3.5 stars I had something pretty specific in mind for my visit when using my Yelp gift card I won from the Yelp NoVA elite event at Hooked. I wanted color, something fun and lighter for the summer. I was being seen by Caitie who is a young, fresh hair stylist who is sweet and very good at her art. Her hair was ombre from black to a scarlet red. Just like I told her, when you see your hair stylist's hair, you can assume how your hair was going to turn out meaning her hair looked really well done. That's a rule of thumb I learned from my own sister who has been doing cosmology for 14 years. We were going over prices and different things which I pretty much determined right out the park we were not going to be able to do anything beyond the gift card value which was $55. That was the cost of a hair cut from her. Since I'm a dedicated customer to my hairstylist in Arlington, I opted for hair color instead of a cut. I couldn't do the color I wanted to since it was going to be an upwards of $130-150!! That's a whole lot of money I don't have to spend on it. Instead within the price range, she put some toner in my hair and a couple of other things and blew dried my hair for free. Originally I was going to leave my hair wet since it would be an additional $35 for a blow dry. Though she did good work, I honestly can not tell much of a difference between before my visit and after my visit. The day I had it done I could, but I don't think typically it could fade after two or three washes. Bottom line is I don't think the price is right for me. This is for upscale people who can shell out $200-300 in one sitting for hair and maintenance. I am not one of those. I will stick to Ly's Cutting Edge since she does a great job without breaking my bank. read more

I'm just not sure I can go back to Bellini again. Samantha has been cutting my hair for a little over a year and has been doing an amazing job of it. Her highlights are fantastic, she listens to what you want, recommends something else if she thinks it won't work, and is really responsive. She's the whole reason I go to Bellini. My first bad experience with Bellini was with David, almost two years ago. Despite bringing in photos and talking about what I wanted before hand, he did what he wanted and I was left looking like a 12 year old boy, circa 1977. It took months to grow out. My most recent negative experience was a few days ago. As Samantha is out on mat. leave the receptionist recommended I see X.* Before I say anything else, I want to say I'm happy with my actual hair cut, it was the experience that was awful. Out of nowhere she became very angry about politics and voiced controversial opinions very loudly. Then she started to voice some opinions that I found not just offensive, but racist. She then went on to claim that a member of my family, by virtue of their job, was involved in a conspiracy with the Taliban and was responsible for 30 deaths in Afghanistan. This woman was ranting loudly, at one point over the hair dryer, and no one in the salon seemed to take notice. I felt like I couldn't disagree as she was cutting my hair and I wasn't willing to live with another bad hair cut. If I had started a conversation about politics then I would say that I had no one to blame but myself, but it came out of nowhere! She has every right to hold those opinions, but to voice them in the work place and to a paying customer risks offending them and losing business because of that, and unfortunately that's what's happend here. **3.5 Stars... for peel service only** Full disclosure, purchased a Living Social for an Obagi Blue Peel Radiance Treatment for $60 (a $125 Value). Kat S. is the one who turned me on to the Obagi line and I have been a fan ever since. Imagine my sheer joy when an Obagi peel came onto Living Social! I should have read the fine print because it was for the radiance peel, not the full TCA peel. Whoops. I called to make an appointment and was easily put on the books for the same week. The receptionist was pleasant and informative. I arrived a few minutes late to my appointment and was taken back to the esthetician room for my peel. That is when I learned that it would be the radiance peel versus the TCA peel. The esthetician explained in detail the difference from the two and we proceeded with my peel. I've gotten a few peels in the past and have always had my face washed along with my hair pulled back... that was not done here. Could have been for the coupon, not sure, but it didn't happen. We went right into the peel without verifying or being shown what was being put on my face. This is important, as I have been burned (LITERALLY) in the past from faulty products. That also being said, I have no way to verify the product put on my face was actually from Obagi. I got two layers of the peel and was in and out within about 30 minutes or less. The esthetician (whose name escapes me) we very knowledgeable about face products and services and thankfully did not try to push any products or additional services on me. After the peel, my face looked great for about a week. I would probably go back but I think the $125 price tag for the Obagi radiance peel is a bit steep, considering you can get a full blown TCA peel by a plastic surgeon for $200. This Vienna shop is cute and clean... I could see myself going back for another visit if I had access to a zipcar and they were running another special or if more was included in the peel process (i.e. a basic cleansing of the face) read more

