This is a review for the food and the view, can't speak to the Guest House itself.
Must say, there aren't too many options in Arrochar. You've got the fish n' chips down the road, the tea room, a couple of poor quality hotel restaurants, and the Village Inn. Oh the Village Inn. How much we wanted to go there, after seeing the signs saying that we were to be "warmly welcomed" and "still going strong". Unfortunately it's always fully booked and we are never the type of people to think ahead. So we took a walk, and gave the Bothy a try.
It's not much to look at on the inside. Casual lounge with a large distracting TV, but the view is brilliant. Straight onto Loch Long and a view up to the Cobbler (having just hiked it, we weren't sure we wanted to be reminded of the pain in our knees, but it's pretty to look at regardless)
The staff is all Scottish with a family feel, and delivered efficient and friendly service. The food is a cut above, if not quite at the "gastropub" level of quality. I had the rack of ribs, which was competently seasoned and well-cooked. My lady had the chicken curry, which she is still talking about a few weeks later - it was quite good. Other appetizing options that we spied on other tables included the mackerel and salmon.
Draft beers, comfy seats, casual atmosphere and good food. Isn't that what vacation is all about? read more
