The selection is actually pretty good and prices are decent. I don't think they have any idea about beer, they really just sell it. A local brewery's bottle of a bourbon barrel beer is priced at $5, and in the brewery it is $10. The liquor stock is good unless you want something specific. We called ahead earlier in the day, wanting a specific bourbon. Three bottles. The person on the phone said it is one of their stock items and they should have it in stock. (He did not look to confirm). We went out of our way and rushed our activity to get to the store before they closed. They did NOT have the bourbon in stock and there was not even a sticker for it to go on the shelf. Not a happy customer!! read more

I am going to keep this one fairly short and sweet. Very cool place with a decent selection of craft beers. I stopped in here on my way back home to Detroit and talked with who I believe to be one of the owners for a good 15 minutes about different craft beers and breweries that we liked. Prices were fairly comparable with places around the Metro Detroit area too. I was jealous of him for being able to get his hands on Three Floyd's relatively easily (seriously, start distributing to the Mitten guys!) while he was jealous of me for being from Michigan and having such a vast array of great breweries at my disposal. Can't blame him there. Plus he lives in Ohio, the Armpit of America, so that must suck. HA! Seriously though, I loathe Ohio (mainly because it is God awful to drive through, plus the whole sports rivalry thing), but this guy and this place are cool in my book. read more

This place sports an excellent beer selection. I'm a transplant to the Dayton area from Michigan and many of my favorites from the North aren't readily available anywhere else in Dayton (for a reasonable price). The staff is generally helpful and knowledgable. The liquor section is quite decent. Be advised, they only take cash for liquor, but their prices seem to be slightly lower than I've found anywhere else. Though there are some spirits that are not available here (I was looking for Old Raj gin, for example), the staff expressed a willingness to order anything not in stock. read more

This deserves 5 plus plus stars if you're a beer lover. I found limited bottles for all craft breweries including Stone, Dogfish Head, Jolly Pumpkin, Tröegs, Flying Dog... on and on and on. This place is a mini-mecca for those who love great beers. If you're even passing through on US 75 or US 70, take the short detour and check this place out. Service was excellent. Visiting the Dayton Ohio area for a conference, and wanted to find some decent beer. Belmont party store is the most incredible beer store I've ever been to. Location is easy to get to, plenty of parking and the staff are friendly and very knowledgeable. Excellent selection of imported beers, domestic craft beers -absolutely every style and flavor profile you can imagine. Great selection of domestic macro brews, good wine and liquor selection. The big draw is the amazing variety of beers, and the price point is reasonable. I was in the area to attend a conference at Wright Patterson AFB, and I look forward to returning to the area, if for no other reason than to shop at this amazing store. As others say, great beer selection. Pick out singles to try out without buying the 6 pack. Keep in mind most of it is warm. Today picked up a 6 pack priced at $9.99 on the shelf. Staff seemed to struggle a bit ringing it up. When I was told it was $11.99 I mentioned the shelf tag. She tried to prove it to me by turning the screen around to show me the price. I explained to her that didn't matter. She made it clear that I was going to pay the higher price. I told her that's how you lose customers. She blamed it on the owner. Never been to a place that did not honor shelf prices. If Arrow Wine and Kroger's can do it so can you. read more

This place is an incredible find! I couldn't believe the beer selection, and has a good wine and liquor selection, including one of my favorite rums from Puerto Rico. Staff is always very nice and helpful. As others have mentioned, the only drawback is that they only accept cash for any liquor purchase. This is a glorious liquor store, hands down. It's located at the suburb part of Dayton, a short drive from downtown. Astonishing selection of beers, and more beers. Being from the left coast I was amazed by the exotic selections of the east coast and midwest. Limited editions and singles 12 oz ran amok among the aisles. I decided to take a slight detour on my way back from Washington Courthouse and hit up the Belmont Party Supply. It was a well worth it diversion I was mainly looking to pick up some brewers that were not available in Indiana. I was not disappointed. The staff, was polite and helpful. They had a generous portion of wine and liquor and a great beer selection, My main reason for stopping was for Great Lakes Beers. I realize I could have gotten those in many places in Ohio, but the staff talked about the various differences and recommended some other beers on hand that were similar in style or taste. Soo... here's the deal. Their beer selection? OK...whatever...didn't look much at it. Their liquor selection...it was ok. Doesn't earn them one star. What does earn them one star is forcing you to pay cash for liquor. You have the choice of going to their atm if you have no cash or leaving. The "it's only got a $1 fee" line is an insult. This is purely customer service related as their selection remains awesome. Pretty much the only thing to say is that they've clearly lowered their hiring standards as their staff are not as helpful or friendly as they've been in the past. I was there recently and purchased a bottle of wine and a few single 500ml beers. After paying, the guy says "have a good one," turns around and starts to walk away. I ask if he could give me a bag, and he grudgingly grabs a few small paper bags, bags each item, and then walks away. You wouldn't know it from the outside but this is a really great beer store. I'm only in Dayton a few days for work and am not checking any bags so I specifically avoided spending a ton of time browsing the shelves lest I walk out with more than I could drink while here, but from what I saw of the shelves it looked like a very well-stocked store with a very diverse selection (on my way in I saw a couple of Samichlaus beers I've never seen before, to name just one example). Instead I asked the guy working the store for advice on local beers and he gave me some really great recommendations, including Java Man Cometh from The Dayton Beer Company and some Platform sour beers--Basic Beach and Orange Blossom were good, and Tang Life was GREAT. I'm really happy I looked up beer stores on Google instead of resigning myself to what I could find at the local grocery stores. I got some really great local beers at a good price. And it seemed like pretty much everything was available as a single, which I always love but in this instance I was doubly appreciate of given my short stay in Dayton given it let me maximize the variety of my haul. I'd be here all the time if I lived anywhere remotely near Dayton; between the variety and the singles policy I'd say it easily outclasses a lot of the stores back in Santa Monica. read more