I just had dermaplaning with Stella done. I found the salon/service via a Living Social deal and I'm so glad I booked it! I've never done dermaplaning before but I have done microdermabrasion and the results are similar (& excellent, I'm glowing!). Plus you get a little mini-facial tacked on to the end too. It was a great experience. The salon/spa overall is a nice facility too. I've got another appointment booked with Stella and Dr. Gerrish next month (also a Living Social deal) so I'll update this review then. UPDATE: I didn't like the fractal facial too much, it was slightly painful and honestly I didn't really notice any results. But I'm still happy with Stella and the dermaplaning and have gone back for that service several times. read more

I followed Cathy Gray here about ten years ago (she's been cutting my hair for about 15 years now) and I really enjoy the spa service -- Nils and Bnita do a mean shampoo and seated massage -- and Cathy is the greatest! I went to Bellini because I had a $100 gift card. I looked up prices online and saw they had $95 facial, so I thought perfect, it won't cost me any extra to get the facial. During the facial I was thinking to myself "this is ok, I certainly wouldn't pay $95 out of pocket to get this." When I went to check out they told me the total was $135. I'm sure I looked like a deer in headlights, when I asked why it was that much they told me it was because I got the 75 minute facial. When I called to book I was not told I was getting the 75 minute facial, I just assumed I was getting what was listed on the website: "Algomask Facial: $95/60 minutes." There isn't a 75 minute option listed on the website. Nothing was explained to me in relation to the algomask. I was told that she was going to put on some pumpkin, and also that she used a clarisonic (which is no big deal as I have one at home). So I have no clue what from the algomask was actually done. I've never had a facial where the aesthetician wore latex gloves, that was strange. Also she used her phone as a timer which was distracting to have the alarm go off twice. All in all it was just ok. I'm definitely ticked about spending money I didn't plan to, especially since this was a gift and there are 100 other things I would have rather used that extra money towards. read more

I've been seeing Judi and Jim (the owner) for years now for haircuts. I started at another shop and then followed Judi over when she moved around 2000. This place is fantastic. The location is good and the way they've utilized space works well. Be sure to check out the awesome mirrors each stylist uses upstairs. Grab a coffee or beverage from the small cafe upstairs and check out the celeb pics (Jim cut the Osborne family's hair when they were in town.) They also offer a ton of spa services, none of which I've utilized yet. read more

