I have not physically met Richard Bell (as weird as that sounds) since I live in California. HOWEVER, he had a glowing recommendation from a close friend and my phone calls with him made me confident he was trustworthy. I contracted him to re-roof my mother's house. I then had him repaint the house's exterior. Labor and materials for both jobs were above the lower quartile five figures ($$,$$$) Communication - First off, unlike four other Hilo contractors who never returned my calls or ignored me after initial conversations, Richard actually called me back. That's a huge green flag! Richard was conscientious in keeping me in the loop as to when he was starting, progress he was making, and when he would complete the projects. He sent me videos as job updates. There was a steady stream of texts and videos. Timeliness - Richard started and completed the projects within the timeframe he committed to. He was there with his crew when they were scheduled, and worked full days. Value & Budget - Richard's quote for the roofing and painting jobs were very reasonable. Much appreciated was the fact there were no additional surprise charges. Conscientious, trustworthy, affordable, communicative, competent - Richard and his crew check off all the right boxes. Richard and crew did an AMAZING job in everything that was asked of them! We live in Volcano Village, HI and it's tough trying to get folks to come out there. We called just about everyone on our list of those that had at least an average rating of 4.0. Of course there were a few that called or texted back and then they went silent. Richard responded quickly and was very accommodating in fitting us in his busy schedule. We used his services to clean up the yard, pressure wash the roof and gutters, and trim some trees touching the roof. Job was done quickly and cost was very reasonable.
