I have been a satisfied customer of Below H20 for the last 10 years. I was also certified through PADI through Below H20. The owner, Dave Rautio is a nice guy. He is very knowledgeable and helpful. Every year he organizes a group trip to Little Cayman and Cayman Brac at Reef Divers Resort. This is a very nice dive resort that has valet diving. The dive boats are nice and staff there promote safe diving. I have gone to Cayman many times with Dave on this trip and met a lot of nice friendly people. read more

I took a refresher course this morning. The owner was very friendly and helpful. It has been a long time since I last dove. There were 2 other people in my class. The instructor (I think he was the owner) walked us slowly through the whole process. He answered all our questions. The facilities were clean. It was a complete refresher course without missing anything. The products in stock were substantial. I needed a new mask and snorkel. I was amazed that when he saw my goggles were not good, he just said that I should replace them. Not once did he mention buying from them. I did check prices on the internet. I could not find a lower price for the mask and snorkel. Looking forward to scuba diving, again. read more

First, the address is no longer correct. About 2 months ago, they moved to Naperville (554 S Route 59, Naperville, IL). It's in the Naper West Plaza by Plato's Closet and Barrett's Home Theater). This is based on my initial visit. I decided to visit this place since (for some time) I have planned to get my open water diving certification. So I walk in the place and notice that it was VERY well laid out. Suits had their space, masks, snorkels, fins, videos, boots, etc are all easy to find. I decided to make some small talk with the guy at the counter (I believe his name was Greg) and he couldn't have been nicer. Now I have some working knowledge of the Scuba world. I was told about the different packages as I gave each scenario. You can select an all inclusive package (which includes class materials, pool & open water) or a referral package (class and pool only if you decide to do the open water part while on vacation; they will refer you to a outfit where you can go). No matter the route you choose, I was informed all I needed were a mask, fin and snorkel for the pool portion. Whatever questions I had, I got answers. No "know it all" arrogance like other places. I even asked to see the training tub they have. The place is spotless. He told me what brands they carry and why (the companies that back up their products). I think that it's safe to say that if Russell Crowe and the cast of Superman 3 can be certified by this team, I think it's safe for me. This place is also PADI 5 Star rated (which is why I decided to come here). Based on my initial impression, I believe you're in safe hands here should you got the Scuba route. This might is the best Scuba shop I've visited in the west burbs (easily one of the best for certain). read more

If you live in Naperville, you will notice that there is a serious lack of good dive shops. I normally go all the way out to Sea Lions, but I just need lights and I didn't feel like going far. Anyways, this place has a good selection! Surprisingly. They have 3 to 7mm wet suits, skins, good selection on fins/masks. They don't have a lot of selection in terms of photography gear. I didn't see any strobes or mounts or anything like that. But basic gear, they've got you covered. Note: it's in a strip mall next to a Subway -- it will NOT say Below H2O on the sign, just a generic "scuba" sign. read more

Great people. Great instruction. Planning on returning. Got the "Discovery" for $50 and had a fun hour learning basics and some intermediate skills. The pool was maintained and very clean. The shopfront, classroom area, and changing rooms were clean and decorative. Awesome place to try scuba or get certified. read more

My son and I were all set for a big scuba trip. We bought our gear from H2O. We had training at H2O. We then scheduled and paid for a refresher course prior to our trip. My son saw a doctor. He was diagnosed with a heart condition. The cardiologist advised us not to go SCUBA diving. I called H2O to cancel the refresher course. I explained the medical condition. They refused to give us a refund. This is very poor business and lacks compassion. I would recommend that you go to Dive Right In in plainfield Illinois instead. read more

The store is organized. Knowledgeable staff: I was looking for ear plugs as I got water in my ears which is causing pressure, heaviness in the head,etc. After a couple questions from the store staff, I was recommended with a set of ear plugs and "ear drops for watersports". The ear drops worked like a charm! I feel so much better now! read more

My fiance and I wanted to get scuba certified for our honeymoon. We were really limited on time and Dave was very flexible and fit us in. We had 3 different dive instructors throughout the process and all of them were awesome! They were patient, flexible, and fun. very nice store, pretty good customer service and good selection. BUT they are very expensive. They sell the stuff at FULL MSRP or higher. I bought a pair of water boots at $48 from there. Scuba.com sell it for $31.95, listed retail price $46.95. I try to support local stores but with this kind of price difference make it hard. No refund either. read more

Three months ago I bought wet suit and boots, returned within few days later, still waiting for refund.

DO NOT USE THIS DIVE SHOP!!! I was getting scuba certified last year and this was the closest dive shop to my house. First of all the owner is so rude and pushy! I've never encountered such poor customer service in my life. His prices for his gear on the website are completely different from his in-store prices, the gear in the store is marked up at least 50% and its false advertising. He pushed me into purchasing the necessary gear and told me he was giving me a "break" for almost $300. He was so easy going about getting me in asap for a class and pool dive, but once I declined the gear from his store his story completely changed and he made it almost impossible to get into any of his classes. I ended up getting the whole set for $60 and it was the same brand as in his store-Aqua Lung. Also my buddy and his wife went in for certification and his wife realized she can't do it during the first pool dive and the owner refused him a refund and made him use the money for in store credit!! It's ridiculous how this guy treats people and I expect his business won't be around much longer...beware you've been warned!! read more