I had a living social coupon for Bellini which I purchased after much thought and reviewing their website extensively. I had been to a couple other salons in the north VA. area now and only half satisfied. I did have to go back twice and needed a redo because the way it came out was not great- looked orange in color and you could still the roots. Well this time I had Bill and he was fantastic!!! I found him to be spot one with the look from the other stylist and found him to be very warm, professional, felt like a long time friend and he took his time and we even talked about color wheels, and what color my pigmentation is and what colors would suite me. **I am SO happy that I did go back to get it corrected- was not charged and met Bill!!! I go to have David cut my hair. It's actually not that easy to cut the hair of a 50 year old guy, who is fussy, and hair is definitely seen it's better days in places. BUT David is so good at his job, he manages to make me look good every time. Imagine what he can do for you people that have a decent head of hair. Go there, book David! I had the Brazilian Blowout groupon, which brought me to the salon. 1) hair washed by Nile Pros: very pleasent, thorough job Cons: none 2) Brazilian Blowout treatment by Judi Pros: - good pre consultation about what results I wanted to achieve (I have thick, combination texture curls, so permanent relaxer is too harsh on my finer hairs, but just blow drying my hair straight doesn't work for me either) - result = lets go for as straight as possible -good conversation, but let me do some light reading -was careful not to burn my ears with the flat iron (!) -answered my questions on how to adapt my hair care routine to fit the new treatment -trimmed my ends when I asked -discount through the groupon off of the hair products needed to maintain the style -salon let me go hit up the ATM next door because I didn't have time beforehand to grab cash for tip Cons: -would have felt more comfortable if she had consulted my hair pre-wash, but hey, it all worked out -felt like I was being sold extra products, I bought 3 but clearly was not interested in the 4th -the trim was good... I came to Bellini to receive a facial from Pilar. It had been 10 years since I have received a facial and from her! Loyal client??? Maybe, but at that frequency I certainly won't be paying your bills. As I am now in my 40's and have been an outdoor lover for all my life, my skin is nudging me to take better care of it and nourish its cells. i called her to see if and where she was still practicing and to my benefit she is! Pilar never made me feel like I'd have to spend a fortune to tend to my skin, or sorry that i hadn't paid more attention to my skin care needs. She was gentle, incredibly knowledgeable and suggested items that may help me in my day to day without pushing me. This approach provided me the space to feel more empowered and good about whatever it is that I do purchase for the in between time of seeing her again. In the weeks following I was almost expecting that my skin would take on its "normal" aging and weathered look fairly soon. Oh my goodness, what ever products she used really have made me feel younger and healthier/more hydrated as i look in the mirror! Although I won't turn into that very regular client, I do commit to going at least once a year as I am convinced of the deep cleansing and hydrating benefits. Finally, a haircut to be excited about! I made an appointment with David at the recommendation of a co-worker. I was able to see him the next day for a haircut and color. I didn't really have anything specific in mind, but he asked specific questions like what my routine was like in the morning, what products I use, how I like to style it, etc. He gave me a GREAT cut and a really beautiful hair color. I would definitely recommend David if you're looking for something different but need a little guidance as to what looks best on you. He really has a great eye. The shampoo by Nile was awesome as well. She is super friendly, does a thorough job, and took her time. Overall the appointment was about 2 hour, so plan for that if you're fitting a salon day into your schedule. I bought 2 products and the total came to $160 for everything. I really thought that was a fair price. I will definitely be back and I will be recommending David to my friends. I'd really give this place 5 stars but probably take 1/2 star off because David was about 15 minutes late to the appointment, but they do have a very nice coffee/tea/water bar. read more

Caitie is the best around! SO SO pleased with the cut & balayage color she did on my 'plain jane' hair. I needed to look more my age and she helped me spice it up *just a bit* without being too harsh of a change. Her attention to detail is excellent, and I loved that she literally listened to me tell my life story of hair woes before even picking up the scissors. She could see that I was scared/stressed because of all the bad haircuts I've experienced, so she really did a great job to make me feel comfortable & repeat what I was asking for so that I knew she really understood! I have been to lots of different salons and seen lots of different stylists and the common theme seemed to be the first couple of times they were great. They listened to what I wanted and pretty much got it but then on the 3rd time it's like they no longer cared what I wanted and just needed to test their newest techniques on me or assumed they knew better than I did what look I was going for. And then, thanks to a good friend (who is super stylish), I found David. What I love the most about David is that he accepts my obsession with being blonde and knows that I am a scaredy cat when it comes to trying anything new. BUT, he pushes me just far enough outside my comfort zone that I end up with exactly what I want, even if I was too afraid to try it. (He always goes over it with me first so I have the chance to say no way.) He is super easy to talk to and I never feel like I can't ask him to cut a little more or style my hair a different way. I adore him and whatever magical wizarding powers he possesses that make my hair look so darn good. He cuts my husband's hair as well as my 6 year old daughter's hair. My MIL drives 2 hours to see him! :) The staff is wonderful too. Nile at the washing station is incredible and remembers every little detail about you. I would classify the salon as "high end", with pretty high end prices, but not pretentious like most high end salons and the price is totally worth it! read more

