We saw about 10 horses, including a family group, and appreciated the opportunity to see them. The problem was the guide, who turned what should have been an exciting wildlife experience into an unpleasant one. From the start, he told us he was tired because he had already done four tours that day and that he would "try." Unfortunately, that lack of enthusiasm was evident throughout the entire tour. Instead of feeling like welcomed guests, we felt like an obligation. The way he interacted with people was especially disappointing. He belittled another guest, spoke to me in a condescending manner when I briefly used bug spray on my neck, and created an atmosphere that felt judgmental rather than educational. Most troubling were his comments dismissing conservation efforts for the very wildlife this tour is built around. A guide leading visitors to see Corolla's wild horses should understand and respect the work that protects these animals and their habitat. This was not a case of unrealistic expectations about wildlife. It was a case of poor guiding, poor communication, and a lack of respect for guests. The horses were beautiful. Unfortunately, the guide made the experience one we will not remember fondly.

Reservations are necessary as even in November I could not believe how many people were taking this tour. The tour starts at there office approx. 15 minutes away from where horses roam. The hummer vehicles are operated with diesel engines which are loud making conversation a little trying. The driver uses a mick and two speakers located at front of vehicle. People in back rows had a very difficult time hearing driver. Tour begins with a drive on beach to arrive in dunes where horses are most likely found. This company has many vehicles running at same time and drivers communicate with each other when horses are located. Very interesting to see that these animals live amongst private home properties in the sand dune area. The drive can be a little bumpy at times as paths are all natural, no paved roads. After taking this tour I am so glad we did not attempt this on our own. These horses roam a large area and are hidden by dunes, brush and buildings. Besides the fact you need a vehicle to traverse loose sand. If your interested seeing wild horses in a natural environment this tour is worth your time and money. I do say that a better sound system in vehicles would enhance experience.

I stayed at The Chesapeake with my work and their friends for a week getaway…read more This house is on the 4x4 beach and requires you to deflate your tires on a 4x4 vehicle (tons of fun)! Up one arrival, you notice the jaw dropping size of this rental/wedding venue! When you enter the house, you are quickly amazed by the giant double sided bar with a shuffleboard, fooseball table, and an electronic darts game. On one side of the room, there is a bathroom with three sinks and three individual stalls. Next to that, there is a makeshift gym (bring your own equipment). On the other side of the bar, there is an aquarium that looks into the theater with wall to wall surround sound. This floor connects you to the back patio/pool area. On the second floor, there is a chef's kitchen, a smaller kitchen, ginormous dining area, two patios, and a sitting room with a fire place. The third floor is the private honeymoon suite with a patio. This house has two wings with a first and second floor. All floors have a washer and dryer (4 washers and 4 dryers in the house total). There are 24 bedrooms in all and each bedroom had a full size bath, king sized bed, and a private patio overlooking the pool. Each wing has a bunk bed room sleeping 6 in each room. The back patio has two bars, two grills, two hot tubs, PLENTY of seating and lounge chairs, a ping pong table, a gated pool (about 5ft deep), and a large shaded area to host a wedding. This house is MASSIVE and apparently popular in the Outer Banks. Many of the 4x4 tours were stopping to talk about this house. This house is just a small walk away from the beach. This house includes almost everything you need. It has clean linens, towels, pillows, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. It also has a full sized kitchen with 3 coffee makers, 4 dishwashers, tons of plates and silverware, pots/pans...it's fully stocked. All you need is food, body wash, laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent, paper towels, and maybe extra toilet paper as there is only one roll per room (though I did give everyone the idea to take some from the rooms that weren't being used). But that's not all! Don't no need to bring ice because there are a whopping 4 ice makers in the house as well as three refrigerators and two freezers. I can go on and on about how amazing this house is but I'll let the photos do the talking. And yes, there are wild horses in the beach!! It's a wonderful house if you can afford the whopping $29k for the week. Luckily, I was here for work and got to enjoy the beauty without spending a penny.

The trip is on North Carolina as their taxes pay for the service. From what I could tell it runs hourly, so they have two boats. There is a restroom and small shelter on the Currituck side. You will need to show ID prior to boarding. The boat is pretty bare bones and holds around a dozen cars. There are two sides with seating that is climate controlled with vending machines. You can go partial top deck for a better view. If you notice a school bus on the pic it may seem out of place. The Knott's Island kids in MS & HS take it everyday to Currituck. If your looking for an adventure this may be your ticket. However, keep in mind the landing points because it may be an hour, or more out of your way if your destination is Virginia Beach to the East in Town Center.

Originally built in 1901 and opened in 1902, the station was part of a national network designed to monitor and report weather conditions in regions vulnerable to severe storms and maritime hazards. Strategically located where the Gulf Stream and Labrador Current collide, Cape Hatteras was a critical site for forecasting and maritime safety. What makes this station especially compelling is its little-known connection to one of history's most infamous maritime disasters--the sinking of the RMS Titanic. At 11:25 p.m. Hatteras time on the evening of April 14, 1912, station operators Richard Dailey and Horace Gaskins got the Titanic's distress message, which read, "CQD: Have Struck Iceberg." A young David Sarnoff, who would go on to become president of RCA, received this communication, which was transmitted just minutes before the ship's final plunge, after it was forwarded to the New York Station. Sarnoff thought the Titanic was unsinkable at the time, so he brushed the warning aside as a prank. The telegram's transmission from the Hatteras station adds a melancholy element to the building's past, and it continues to stand as a disturbing reminder of squandered opportunities and poor judgment. We decided to shift to a pet friendly house this past week so it wasn't a three-peat . However he's still a puppy and was way too interested in chasing cats, and this one particular fox. So we just booked for a September stay in 2015, without Smuckers. I can't say enough good things about this place, and its owner. In all the years I've been down there I have never had the owner pay a visit on day one, which by itself says a lot, but there was also a gift bag. I try not to forget anything, but inevitably I'll forget one of the following; garbage bags, paper towels, pin for an air pump, batteries, etc. In addition to all the goodies one might forget, there was also a bottle of wine. Who does this? What an amazing gesture. With that said, even without the owner's kind actions, the house in and of itself is great. I don't know what their repeat rate is, but it has to be high. This house is perfectly located in Corolla, close to both Harris Teeter (which if you are still one of those people going to Food Lion, stop it, just stop it right now) and Tim Buck II. I'm not going to sit here and detail the house out, check out the site and trust me that it's as advertised. I will say that you should note that the pool is heated at no additional cost; this is usually not the case. The weather back in 2013 was amazing. High 70's the first few days and low 80's the rest of the week. And no wind! My better half is what made this trip the best one I'd ever had in the time I'd been going. Every morning you make yourself some breakfast, a bloody mary, and you watch the sun go up on the dune deck. Then you set up your beach spot. Head back inside to shower up, fix up another bloody mary and you walk along the beach (3 miles, 5 miles,7,8,9,11 - a little sore after the last couple). Come back and jump in the heated pool, out the beach, make some sandwiches, back out to the beach, then back into the pool (Chicken Balls!). Before you know it, it's 5PM and time to shower up and get ready for dinner. And that's every day - life is good. If you've narrowed it down and Page's Place is a finalist, or if you're just on the fence about it, get off the fence and jump in the pool. You will not be disappointed.

William, the person who delivered the golf cart, was very nice. He explained all the working features of the golf cart, the Bluetooth stereo system, safety and rules.
