My recent exceptional experience with ATI (at 11112 Pacific AV, Tacoma) rivals the quality of one I had from another outfit recommended at the time by L & I. The staff here extremely competent, taking time to understand exactly what's going on and tailoring a program to correct the problem. They explain carefully what is to be done and why, and watch to see whether or not one's form needs correction. The therapy room is spacious and has a lot of program options that include some machine aids, such as bike, treadmill, elliptical, and cable pulls, as well as everything else imaginably useful for recovery exercises! I found them to be friendly and informative. Each therapist can step in and continue one's program as needed.

So back in mid 2023, I broke my foot... Like the devastating kind of break. I had three fractures…read moreand a torn ligament that resulted in a major surgery that required four screws be placed in my foot to stabilize it and pin the ligament while it healed... End to end, I spent the better part of seven months in a boot. It was pretty awful. After surgery, my orthopedic surgeon recommended physical therapy... He said that it definitely could help me and I should give it a shot, even though I was skeptical. It's important to note that I was over 300 pounds when I had my final surgery and I was in a very weird place where I had to exercise if I wanted to lose weight, but my injury was so grievous that anything more than a slow walk was excruciating the next day. Enter Nate at Anchor Physical Therapy... I had my initial intake with him and while I did try another therapist, they weren't as good as a fit, so I adjusted my schedule to make sure I was available when Nate was available, and I started showing up for his first appointment every Friday morning. I've been working with Nate for over a year and while weight loss was definitely not part of our goal setting together, it was part of my personal journey, and he contributed to this greatly. He gave me homework, and I did it... Ensuring that I was moving my body, stretching, and doing the little things that he asked me to do in order to get better. This is an essential part of the journey, doing the homework. I won't bore you with all of the myriad of details of my recovery, but suffice just to say that in the last year I have lost 90 pounds, and I have graduated from a hobble to training for a 5K, after being told that it was likely I would never run again. With help from Anchor Physical Therapy, I have overcome the odds and in spite of injury, osteoarthritis, and schedule challenges, I've come out on top. As far as details go, I would also like to add that the front desk staff and management is phenomenal. They were always really great about dealing with my insurance, which is Tricare and that can be challenging at times. The referrals didn't always come through the right way, or there was a hiccup, but they always made sure it got taken care of, and they communicated every step of the way. Big thanks to the whole anchor team at this location and especially Nate.

I have been impressed with her work ethic and attention to the front desk service she provides. I do not feel that it is always the training that clinic employees may receive but the want to go the extra mile with patients that makes them stand out. I have viewed the passion that Jane Line has for this facility and does a wonderful job for anyone coming through the door. In todays world customer service is becoming a thing of the past. There is proof in this facility that is definitely not the case. I am coming up on the end of this journey with Dr Smith and Puget Sound Orthopedics, but all things…read moreconsidered they have made it as good of an experience as a foot broken in 3 places with a full ligament tear could possibly be. Rewind back in June 2023 when the ER in Tacoma sent me home with a compression wrap and an ice pack and told me nothing major was wrong - then after night of excruciating pain my sister drove me an hour north to the Proliance Orthopedic Walk-in up in Tukwila (separate review - also a great experience, all things considered)... it was there they confirmed that there was at LEAST one break and wanted me to get an MRI as soon as possible, and once my MRI confirmed my triple-fracture and also identified the ligament tear I went looking for PSO. Look up a Lisfranc injury. It's usually sports, mine was just bad luck. I identified Dr Gavin Smith as an Orthopedic Podiatrist and Surgeon who seemed like a great fit. He took my case very seriously from the very start, they fit me in as quickly as possible, and once he got my MRI results he took the time to recommend both a surgical and non-surgical route for treatment - being clear the non-surgical did have a higher likelihood of issues from incorrect healing later on - but was genuine and clear that he was supportive of whichever route I chose. Once I chose surgical (which was 4 steel screws to be inserted into my Lisfranc region to stabilize and allow the injuries to heal properly for 12 weeks, then a final surgery to remove the screws with 4-6 weeks of additional recovery time). This sounded like torture but I was determined to see it through. I was right - it was sort of torture. There was a lot of pain and a lot of annoying times I couldn't do what I wanted to or I'd have to do the things a lot more slowly but I made it to my final surgery... now we are in the recovery window and I am 7 days post-op and starting to walk free of any aides and it's glorious. Yay! I can't wait to get my final sutures out and make my way back to full function - I am so grateful to Dr Gavin Smith. He has an excellent "bedside manner" - he is kind and personable but doesn't sugarcoat anything. He's incredibly knowledgeable and well-versed in his field and also super kind. I would recommend him in a heartbeat and if myself or any of my loved ones need an orthopedic podiatrist his office will be my first call. The staff here at PSO is also great - they run on time almost every time. I've only had one appointment where we ran late and they offered to reschedule me if I could not wait. The office is very clean, parking is readily available and free, and the check-in process is very smooth, especially if you check in ahead on your phone!

The last visit, the bp cuff went on over her clothes, fell down to her elbow, and he reported the "reading" as "pretty good." He probably would have killed her by now, if she wasn't as healthy as a horse. I only need him to write maintenance prescriptions for her. She's been on the same stuff for years (before she started with him). Don't go to him if you have serious issues.
