I finally got on an antibiotic and went back in a few days later. Doctor seemed nonplussed, and I now have a scar/bump in my lip. I had also noted a split in this area. He is still charging me my copay and said I have to pay it! This place scares me. I'm cancelling my cleaning in two months and am actually frightened to go there ever again. Here's another kicker. Last year I left there with an over $17,000 dental plan, and feel I've been pressured to get a crown whenever I've been in. Update: My concerns were sent to the office manager who apologized and said they would clear my remaining balance because of what happened to me. read more

Looking for a new dentist and chose this place, apparently I had ~5 cavities I didn't know about and one root canal that was going to cost me $2500 after insurance. I got a really weird feeling from this place, like a scummy car salesman, so I went elsewhere for a second opinion and lo and behold I have 1 that just needs a filling. My new dentist confirmed I am far from the first patient with this same experience. read more

The dental hygienist who I received care from was subtly judgmental of my teeth over the course of several appointments. She also told me I needed root scaling and planing, as well as cleanings every four months due to gum disease, and possibly even a gum graft surgery. I have been to two other dentists since then, and they told me my teeth and gums are fine - no need for any of those measures. I read other reviews that suggest this practice pushes unnecessary procedures on clients. I'd recommend to find another dentist, based on my experience. read more

My fiancée and I moved to Bellingham in late 2019 and have both had dental work done here post-COVID. In short, this is NOT GREAT service and you should avoid. It's strange because everyone we encountered is pleasant enough. It's just VERY expensive and, as others have noted, they like to up-charge you for everything. I had a full set of recent x-rays done right before moving, but they "required" their own. My brother is a dentist and tells me that is absolutely unnecessary, akin to being required to have an eye exam for each eyeglass retailer you visit. Reputable dental offices share x-rays all the time and nowadays they are digital, so easy to share. One strike. Next, it does not appear that anyone here values your time. As an example, my fiancée had to take 4 days off work to take care of two fillings, one of which ending up requiring a root canal. The first appointment was a consultation but they'd already told her in the previous cleaning that she needed two fillings! She only works four days a week, but this office is closed Friday thru Sunday and offers no late day appointments. Their schedule is obviously more important than yours. They would also only do one filling at each appointment, despite knowing about both cavities. Serious up-charge and loss of work for her, which due to her job is unpaid. Strike two. My experience has also been sub-par. The last time I visited them for a cracked tooth, I left with over a 10K treatment plan and had to do the work elsewhere because I could not get an appointment for a month. Seriously less money. A cracked tooth hurts, btw, in case you were wondering... Overall, the vibe here is a group of privileged bro-dentists shaming their customers about the quality of their teeth (despite people rightly avoiding dentist offices during COVID) and making it abundantly clear that they know how to play you and couldn't care less if you go somewhere else. I put up with it for a while, but it's strike three. Avoid. read more

I tried to schedule an appointment to get a filling, but I was told that it wouldn't be possible because "You don't go into a doctors office and say chop off my leg because it hurts." That's literally what the lady up front told me. I will never go here again. I already had X-rays taken but they refused to listen to me saying a certain tooth has pain and I wanted that to be taken care of before anything else. They wanted to give me a new retainer (which I don't need, just runs up the price) and fix other cavities before working on the tooth I requested. read more

I don't have dental insurance, so I'm buying their in house dental plan, which is working really well for me. I like Dr. Fu, she is very professional and engaging. They told me I needed to commit to an expensive cleaning before I could complete the exam. This was after X-rays. They told me they couldn't do a regular cleaning. They also took an additional 360 Degree X-ray which I know cost extra. I asked before getting it And was told that my insurance probably covered it and if it didn't they would just write it off. I'm looking forward to seeing what my out-of-pocket is going to be after insurance. If you do a little digging you'll see a lot of one star reviews where people are complaining about unnecessary treatments, and up selling, which happened in my case. Start to finish a really good experience. The staff was very professional and friendly. The office is bright and clean. My hygienist (AJ) was amazing and even put Discovery Channel on the ceiling for me to watch during my cleaning. Dr. Haley was great, made some recommendations on a new issue and made sure I understood everything. I don't have dental insurance and the X-rays, exam and cleaning ran about $250. Unprofessional and unknowledgeable. They will not take you if you have any complications, so if you have cavities or other issues that require some expertise they refer you out to someone else--forget about how many weeks it took to get in there to begin with. I am new to Bellingham, went looking for a dentist and made appointments for my husband and me at BDG. Facilities are clean and bright, staff is friendly. I was given Dr Vu. I had a full mouth X-ray and a couple of extra X-rays because the big one wasn't good enough. Dr Vu found I had a small cavity and, because my teeth and gums are not in great shape, she gave me a referral to someone "who could help with that." She referred me to someone who could NOT help me with that and charged me $350 for a full mouth assessment. HE gave me a referral to a periodontist. I have not heard from the periodontist. It has been 9 months since I've had my teeth cleaned. I called BDG back to see if I could just get my teeth cleaned before I leave on an extended trip in less than 3 weeks. I got an appointment, but they called yesterday and cancelled it because they won't clean my teeth. They are not prepared to take care of my dental needs and don't want to. Basically, I've spent over $1,000 between BDG and the referral and all I have to show for it is a toothbrush and a filled cavity. I want my money back. read more