Home to 5 million beers and counting, or something like that. Belmont party supply is tucked in small shopping center just outside the reach of the University of Dayton Student who is looking for any type of beer that doesn't have the word "lite" at the end. This is a shame, because most students are simply going to run to arrow wine if they want to pick up some beer, or liquor that they can't get at the local gas station or Walmart. I am not knocking on Arrow wine here, which also has a good selection, and good prices Belmont has hands down the best selection in the area, if not the entire south west Ohio region. At first glance you might call me insane because from the outside, it looks like a junky, run down location that doesn't have anything other then a few luke warm boxes of Sam Adams in stock. I couldn't be father from the truth. Belmont has nearly every craft, and micro brewery that you've heard of, and many that you haven't. I like to go and just walk around the place just to get a feel of what I might like to enjoy later. They have a wide selection of beer cold, and at room temperature. You can buy the bottles in the standard, 4, 6,and cases but they also sell every beer individually so that you mix and match them. The employees, seem to have a love for fine beer as well, because they are always willing to go the extra distance to make sure your needs are met. My only complaint is that there is not really any order of organization that I can tell, so it might be hard to find the specific brewery that you are looking for, but maybe thats intentional to expose you to some beer's you've never heard of. BPS even has the hard to find brews that are not traditionally available in this area, so if you have a brewery that you can never track down, they'll most likely have it. Well worth the drive from farther away When a friend, or my brother who is a beer nut is coming to town this is the first place that I go, to pick up something that they would enjoy. As far as I am concerned Belmont is the craft beer mecca of the Dayton area. They will have what you are looking for, and if they don't, they'll get it for you. The beer selection is off the charts and on this trip I made my own pick six with a nice variety of IPA, Imperial IPA, brown ales, stouts, and black lagers. Also picked up a 4-pack of G'Knight by Oskar Blues Brewery and a sixer of Black Ragah by The Brew Kettle. All good stuff from my favorite proprietors of tasty beverages. read more

AMAZING beer selection! I couldn't even believe I was in Dayton, as everywhere else I've tried to buy craft beer has been disastrous. You can even buy bottles individually to try a new kind instead of investing in a whole 6-pack of some microbrew you have never had only to find you didn't like it. I'm coming from Chicago, which had great liquor stores with good beer selections, but this place tops all those. In the store was a sheet printed out listing the top beer stores (by choice of selection) and this place was number 11 in the whole country! The only place in Ohio on the list even. I love this place. But I don't understand their management style. I am an avid Victory Hop Devil fan. And Three out of 4 times I stopped in they were out of stock. Over the last few months it seems that others have obtained the necessary taste to enjoy VHD. So I decided to call the individual that orders beer. She hemmed and hawed, and finally guessed she could double the order. She said deliveries are made on Tuesdays. When I went there Tuesday, 12, June, 2012, there were 2 6-packs. I bought them both! If they normally order 2 cases, and she said she would double the order. How could there only be 2 6-packs? I can understand antiquated software that may not offer sales tracking or projecting sales and inventory turnover rates. But is it really that tough? I spend a couple hundred bucks a month on the craft beer I like. Guess I will have to consider going elsewhere. There are a few other places get VHD. read more

They have one of the best beer selection around the Dayton area. If your looking for a specific micro-brew they have it. Always have something new to try. Parking is a bit of a trick on a busy road and not many parking spots. If you stay away from rush hour, not too bad. read more

I know it looks like a ghetto carry-out, but Belmont has one of THE greatest beer selections in all of Dayton. They even have a full assortment of brewing supplies in the rear. However, be forewarned that the store is oddly split in two. One side is beer and wine, the other side is liquor. The liquor side, and the reason truly escapes me, is cash only. Well, they certainly have a good selection of beers. But their customer service sucks. I love dark beers and had a list of beers I was looking for...did anyone help at all in any way? Nope. The workers consist of young, pimply males without manners who dress like they came from some garbage closet. Even Goodwill would be high class. I prefer the more mature type with some semblance of brightness and friendliness. I've been to many specialty beer places across the US and this one is definitely on the low end, if not THE low end inside and out. And, their prices reflect a "better" place--not justified in my opinion. Places like this need to understand that what they lack in luster, they must make up for in customer service. The only reason they received 1 star was for selection, nothing more. Luckily, they are not the only game in town. Absolutely fantastic beer selection. If you're not familiar with the place, be sure you go all the way to the back where they sell the individual bottles of microbrew, and don't be waylaid by the chilled six-packs you'll pass on the way. There were also some decent wines in there. The place is convenient to all the other necessary vices of life such as a Dairy Queen, a tobacco shop and a gun store :) The clerk was really helpful about wrapping up or boxing my twelve or so individual micro-bottles and didn't seem put out about doing it at all, so I get the impression that they have a pretty good beer geek clientele. Minus a star for the stupid setup with the liquor being in a separate "store" next door and being cash only. I would have liked to get some whiskey too, but by the time I figured out what the deal was I was already at the beer register with a line behind me. I imagine there's some silly regulatory reason for doing it that way but as someone who likes her whiskey and beer together, I just found it annoying. read more
