For those not used to lake flies, beware. Just turn off your lights that you don't want them to be attacked to. This is a typical KOA site , meaning the sites are close together. But, given the back-in site, the closeness didn't matter. This KOA does not have a pool, so jump in the sound.

We loved how we weren't stacked on top of another camper and had our own little space. The two beaches are beautiful to watch the sunsets and collect beach glass. I also enjoyed taking my two boys outside. The people here are friendly from the staff to the campers. They are always willing to help and answer any questions. I really met some awesome people here. They do have a bath house and a playground. Other amenities included a basketball court, volleyball court, camp store, and they also accept all your mail & packages. The playground was sorta run down and I wished so badly it was in better shape for my two little boys. I also think a laundry facility would be a big help with the full timers. I can tell these owners care about their property. They keep up with maintenance and are trying to make the campground look nicer! Overall, would definitely recommend! Going to miss this place!

The pros: secluded spot at the end of the road, small beach area to swim & fish, trash cans to dispose of waste. There was a playground & basketball court towards the store (both were a little worn, but my son enjoyed them regardless. Balls & chalk were provided which was awesome) Cons: We did have a few people venture down to our campsite at various times which was kind of odd. Not sure how the staff could improve on that as most people seemed to just be exploring the property. I will say the people that did venture down during the day were kind, and respectful, but one was at 10pm, which startled us a little. Overall we will be coming back, probably with a few other "overland" friends. The "Primitive Spot A" was a gem, my son had a blast in the water. If you're looking for an "off-grid" experience around the Tidewater area, this is the place! Not sure about their other sites, but book Site A!

The pictures do not do this place justice! We stayed in a cottage near the beach and it was perfect. The cottages were very clean and not too close together (where we were anyway.) We took full advantage of the pool and the river also, as it was probably the hottest weekend of the summer! All of the staff were awesome and super accommodating. The place was almost totally booked up and yet sooo quiet at night, you'd never have believed it. The other campers were all respectful and friendly. There were a lot of activities to do for the kids which was really cool. We got up early on checkout day to find what we thought would be the perfect spot for our next trip in a few weeks and booked it before we even checked out. Soo happy to have stumbled upon this great spot!!!

My family and I stayed here for four days in mid August in our travel trailer. It is a great…read morelocation! The prices are incredible. It's convenient to everything in Virginia Beach. The campsites are clean and well-kept and are located right next to the beach. As a previous person noted, you must be affiliated with the DoD for access to the Dam Neck Annex - the Navy base the campground is located on. I have two critiques that prevent me from a five-star review. The first is that the campsites are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. We made our reservations in January for our August trip based on recommendations from friends and knowing the campground would fill up quickly. When we arrived on Tuesday afternoon at 2pm, after driving seven hours to get there, the only spots remaining were the two "shared" sites. Each was already half occupied by someone we didn't know. The space between the sites is no more than what you'd get in a parking lot (you share the same concrete pad). A reservation system that allowed you to reserve specific sites would fix this. The second critique is that there seems to be a lot of long-term campers. Not seasonal, but long term. These people have their RVs or travel trailers essentially parked in prime spots and they weren't there, at least during our visit. I get it it. If they pay, they get to stay. Perhaps, though, the number of those campers should be limited to allow families on vacation more opportunities to take advantage of the campground. Overall, though, it's a good campground. We may be back in the future. Knowing what I know now, though, we'll use a different strategy when we arrive.

We typically have events with live music a couple times a week, as well as food trucks (but only during summer to my knowledge). There are less families than any other group of people but we still enjoy having a home-away-from-home. The routine is 14 days booked (with a minimal daily fee) and 7 days off-site (some storage available on site). Bathhouses, pavilion, overflow parking, clubhouse and some weekly events (during the summer) included. Laundry room available but we rarely use it. Dogs allowed with proper vaccines and license. There is a small dog park on site. We really enjoy the two pools (one with kiddie area and lifeguards).

Those 15 sites are just feet away from that water and have idyllic views. There is a boardwalk that runs out toward the ocean and along the "pond". There is catch and release fishing. This is a simple place in a great location. Just down the road is the marina where you can charter a fishing expedition or have a great seafood dinner. Look up their site for details.