My spouse and I went into this dental office today and we had a wonderful experience. The assistants that did both of our cleanings were gentle and full of smiles. My spouse has dental anxiety and he felt none of it after talking to the doctor, she is a warm and kind individual. In previous years I had held off on going to a dentist because the last one I had visited, told me there was way more work than I could afford, so I waited. After speaking to the dentist she informed me there was way less work than the previous dentist had stated, so that was another plus. The office staff are all very down to earth and it was quite refreshing to be able to laugh and relax before going into a scenario that can sometimes not be so pleasant. But to our surprise, it was the best experience we both have ever had! We felt no pressure at all to whiten our teeth or buy products, and the treatment plan was easy to follow and they listened to our needs and made it work around that, we will definitely be going back to this office for all our future work. read more

I really hate going to the dentist. I was especially nervous this time around as it had been ~3+ years since my last dental exam. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful when I provided the incorrect insurance card. I didn't wait for long before being greeted by a hygienist named Nicole. She was very friendly and talkative in a comfortable way. She did my X-rays and cleaning. The dentist was also quite friendly and answered any questions that I had. I was terrified that they'd try and say a had multiple cavities. The dentist identified some areas of concern but was overall complimentary. She made a few recommendations for increased care for an old crown that isn't quite flush. She could have recommended more for the sake of it, but only recommended that I have one filling redone. During my cleaning, I was offered headphones and choice of Netflix shows to watch on the ceiling. That's pretty cool. They also provide protective eyewear. There's a small parking lot available in an alley area and some street parking available. The main entrance is just off of the private parking lot. Overall, nice place. I'll likely continue to come to this dental office in the future. read more

Dr. Haley is the friendliest dentist in town. I would know because I saw a handful before him! I had been to a few other dentists in Bellingham and felt too uncomfortable to get work done. Dr. Haley and his staff made me feel very comfortable and were so kind and understanding of my anxiety. Having more than just a filling done can be nerve wracking and I can honestly say they made this the easiest appointment I've ever had. I liked them so much that I decided to have my kids come too. I'll be happy to revise this rating and review if I have a new and improved experience in the future with this dental group, but for now this is all I have to go on: I have lived in Bellingham for 6 years, but continue to use my dentist back home because they provide free nitrous. I always thought that was normal until I moved here, but every dentist's office I have spoken to in Bellingham charges for it, so I have learned to ask upfront when calling for an appointment. I have severe anxiety, and hyper-sensitive gums, so nitrous is a must. Because I never know how long the appointment will last, or how my anxiety/pain tolerance will be that day, I hate the thought of basically going in with an open tab, not knowing what my bill will be when I leave. Free nitrous takes away that concern, so I know from start to finish what I will be paying. I received an enticing new patient flier in the mail. It sounded promising, and the great reviews here added to my confidence in their service. Then I called. In the course of my conversation with the woman who answered the phone, I asked if they provide free nitrous, or if there was a charge for it. She responded that they don't offer nitrous for cleanings, but only for fillings and other bigger procedures. I had never heard of this before, and considering nitrous makes it easier for even the person DOING the cleaning, I was shocked. Incredulous, I asked "Really?! Nitrous for cleaning isn't even an option?" Suspiciously and kind of rudely, she replied "No, it's not an option." Stunned, I just said "Wow, okay then, thank you." Briskly, she replied "Thanks" and we hung up. I mulled this over for the rest of the day, and thought I had better do my due diligence before throwing away the flier. I emailed the dentist's office, and politely asked if the information I received on the phone was accurate. I assume the same woman who answered the phone is the one who handles the emails because I never got a reply, ever. I sent the email on January 8th. Today is February 18. I am writing this review in the hopes that the actual dentist will read it here, since they may not have access to it in their email. If I receive a response, I will consider changing this review, but for now I simply can't rate them higher. read more

This past week I visited Dr. Fu. Short story: I was told in a very convincing and cheery manner that I had 13 cavities. I visited another dentist and none of those cavities exist. What Dr. Fu knew: - I was new to Bellingham - I had not had a dentist appointment in about a year - I was concerned/curious about a black spot on a single tooth - I was experiencing NO pain or discomfort Her diagnosis after X-rays, pictures (taken before they brushed my teeth), and lightly tapping on my teeth: - "you have quite a few cavities..." (when I asked how many, she would not answer, but said that would be reviewed with me later when looking at my treatment plan.... 13 to be exact.) - 1 rooth canal - 2 crowns - approximately $7,000 treatment plan (over the span of a few years because "we will treat what your insurance can help you with this year and leave the rest for later.") What the hygenist added: - "On the bright side there's no plauqe on your teeth or around your retainer." - "Your gums look really health." This diagnosis seemed suspicious so I sought a second opinion (sharing the exact X-rays that Dr. Fu "explained" to me). In the end I have: - ZERO cavities - a stain on my tooth that can be treated at home - $0 treatment plan When I called the office to ask if they could share the X-Rays with my out of state dentist they declined, but agreed to share them with me directly. After looking at BDG's one star reviews on Google I understand that this experience was not an isolated event. read more

