Then suddenly down a short hallway we could see a beautiful space with amazing views of the Thames and central London. We were quickly greeted by the hostess and she offered to store items in the cloakroom. Once we got our cloakroom ticket we were off to a lovely table on the windows. Our server quickly greeted us and brought us waters. When the rest of our party arrived we were offered drinks and we ordered a round of espresso martinis with tequila instead of vodka. They were very well made and super delicious. The did offer a set menu with two or three course options but we ordered off the standard menu. Food was served quickly and was well prepared. Everyone enjoyed their selection. This is a great place for a business lunch or would be a nice little date spot.

The decor and ambience is casual but at the same time elegant. There are elegant details everywhere starting at the entrance door and throughout the restaurant - the table top, the metal stamped H, I, D or E letters imbedded randomly on the edge of the tables, to the hearth where their pastries and bread are baked and showcased, and the opaque glassed kitchen above the main dining area where you see outlines of the staff working. Breakfast at HIDE was a pleasant and memorable dining experience. Will try dinner service next time. The champagne itself was delicious and our attentive waiter Alex kept our glasses refilled to the extent that it was rare to have an empty glass at the table. We all agreed that the sandwiches were a highlight of the food offerings. The thinly sliced bread meant that for example the salmon and cream cheese could each be separated in a club sandwich like manner without the result having too much bread in it. We all requested extra egg sandwiches - yes, egg! They were so yummy. If they can make an outstanding version of a simple egg sandwich, it speaks well of a talented chef. The ham and mustard sandwich had a tasty layer of coleslaw to counterbalance the mustard, of which I'm not a fan, but I really did like this version. The scones came with clotted cream, jam and also lemon curd if we wanted something a little different. The mini (French) desserts were also a treat. I cannot say enough good things about our afternoon tea here. The ambience is welcoming, modern and has a well thought out layout. The champagne is lovely, a pale straw colour and typical champagne biscuit like flavour. At around $70, while it was well cooked my sole had very little flavor and we didn't care for the terrine. The bread and butter were again, similar to Corrigan's Mayfair, the best part of the meal. At one point a waitress (not ours) walked up and said "may I" and without waiting for my response put their smudged cloth napkin I'd ignored in my lap, then walked away. I cringed and immediately pulled it off and put it back on the table. As someone with allergies, most fabric napkins aren't cleaned well enough for me to use. I'll allow it at extremely expensive restaurants with white glove service and a dress code, but Coq D'Argent isn't at that level, so I found it more rude and presumptuous than anything else. All in all, I can't recommend Coq D'Argent as the food just doesn't live up to it's price tag.

That being said, none of three meat dishes we ordered (lobster, trout, lamb) were seasoned well and all three were below lackluster. The lobster and bright veggie mix were poorly paired, and although the sauce made the trout more favorable, it was very bland, just like the lamb. In spite of the wonderful service and the outside seating, I just can't recommend Corrigan's Mayfair. All in all, if you're just stopping in for appetizers, drinks, and desserts you should be fine, but definitely do not eat dinner here.
