In December 2022, I had a catastrophe with my 2013 BMW X3 in that the engine completely died in the middle of the road. I was mortified. I was also sick with a very bad cold, so my energy was so low, I depended on the Internet and several phone calls to find a repair shop near my home. After being disappointed with the repair shop at a local BMW dealership, I phoned Benchmark Motors and luckily, I spoke with Rob, the service manager who assured me they could fix my problem and who additionally gave me very solid advice about how to deal with the BMW Corporation. It has been a year now since Benchmark repaired my vehicle and to date, it is working flawlessly. I have nothing but praise for Rob whose manner has always been calm, reassuring and straightforward and for the mechanics, whom I don't know who have done an excellent job. There is NO auto repair shop like Benchmark. My family has been going to Benchmark literally since I was born. (33 years) And I am now a faithful customer, driving from Baltimore to Columbia for everything from a flat tire to replacing an alternator. Danny is amazing. He can explain to you what needs to be done in layman's terms so you feel confident you are receiving the best service. Their pricing on parts and labor CANNOT BE BEAT. Literally. Recently, they really outdid themselves with excellent customer service when my car broke down on my, and I had to have it towed to a local mechanic. I could call Benchmark, discuss with them what the shop in Baltimore suggested, and then make an informed decision on next steps. Turns out, the shop in Baltimore was out to screw me, and intentionally replaced my starter instead of alternator, so my car would break down on me AGAIN, and I would have to go back to them. They also told me I needed a new engine air filter and tie rods. Neither of which was true. My air filter had just been replaced, and Benchmark even sent me an image for proof. Lessons learned. A. Get yourself AAA, and get either the 100mi to package or unlimited tow package so you never have to settle for the nearest mechanic. B. Always stick with the shop that you know won't screw you. As of yet, Benchmark has not responded to this review, but the owner did complain to the former employee who referred me to him, who then complained to me. Another opportunity to gain future business went out the window. This is not good business practice. Leads are expensive. When someone refers a free lead to you, don't throw away potential business and complain to the person who gave you a free lead. I hope the owner can learn from this experience. We brought our vehicle in with a list of about 5 issues that we were having. Benchmark supposedly looked at every problem, but didn't resolve one issue. One particular issue we were having occurred every time the vehicle was driven, but Benchmark said that they couldn't replicate it. As soon as we picked up our vehicle the issue occurred within five minutes of driving. We also noted a large scratch on our drivers door. 500 dollars plus out of pocket later and NO resolution. My husband and I suspected what one of the problems was so we took our vehicle to have to have a diagnostic test, within seconds 2 error codes were retrieved from the memory. My husband bought $40 worth of parts and took 5 minutes of time to fix the issue. When we called to discuss this and the scratch we were treated in a very unprofessional manner.