Dr. Haley manufactures crowns on-site, which enables him to both prep your tooth and place the crown in a single visit. Over the years I have had a number of crowns and the process has always taken two trips to the dentist. The first visit involves prepping the damaged tooth and having a temporary crown put in place, while a final crown is created offsite. In a second visit, one or two weeks later, the finished crown is inserted. Dr. Haley's practice is up-to-date with the latest advances in dentistry. In addition, he and his staff are very friendly and always explain in layman's terms everything they are doing. read more

Immediately upon walking in, I was greeted by two wonderful ladies at the front desk. I am not a fan of the dentist at all but all of the staff were so wonderful. Everyone was super nice! I felt super comfortable and everything was explained really well to me. I knew I had problems with my teeth and in the past have had rude dentists that made me feel shameful about the issues. Dr. Haley was extremely nice and helped me understand what was going on with my teeth and make a game plan that felt doable and affordable. If you've ever had bad experiences in the past with dentists and feel wary about future appointments, definitely go here! It's a very stress free experience. I haven't been to a dentist office for about 6 years now. I had to come in because my wisdom teeth were giving me trouble and they needed to be removed. I came in on my lunch hour, and because it took longer than expected, Bellingham Dental Group provided X-Rays, dental exam, and teeth cleaning for free. The staff was extremely nice and provided great service. They genuinely cared about my health. I also don't have dental insurance and they were willing to work with me on pricing. They even gave me a free Sonicare electric toothbrush on my way out. I highly recommend them. read more

Moved to Bellingham a couple years ago and was looking for a family dentist in the area. I called a couple places under my insurance and they all said that they weren't taking any new patients. I was about to quit the search until I got referred to Dr. Haley from a coworker. I called in, said I was a new patient and hoping to get in for a simple cleaning. The lady on the phone worked with my schedule and lucky for me they just got a cancellation and I was able to come in the next day. When I got there, the staff was really friendly and took care of all my questions. Right when I sat in the chair, Dr. Haley was incredibly knowledgeable and explained everything that he was seeing in the xrays. At other places, they just point at something and you take your word for it. I liked how Dr. Haley walked me through each picture and explained what I was looking at without the technical doctor jargon. At my previous dentists, I always felt like I was going into a "used car" sales pitch and find ways they can have me do more operations with them. With Dr. Haley, he never pressured me in doing more than I need and provided me options on my next steps, as well as guiding me on what I should prioritize. On top of all that, he is very personable and experienced. I highly recommend Bellingham Dental Group. They have all up to date equipment, great customer service, and experienced service. read more

From the moment you walk in the door and are greeted by one of the overly friendly ladies to the end where Dr. Haley has thoroughly explained the plan that will get you to optimal health and hygiene is phenomenal. Holy shit this is the ONLY place to go! I had my first visit with these guys on Friday AM. Amia greeted me, gave me a tour that felt like I was at a world class spa, and gave me an electric toothbrush as a welcome gift! Gabby took my X-rays then took me to the most comfortable dental chair on the planet. She was so fun to talk to even with me mouth wide open. Then Carly swung by to say hello! She's a hygienist there and one of my old coworkers! Dr King came in and checked me out and came up with a game plan for future care. She's super nice! On my way out I stopped by Arri and went over what had done that day and any payments I may need to make. Then I said goodbye to Amia and Amelia and was on my way! Everyone was so nice!! But my teeth! SO CLEAN! It's been a week and I feel like I still just left! I have Nicole to thank. She's why I switched. She's a close friend and hygienist at BDG. Ok..since my last visit, I had a crown replaced. I had originally wanted no metal in my crown, but Dr. Foo replaced my old crown with one that had a metal circle in the center. Since I had been very clear about not wanting metal in my mouth, they did replace it for free, and though I'm very disappointed I had to have 5 appointments for this crown, I had Dr. Olwalla this time...I hope I spelled that right..she was so kind, I left feeling she cared about me each time, she even sent the crown back once because it wasn't perfect..the reception staff have been very kind also, they know me by name and treat me very well. I was allowed to see my crown before it was put in my mouth this time, no metal in it! And it was a perfect fit, no need to sand or drill..its great. They have won my business back with Dr. Olwalla, she is my dentist now. Thank you Bellingham Dental for making things right. read more
