Do you love the smell of sweat in the morning? This place reeks of hard work…read more There is an entry room with shirts and boxing gloves for sale. No one was behind the counter when I entered. I waited for awhile in hopes of being greeted, especially since there was a large sign on the door that said all visitors must sign in. When it was apparent no one knew or cared that I was there, I wandered into the gym. The big room was covered with a spongy mat and surrounded by mirrors. A female instructor was leading two men through a martial arts lesson. Around the corner was another large room divided into two workout areas by a short wall. One side had several free standing punching bags. The other side had kettle balls and several blobs that looked like the torso of a corpse. This was the kickboxing area. A female instructor led three students, 2 women and 1 man through a combination of calisthenics and kickboxing (heavy on the calisthenics). The warm-up included running laps, high steps, bear walk, soldier kicks, lunges, etc. The workout alternated between short bouts of punching and kicking the bag and longer torturous sessions of pushups, situps, planks, burpees and plenty of other punishing exercises. The last few minutes were reserved for the cool down stretches. Fast, techno music played rather quietly in the background. The instructor and students didn't really workout to the beat. There wasn't any choreography. Throughout the workout, students modified exercises as necessary to prevent exacerbating injuries; or if they weren't strong enough to do an exercise, the instructor gave them suggested modifications. No one really seemed thrilled to be there. I came to watch, but quickly lost interest and motivation for signing up for such grueling pain. I thought that more time would be spent doing kickboxing combos in synch with the music, which would have been fun, but that was not the case at all. The facility has a special offer. For $19.99, you get free boxing gloves and three classes. After that, you pay approximately $130 a month and can take as many classes as you can tolerate. Some people don't feel like they are getting a good workout unless they are dripping with sweat, and unable to lift their arms and too weak to walk afterwards. If this applies to you, you might actually like this. I was TKO the moment I walked in the door.

This is one greedy business. Signed my children up pre pandemic and have been charged monthly as if…read moremy children are going. My children got to go to one class...ONE!! I asked for them to please not charge me cause well we're not going because the country is shut down....I think that's fair. I was told that I would not be charged during the shut down, but now that they are able to open they decided to retroactively charge me several months in one month for services we couldn't use (BECAUSE THE COUNTRY WAS SHUT DOWN...). I've emailed several times and called, without ever getting a call back. Finally got someone today a lady who was incredibly rude and had no compassion for a mother who is not comfortable sending my children to a gym where the risk is high for catching COVID. The gym cares more about filling there pockets than they care about the safety of children. After posting on Facebook both owners finally decided to talk to me but only to try argue with me on my post only. Still haven't received a call or email. Or even a polite fake apology for not getting back to me yet...but the owner called me a bully for not wanting to be taken advantage of. For not wanting money for children to be taken when they haven't been able to provide the service we originally signed up for. I've been more than transparent about my requests that have gone unanswered.

Found a Groupon for 10 classes to try this place out and here's my review:…read morePRO: totally works, its fun, if you have tried kickboxing you will love this place. if you have tried bootcamp its pretty much like bootcamp with kickboxing. You will SWEAT. Pretty intense workout, it is hard at first but you will get used to it. Great friendly staff. They will assist you if you need help with combos etc. CON: Booking, booking, booking. I mean I understand that there are limited punching bags and they want to accommodate people but its not a come as you go place. You MUST book in advance however, you can only book 1 class at a time. You cannot book several classes in advance. You can only CALL them to book as for some reason they dont take bookings via email. So if you're the type that like to schedule and plan in advance this may not be the most flexible for you. Otherwise if you dont mind it then you should totally try this place. Membership is pretty pricey $100+ a month if your new, I dont know if it goes lower if you're a longer member.

I hate gyms. I can't stare off into space and mindlessly run on a treadmill. I need to be engaged,…read morephysically and mentally. Discovering kickboxing was a game changer for me. I loved it from my very first class - I was SO far out of my comfort zone and way beyond my fitness level, and every inch of my body hurt; but I loved it, and was so excited when ILKB opened in my neighborhood. The space is great, plenty of room to move around and really get into your groove. There are classes 7 days a week, and a membership means you can go to as many as you want, without having to pre-book. I never know when I will get out of the office, so really appreciate the flexibility and timing of the classes. While the classes are all structured the same, each one varies, so you don't get bored or stuck in the same old boring routine. You will SWEAT. You may wonder, mid-way through the warm up, if you will even make it to the bag rounds, but you WILL make it and that feeling of accomplishment will bring you back time and time again. The staff and members are motivating and encouraging and there is a sense of community, which is a nice touch. Oh, and once a month, there is a DJ night, I mean, come one, does your old gym have a DJ? No? Then you're at the wrong gym.

There is a real feeling of community as we all work together to kick butt. :-) I love the intensity of the workout, the pacing of the class and this new location is a great space. From training here I am seeing positive changes in my strength, endurance and general fitness. My classmates are great, welcoming and fun to exercise with. This place has the right combo of hard work and fun. Three levels of classes are offered Monday through Thursday (beginner, intermediate and advanced) and on Fridays and Saturdays there are single multi level classes to practice skills. I like the frequency of that schedule, which allows me to go up to 6 times a week! :-) I would recommend westside kickboxing to anyone looking for a group of awesome people to train with, a chance to learn a new skill and an opportunity to push oneself to be physically fit.

At one point he physically hit me with frustration about it, which felt inappropriate and uncomfortable. At the end of class, he made a comment about Valentine's Day that included language stereotyping single women. I calmly suggested he consider different wording. His response was defensive and loud -- he raised his voice in front of other students, repeatedly told me not to "accuse" him, and pointed to a pride flag on the wall as evidence of his character. I stayed calm throughout and clarified I wasn't accusing him of anything. The interaction ended without resolution. I left feeling shaken. We crossed paths several times afterward and he never acknowledged what happened. I found the experience to be unprofessional and, frankly, distressing -- particularly because I had chosen this class as a safe, welcoming space.
