The woman who runs the store is Diana and she is amazing. She has the most unique items in her store from all over Maine and beyond. Lots of antiques and neat stuff for almost any room in your house. Make sure to inquire about the letter press she owns. She showed me pictures of the Gutenberg letter press she uses to make the beautiful cards and prints. Her skill is unmatched and eye for detail is unmatched OH... she bakes all kinds of yummy treats. My personal favorite is the ginger cookies..and the bread. She makes the best tasting organic items you'll ever find. If you are having a party she also says she does some catering events. She also has rail bikes for rent! You'll get to pedal bikes that run along the rail road tracks and it's a blast..and a work out. Kip is a great guy who works there and loves to chat and will help ya with the bikes. She sells some locally-made food products, but mostly she sells things I would buy if I had an inch of extra room: a heavy, elegant hand-crocheted tablecloth with deep fringe ($18.00), handsome pitchers from local potters (ok, I bought the one with the rabbits) and funny old toys and gadgets. I also passed up a child's quilt embroidered with nursery rhyme characters. if you need it, it's still there. There were pregnant women present at the event and this was just a travesty. Not to mention the gruff attitude some of the staff had upon arrival to this event. Sad it was but those there made the best of it and enjoyed the evening. As a recommendation partnership means ownership if you wanted more than one star then you should have addressed this immediately.

The room was large and the bathroom surprisingly spacious. Housekeeping did a great job. The hotel smelled and clocked clean throughout. The shower was new and featured a rain water type faucet. The blackout curtains did a decent job blocking light and we didn't hear any hallway or exterior noise. The bad: I'm very picky and candid but fair in grading experiences. The beds and pillows were hard as rocks. The mattress felt as though we were sleeping on plywood. The ventilation kept my wife up throughout the night. It would whine before starting and when the blower came on, it was very loud. If you are a light sleeper, don't go here for sleep. The light switches were no doubt wired by the lowest bidder. They didn't make sense and there was a certain combination needed to get the lights on. Overall: the hotel was very clean and deserving of an 8, but the terrible bedding and the jet engine turbine heating, brings this to a 6. Why? Because the core need that a hotel must meet is a good night's sleep. There was zero information in the room or on the website as to the checkout time. We looked everywhere in the room. The receptionist told us the hotel had room service, but again no information was located in the room. Suggestion to hotel: investing in new mattresses is a substantial investment. Consider foam toppers. Label the switches. A simple tasteful font at 12pt placed just below each switch is cheaper than an electrician. Place signage with checkout times, restaurant operation times, rooms service and other information in the rooms. Put menus in the rooms. A small surprise - no in room coffee pot. This should be a standard for a hotel.

We enjoyed a comfortable "suite " with a couch, luxurious bed, big screen tv, microwave and mini fridge. Breakfast was hearty and delicious, and we really loved the friendly conversation with Yolanda and Pat that accompanied the home style cooking. We met ahead of time and she was unbelievably helpful in not only planning how the photographs would go, but also the logistics of the proposal itself. I had planned on a beach proposal and I was able to give Julie a cooler with my now fiancée's favorite snacks and a bottle of champagne. Not only did Julie bring the cooler so that my fiancée had no idea, but she also brought a blanket for us! As much as I appreciated her being a great assistant in my proposal plans, it truly was her masterful photography skills that blew me away. Julie was able to capture our walk up the beach, the actual proposal, and then a number of photos afterwards. I'm not sure how, but Julie was able to get photographs of my fiancée and I on the beach in Saco on an August Saturday at noontime without anyone in the background! Not only are the photos amazing, Julie was the perfect mixture of allowing my fiancée and I to enjoy our moment while also capturing different photos and poses. I cannot recommend Julie enough!