He convinced me to try bangs, wouldn't allow me to chop it into a bob "you'll just cry about it as you drive away" and has done MANY a color correction when I decided to cheat on him. Bellini is a wonderful salon and spa. I have been a customer for around 10 years and have always been very pleased with the quality of service. Kathy Van Hise has been cutting and coloring my hair for all of those 10 years. My hair is very thick and she knows exactly how to handle it! She does an excellent job with color. I always have people asking me where I get my hair done. I also see Rose for pedicures and she is wonderful as well. I've had my nails done by other people, but Rose's pedicures last forever!! I really enjoyed my experience here. It was a bit of a drive since I live in Silver Spring (don't try getting back to Maryland/DC anytime between 4-6....trust me), but David was awesome. He took the time to talk to me about my hair, as well as the drama going on in my life- what else could you want from a hair stylist? He listened to what I wanted and really gave life to my long, thick hair. I wanted subtle highlights that were still noticable and he did them very well- they made my face sparkle, but I won't need to touch them up all summer because they are so well-placed and subtle. Bellini's in Vienna is a great find. My husband bought me a Gift Certificate for my birthday and I have been going to Bellini's ever since, over two years now. A very relaxing environment, full service salon. They also offer spa services. My hairdresser Christine is one of the best stylists in our area. The entire staff is outstanding and after your shampoo you even receive a neck massage!! Over time, I can't say I loved the treatment. I think it really chemically changed my hair at the roots - so much flatter than they were before. I'm only taking off one star bc that may be more of a reflection on the blowout treatment itself than the salon, but well... that's what I got done at the salon. I saved some serious time initially on blow drying etc but have more than lost that time since the treatment because I have to wash my hair every day now or it gets way too flat. I read a very good Yelp review of David at Bellini a few years ago when I was searching for a stylist who could successfully create platinum blond coloring. David has been cutting and coloring my hair since then , and I could not be happier. I get the super short cut I like and the color is great. David, along with the rest of the staff at Bellini, makes you feel welcome as soon as you walk through the door. Many of the stylists have loyal clients who have been going to this salon for years. It is easy to see why. The environment is clean, friendly and calm, the stylists are trained in state of the art techniques, and the cost of services reasonable. read more

I have been going to Bellini since it opened and have been having my hair cut and styled by Duane Dolbow for well over a decade. I love my cuts, but it is Duane's color expertise that really blows me away. Every time I watch my hair drying, I am amazed to see the beautiful and natural looking color emerge. Duane subtly changes the colors he uses as the seasons evolve. And he's always game to spice it up if I want. Also, Nile and Benita, who wash hair there, make every haircut a magical experience ... almost as good as any professional massage I've ever gotten. I had scheduled to have my bridal makeup done here and then had to cancel the following week (this was four months before the wedding). I was told when I cancelled that my $200 deposit was non-refundable. This wasn't posted in their salon nor was it communicated to me in any way when I made the deposit. The Manager kept saying that she would call me back and never did. This went on for weeks before they agreed to put the deposit towards my bridal hairstylist. She's now cancelled on me and once again I'm fighting to get my deposit back! This is horrible customer service! If they had given my deposit back in the beginning, I may have used their services again. Instead, they decided $200 was worth more than a satisfied customer. read more

I'm very happy with my experience at Bellini, and I love my haircut! The staff is friendly, and the salon is comfortable and attractive. Kathy Gray cut my hair, and she spent a lot of time asking me what I liked and didn't like about my hair, and she was careful to explain her suggestions and make sure I was OK with them before she did it. It was the best haircut I've had since moving to Vienna a few years ago. It really suits my face and will be simple to take care of.
