I would rate this zero stars if I could. A few years ago, I had an IUD put in by this clinic. Even…read morethough I had a consultation to ask questions, I was never informed about the extreme pain involved in the procedure. Because of this, I didn't take any pain medication. The staff asked if I had any questions, but as someone getting on birth control for the first time, I didn't even know what to ask. That same night, I played 3 hours of national-level volleyball--something that could have been detrimental to my health. I never considered returning to the clinic until recently, when I experienced severe, 10/10 razor-blade-like pain in my pelvic area for days. I went to urgent care, then the ER, where I was told I had an ovarian cyst, BV, and fluid around my IUD, though the IUD was still in place. The ER instructed me to see a gynecologist and have another ultrasound as soon as possible, since it was outside their specialty. I scheduled an appointment with Peninsula Women's Care for the next day. At first, the nurse practitioners were kind as I explained my situation, and one commented that the fluid was most likely blood. I got undressed and sat on the table for 30 minutes until Kelcey St. Amand, MSN, CNM, came in. She immediately assumed I was there to have my IUD removed--which was not the case--and refused to look at my ER records. I explained that I came per the ER's instructions to check my ovarian cyst and discuss the possibility of removing the IUD, though my main concern was the extreme pain. She dismissed my concerns and said, "Well, cysts go away on their own, but we can remove your IUD." When I asked about an ultrasound, she said it would take 8 weeks to get an appointment with an ultrasound tech. I asked for a refund because I wasn't comfortable having my IUD removed and felt the appointment was a waste, especially since no exam was done as a precautionary measure. Kelcey rudely told me I could not get a refund, and when I asked why, she said it was because I "showed up for my appointment." I told her I had scheduled an appointment for an ultrasound, and she said I could speak to a manager. Tiffani Nelson (practice administrator) came in, tried to reassure me, and said Kelcey wouldn't suggest removing my IUD if it wasn't safe. At this point, I was extremely upset and holding back tears of frustration and disappointment after hoping for real help with my pain. I asked Kelcey if she could give me pain meds, and she prescribed the exact same anti-inflammatories the ER had already given me. I ultimately decided to have the IUD removed, and since then, I haven't had any pain--but it was clear the staff didn't understand why I was there or what medications I was already taking. After the removal, Kelcey simply asked, "Do you have any questions?" instead of explaining the healing process. I had to call urgent care later to get pain medication because no one at the clinic would prescribe anything stronger. Tiffani did schedule an ultrasound for two weeks later, but I was returning to school. If the pain had continued, I would have gone back to the ER for immediate care. I will absolutely never return. I'm extremely upset that a WOMEN'S CLINIC feels so rushed and invalidating. To make matters worse, my school gynecologist told me today never to go back because of malpractice. She shook her head when I explained how little I was told about the IUD insertion.

Who cares if I'm asking to get the test done. I'm paying for the test.. The doctor was ok during the visit but I think they have too many patients and the office isn't big enough. The receptionist that checked me in was very rude and unfriendly.

I've been going to this location for many years, and the service used to be excellent. However,…read moresince mid-2023, it has significantly declined--from the nurses to the nurse practitioners to the doctors. They now recommend too many unnecessary tests and biopsies that cost thousands of dollars and go straight to the deductible. This has left me feeling frustrated, untrusting, and disappointed. I no longer have a reliable OB-GYN I can turn to, someone who knows my history and offers thoughtful care before jumping to procedures. Being in my mid-60s, I know I need good care, but sadly, I won't find it at this practice. To make matters worse, most women's health practices in Tidewater have merged into one physician group. Their approach seems clear: more tests, more procedures, and less personalized care. Trust your gut feeling - take care and be aware of what I shared.

They don't care to tailor the procedures for each patient and don't ask enough questions about what your needs are for the visit. No private area with no door is where they ask " how many sexual partners do you have". Unreal. I should have got up and demanded a room with a door for this intake. Who designed this office? Providers aren't horrible but the staff is under educated and cannot discuss basic questions without help. Do not recommend.

The midwife walks around barefoot and recommends that pregnant women drink gallons and gallons of unpasteurized cows milk which everybody know is clinically dangerous. It can lead to serious foodborne illnesses due to dangerous bacteria, including Salmonella, E. coli, Listeria, and Campylobacter. Bird flu can even lurk in it. This midwife seemed not care about pregnant people's personal privacy and lets her student-midwives cross examine you like detectives whether you like it or not you're stuck. This midwife treated me in a condescending manner and was very dismissive of my input. I have met narcissists who have behaved similarly in the past. After the experience I was shocked, appalled, disappointed, confused, and completely felt bamboozled. All in all I would say if you care about your life, STEER VERY CLEAR of this place.
